witheld··on EU regulators make anti-speeding tech and 'black box' mandatory by 2035
He thought it was just a theory he had, but it’s actually an observable fact in America.

witheld··on They're made out of meat (1991)
It’s a pipe dream, we’ve never done anything that isn’t pretty much observed in nature.

Electricity is observable in lightning bolts, nuclear fission is in the stars, birds fly without all the extra fuss. There’s not a single hint that we’ll ever do anything extraordinary.

witheld··on Show HN: I stripped DALL·E Mini to its bare essentials and converted it to Torch
This is literally irrelevant, this is about attempting to register art as owned BY the computer

If you give the computer the instructions, such as “avocado chair”, the avocado chair is yours.

It wouldn’t be yours if it was something like a deep dream- if you ran the program with no input and generated a “random” work.

witheld··on Show HN: I stripped DALL·E Mini to its bare essentials and converted it to Torch
You pressed the button, it's owned by you, all rights are reserved by default.
witheld··on Study: Flu vaccination linked to 40% reduced risk of Alzheimer's disease
Please…don’t throw out weird medical voodoo?
witheld··on Crypto Needs to Be Eradicated
The production of genuine art is productive.

Also it’s very hard to argue that casinos should exist so that’s kind of a non-starter.

witheld··on Crypto Needs to Be Eradicated
Video games are fun, fun is a vital human need- video games are productive.
witheld··on A 2-yr-old showed signs of puberty after exposure to his dad's testosterone gel
Children are not allowed to have hormones, only puberty blockers.
witheld··on End-of-life smartphone? Penguins at PostmarketOS aim to revive it
That’s why you make it a legal requirement- if Qualcomm wants customers it has to comply.
witheld··on What’s Going on with Sriracha?
It’s just silly to insist on vinegar- fermented sauces are delicious, sriracha is mostly pepper paste, etc
witheld··on What’s Going on with Sriracha?
It’s peak of popularity was several years ago, I’m not sure how you missed it.
witheld··on What’s Going on with Sriracha?
So you only like generic hot sauce like Tobasco and Buffalo sauce, very interesting.
witheld··on Raleigh, N.C. company will pay you $2k to release 100 cockroaches into your home
Why can’t they just ask for people already have infestations?
witheld··on Amazon Engineer Sues for Work from Home Costs
Just cap the commute costs to the mean of the commute cost of local businesses.
witheld··on Woman accused of tracking boyfriend with Apple AirTag, killing him with car
These aren’t GPS trackers though- GPS trackers are expensive, use a considerable amount of power, and require subscription fees to a service provider.

An AirTag is a dumb BLE chip that screams occasionally, and piggybacks off everyone’s iPhones which already have both GPS and cell subscriptions.

witheld··on Show HN: My small program from 2007 that gave Internet Explorer tabs
It’s not a referral of the referred accounts don’t pay
witheld··on Douglas Hofstadter: Artificial neural networks today are not conscious
One of them is it gonna think about itself, someday. But probably not on a non-analog computer.
witheld··on How Street Dogs Spend Their Days
It’s more being docile enough to be equipped with a Jersey, and to not remove it.
witheld··on Apple Will Be Forced to Use USB-C Charger in iPhones
I don’t damage my ports I don’t have a frame of reference for them not being robust.

I do know that I can’t really use headphones with my iPhone because the experience blows because they disconnect. I do know that often my phone isn’t charged because the connection from the charger wasn’t good. C type is a better experience and the only time I’ve had a defective or damaged C port was on a sub $100 BLU phone

witheld··on Apple Will Be Forced to Use USB-C Charger in iPhones
I switched from Android to to iPhone SE- mostly as a matter of longevity and relatively cheap repair prices.

Lighting is not better, it slides out more easily, it’s connections are less consistent (if you’re using a headphone adapter you will get disconnects), and it just doesn’t feel as good.

witheld··on Valve updates FAQ about Source mods: no more Source engine code access
tf2 classic and open fortress only reverse engineered the leaked source- none is distributed in the mod
witheld··on DALL-E 2 generates images of Kermit The Frog in various films
The computer was asked to produce photos of Kermit the frog. It failed spectacularly at rendering anything resembling Kermit the frog.
witheld··on Ask HN: What's your use case for iPads/Android pads?
It’s a giant perfect e-reader, and a small kitchen computer/TV.
witheld··on Bob Cassette Rewinder: Hacking Detergent DRM
It actually caused their golden goose investor to drop out in the middle of a deal- that single video killed the entire company.
witheld··on Blogchain
I can’t use my browser’s “back” button to leave that page, very classy.
witheld··on The problem with hard and soft skills
You can’t sit here and say that you know the answers to the questions, despite the fact that you can’t define what a hard or soft skill is. You gotta pick one stance here man.

Have you never heard of “soft skills” OR the genders are the same, which is it? If you don’t know what a soft skill is, how are concluding that they’re both the same gender? You literally said you don’t understand the question.

witheld··on EU law will force Apple to blow open its entire hardware and software stack
Amazing how many simps show up in these threads to cry that their dear sweet Apple might have to face democracy.
witheld··on Regular blood donations can reduce “forever chemicals” in the bloodstream: study
Detoxification is not any part of “conventional medicine”, or, to give it appropriate weight “medicine”. It’s also not part of any “school of thought” that isn’t crackpot garbage (so called “alternative medicine”)
witheld··on PSA: If you want to know why a company rejected you, send them a GDPR request
The thing about GDPR is that they can’t prove one way or another whether you are or are not a European citizen, so they are legally obligated to fill the request regardless.
witheld··on Experimental depression treatment is nearly 80% effective in controlled study
Just start the process, get the fMRI scan, pay for that, and request a copy and bail.
