wolfgangbabad··on LLMs are eroding my software engineering career and I don't know what to do
In my opinion the LLMs in the "cloud" reached plateau. Still the same probabilistic hallucinations. No idea what they gobbled up. It's a non-reliable circus type of thing. In fact I more and more go directly to Wikipedia or Grokipedia (if you want to know about Odin etc). There is more and more guardrails and talkbacks. They try to make it more human which makes it even more unusable. My guess, more and more marketing people get involved and things turn to unusable shit. I am more optimistic about local llms in a few years where there won't be any guardrails and you will be able to tweak the model how you like and not some marketing specialist at OpenAI or Anthropic.

Next to Epstein.
wolfgangbabad··on AI will make formal verification go mainstream
Yeah, there were about 5 or 10 videos about this "complexity" and unpredictability of 3rd parties and wheels involved that AI doesn't control and even forget - small context window - in like past few weeks. I am sure you have seen at least one of them ;)

But it's true. AI is still super narrow and dumb. Don't understand basic prompts even.

Look at the computer games now - they still don't look real despite almost 30 years since Half-life 1 started the revolution - I would claim. Damn, I think I ran it on 166 Mhz computer on some lowest details even.

Yes, it's just better and better but still looking super uncanny - at least to me. And it's been basically 30 years of constant improvements. Heck, Roomba is going bankrupt.

I am not saying things don't improve but the hype and AI bubble is insane and the reality doesn't match the expectation and predictions at all.

wolfgangbabad··on Roomba maker goes bankrupt, Chinese owner emerges
The problem is that all are quite tall which is a problem with some older sofas etc. Samsung did one "slim" model I think some time ago, but not sure if you can still buy it.
wolfgangbabad··on OpenAI declares 'code red' as Google catches up in AI race
Google is too big to fail. It's the backbone of the Internet. Just YouTube is synonymous with online video.

wolfgangbabad··on KDE celebrates the 29th birthday and kicks off the yearly fundraiser
My dream is that The Qt Company will make some monstrous deal with the EU and all the licensing will become 100% opensource while they will be tasked and paid to maintain it longterm and work on it.
wolfgangbabad··on Tauri binding for Python through Pyo3
I agree. I don't mind VS Code or some app a person did eats 300 MB of RAM and is Electron if it does the job done. By the way good luck implement something like rtl, i18n, text select and right click context menus in you favorite C/Go/Rust/ImGui/ImmediateModeWhatever library.

Wanna switch between Arabic, Chinese, English in a textarea or input or the whole app? Trivial in Electron. Again, good luck with that in any other environment.

Electron is superior for any text/form apps. HTML/CSS/JS are truly magical if you dive deeper and for any form-like classical type of crud apps there is really no better option.

With our computers getting more RAM and disk space every few years - especially compared to AI needs, Electron is actually super lean compared to those AI llms models. Funny enough, LM Studio is an Electron app ;)

wolfgangbabad··on Datastar response to misunderstandings
The author is very aggressive and pushy, he makes fun of people who disagree with him on Discord and now even here on hackernews. Notice the pattern of his comments/responses - he tends to belittle people. On Discord he use vulgar language - here he is more careful to maintain image. But it still permeates through his comments no matter how hard he tries to mask his true self.
wolfgangbabad··on I switched from Htmx to Datastar
You are wrong. A few months ago before the Pro announcement I was exploring HTMX, Unpoly and Datastar was the new thing. It looked cool - especially the demo of a game like thingy. But the page was kind of unresponsive still. This is a common pattern among even Liveview pages where the server roundtrip is still a thing unlike in a typical SPA despite it beings using SSE it's still not local React/Svelte/Vue app experience. That's why you will end up moving more and more parts to Alpine from Livewire/Liveview .... anyway.... I asked the guys on the Discord channel for Datastar how would I do the spa like page navigation between pages. And he got irritated - probably because this wasn't the first time somebody asked that - and told me that I don't get Datastar that that is wrong, Datastar don't care about that. But it was in a such weird aggressive way , he was mociking me, my intelligence and used very childish ad hominem attacks. I then left. And ok, he doesn't like the spa navigation or datastar doesn't care with that at all, but the way he addressed via an attack on me was super negative. You don't call people idiots because they would like from Datastar a functionality that is common in HTMX, Unpoly, Liveview or Livewire. Perhaps they have something like that - or in the PRO version, but I don't care. If you want realtime go with Phoenix Liveview instead - their community is much more friendly and mature.
wolfgangbabad··on I switched from Htmx to Datastar
Be careful with Datastar. If the paid "PRO" features are not enough to warn you let me just say that I had a very unfortunate encounter with the author. I asked about how to do something like wire:navigate in Livewire and he told me that's not necessary and I don't understand Datastar and I should go fuck off. He was very ad hominem and aggressive. Won't use his product ever.

Again, the proof that music and sound is 50% of success of a game. Even if the game flops the OST will live on. I always invest time in music and sound as much as possible.
wolfgangbabad··on Typst: A Possible LaTeX Replacement
Another unpronounceable project name. Well done.
wolfgangbabad··on Claude now has access to a server-side container environment
My experience is similar. At first Claude was super smart and get even very complicated things right. Now even super simple tasks are almost impossible to finish right, even if I really chop things into small steps. Also it's much slower even on Pro account than a few weeks ago.
wolfgangbabad··on Europe's Largest Makerspace
EU has much better banking than the US. With VAT ID is paradoxically less fragmented as well. SEPA transactions is something the US can only dream about and will never materialize because Jim Texan's Right Bank ltd. will be against a common payment framework ;D because freedom or some other generic-murikan brainfart. America ban when cannot compete. Culture of guns and oppression.
