wizzard0··on I've been waiting over a month for Anthropic support to respond
Their response time is usually around a month IME, yes.
wizzard0··on How to code Claude Code in 200 lines of code
wdym? claude code is just a wrapper

you can get yourself an api key at console.anthropic.com and build whatever you want

(i use local models where possible but must admit opus45 is good)

wizzard0··on Show HN: Timelinize – Privately organize your own data from everywhere, locally
Definitely not sqlite-on-s3! Just for the photos and videos, and the periodic db backups
wizzard0··on Show HN: Timelinize – Privately organize your own data from everywhere, locally
Wow that's great! Interesting if it's possible to use not just a folder but like a s3-compatible backend for photos and for db backups as well

(I don't think all my photo/video archives would fit on my laptop, though the thumbnails definitely would, while minio or something replicated between my desktop plus a backup machine at Hetzner or something would definitely do the thing)

wizzard0··on Authentication (sorry, no whitepaper for you)
one-time codes are better than magic links imho.

think a minimal, clean work pc and email on the phone.

can also do both ofc.

wizzard0··on Typed Lisp, a Primer
of all things, this is the most beautifully formatted and organized LISP guide i've ever met.
wizzard0··on Urtext: The Python plaintext library for people who've tried everything else
this is all very cool, but what it does sorely miss is usage examples.

it must be obvious for its creators, but presents quite a wall of features for others to join in.

wizzard0··on Digital Archivists: Protecting Public Data from Erasure
A lot of paper archives and libraries burned just recently in LA.
wizzard0··on Moving away from US cloud services
> git repos: too hard

I've found OneDev (selfhosted) to be an excellent alternative, unlike others which feel either half-baked or require a lot of configuration/maintenance

wizzard0··on Chat is a bad UI pattern for development tools
Can't say for everyone, but I have terrible memory and rely heavily on the chat history (and other tools) to keep my mental model in shape.

Here, ephemeral means "this conversation might as well never had happened", so why waste time on that?

wizzard0··on Lossless Compression of Vector IDs for Approximate Nearest Neighbor Search
what is surprisingly missing from their comparison is roaring bitmaps [0]

i'm sure they should've seen this paper because it's quite old

wizzard0··on 100x defect tolerance: How we solved the yield problem
this is an important reminder that all digital electronics is really analog but with good correction circuitry.

and run-time cpu and memory error rates are always nonzero too, though orders of magnitude lower than chip yield rates

wizzard0··on Billing is broken at the Gandi domain registrar
well, thanks for the nudge, moved my domains elsewhere.
wizzard0··on Uv's killer feature is making ad-hoc environments easy

  #!uv run
  # /// script
  # requires-python = ">=3.10"
  # dependencies = [
  # "click>8",
  # "rich",
  # ]
  # ///
and that's it
wizzard0··on Billing is broken at the Gandi domain registrar
Login works fine, operations after you log in - not so much. Edited "down" to "broken".
wizzard0··on Billing is down at the Gandi domain registrar
Thanks. I guess we need to summon dang now to remove the url?
wizzard0··on Billing is down at the Gandi domain registrar
[NOTE: Is it OK to submit URLs that require login?]

https://status.gandi.net shows all green, but:

- can't add or remove credit cards

- balance refill charges the card, sends no emails, account balance stays at $0

- at https://admin.gandi.net/billing/ you can't view invoices/orders etc with CORS error:

Access to script at 'https://assets-admin-gandi.global.ssl.fastly.net/billing/dis...' from origin 'https://admin.gandi.net' has been blocked by CORS policy: The 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header contains multiple values 'https://admin.gandi.net,', but only one is allowed.

(edit: yes, I've double-checked and that's the actual Gandi website)

wizzard0··on The Evaporative Cooling Effect in Social Networks (2010)
Dreamwidth has this feature, agree it's awesome.

Obviously you don't see private journals someone is reading, still a good way to discover new things.

wizzard0··on How I program with LLMs
Google gets money from showing you ads, not because you pay them for quality search results.

When you have to come over and over, and visit more pages to finally find what you needed, they get much more cash from advertisers than when you get everything instantly.

wizzard0··on Cloudflare blocking accounts due to billing bug
Accidents always happen on vacations %)

Thanks for the ack!

wizzard0··on AMD 'Strix Halo' Ryzen AI Max+ Debuts with RDNA 3.5 Graphics and Zen 5 CPU Cores
M2 Max discharges in 2-3h when running ML models, and plugged into 140W brick.

M4 is likely more power efficient, but not 2x.

wizzard0··on Cloudflare blocking accounts due to billing bug
moondream.ai, caretai.app affected, likely more

> Nov 28: @cloudflare gives us $250k in credits, so I move a bunch of workloads over

Jan 1: They try to charge us. I open a support ticket, no response until I posted QT, they say they opened a ticket to the internal billing team.

Today: R2 access cut off

wizzard0··on Building a Knowledge System That Enhances Rather Than Replaces Thought
I had tried a ton of options, and settled on ceramic ball pens.

They're both the softest and most robust on different kinds of paper in case you don't have your preferred notebook/whatever handy

wizzard0··on Worst US hack in history: Chinese can monitor all your calls and emails
turns out the backdoor is a door after all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
wizzard0··on Pushing AMD's Infinity Fabric to Its Limit
btw what's about as important is that in practice you don't need to write super clever code to do that, these 68GB/s are easy to reach with textbook code without any cleverness
wizzard0··on Show HN: Fireproof – local-first database with Git-like encrypted sync
fireproof is super cool!

built a lot over couchdb 10y ago and fireproof checks most of the pain points i had with it!

wizzard0··on Weight-loss drug found to shrink muscle in mice, human cells
well that's a weight reduction too!

on a more serious note, could it be that the load on the muscle gets lower so they adjust?

8% reduction for 30% body weight reduction sounds reasonable to me at first glance

wizzard0··on AAA – Analytical Anti-Aliasing
those buttery smooth gradients are soooo pleasing to watch <3
wizzard0··on First Impressions: Lenovo T14s with Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM64 CPU
well the poster looks to have an ubuntu flair on its profile pic
wizzard0··on There are only two asset classes: ownership and debt
that article is suspiciously quiet on commodities (and their derivatives, in case you don't want to sign up for storage/delivery/etc etc).

commodity derivatives are kind of a debt of a physical operator though
