wisienkas··on Germany is not supporting ChatControl – blocking minority secured
I hate to see my country pushing for this. It has not touched the media at all in Denmark(Highly suspicious that even the gossip and drama medias have not touched the subject) and the public opinion is a hard NO for this type of regulation and invasion of privacy. I am yet to see anyone actually supporting this from a citizen perspective.
wisienkas··on Meta puts stop on promotion of tell-all book by former employee
Was this just "manually" removed from the most trending on Hacker News?
wisienkas··on Delta Chat – Email Based PGP Encrypted Chat
I mean you could simply setup a registry of Aliases for emails to achieve the same effect?

On the same note, isn't phone numbers being more sensitive information than email nowadays, hence you might not want to share it.

wisienkas··on Users say Glassdoor added real names to user profiles without their consent
Can anyone summarize how this breaks or does not break european GDPR?
wisienkas··on LLM agents can autonomously hack websites
Agree, it seems that the LLM was able to crack the typical exploits found on weak websites that has never seen the light of the OWASP10. The paper also lists that the pages was greatly cherrypicked for testing the hypothesis, which indicate while it is possible, it is not a breakthrough.
wisienkas··on Facebook breaks EU law against targeted advertising?
I think the idea is that targetted ads and the whole "manipulation" industry can profile you so well, nowadays that you are coerced into buying products you might not have wanted to buy, however by abusing your emotions and interests, they successfully manage to scam you into buying. This is a consequence on the individual, hence why the briefing come into play.
wisienkas··on The problem with slow tools (2021)
I'm not going to say that slow tools is not an issue, however I think slow management processes has a far greater cost to an organization, and the amount of people in management or business analysts doing psedou-work. Which the author also indicate end of the post, how many of us don't have a few 30-60 minutes meetings a week that effectively have no value to anyone.
wisienkas··on RunWithScissors() (2009)
I was very surprised to see that there was an inconsistency between the constructors as well as the fields placed after all the methods and private and public methods mixed and matched in order, trying to see what mLooper was about.

I would not have approved this code.

wisienkas··on Hot Pixel' Attack Steals Data from Apple, Intel, Nvidia, and AMD Chips
The article mentions 0.1 bit per second, but cpu's are handling mb's in seconds, so is this actually sufficient, even at 1 bit per second, to gain any useful insight from the system?
wisienkas··on Google Maps Hacks (2020)
I was about to mention the same thing. Why not spin up a serverfarm of virtual androids and spoof the GPS to slowly move through a specific street.
wisienkas··on What is the inverse of a vector?
My thought exactly
wisienkas··on Are software engineering “best practices” just developer preferences?
To some extend best practices are just developer preferences, but some best practices are also due to experience which has shown alternatives to attract problems down the lane.

Personally I think the most important thing is to agree within a project, what style and what practices to follow, so everyone is going in the same direction. This should in my opinion make the code more maintainable and extensible, due to the reduction in cognitive overload for the developers involved.

wisienkas··on What it's like to spend 40-50 hours in VR every week
Discussed this with co-workers 2 years ago, seems this could be reality. I think for offices this might be a usecase for office mainframes coming back
wisienkas··on 2006: Dwarf Fortress
Dwarf Fortress is an inspiration to drive upon for any other simulation like games.

The depth of this game is truly incredible. I'd imagine if it could exists for a port to nintendo switch

wisienkas··on Hash collision in Apple NeuralHash model
I looked at the link and looked at the output from the algorithm for the 2 images which was a MD5 hash. so from that :)
wisienkas··on Hash collision in Apple NeuralHash model
Not knowing too much of the NeuralHash model, but why are they using MD5 hash, they are known to have many collisions. We don't use MD5 for private/public keys for the same reason
wisienkas··on “I'm not sure there is an acceptable solution to the problem we are facing”
It has been proved that most of those masks sold simply aren't closely sewed enough to stop the droplets containing the disease. So in general the mask don't help. Secondly the mask only help avoiding spreading the virus from yourself to other and it doesn't protect from receiving the virus
wisienkas··on Google claims copyright on employee side projects
I would call them out if they object and was to sloopy to write "either X or Y"
wisienkas··on The Clean Farming Revolution
I think a much better approach would be to look away from using pesticides and start looking in other directions for doing agriculture
wisienkas··on Skills Poor Programmers Lack
and you question yourself if it was better to pack that readability into a function or not.

Also why would anyone store a boolean named isDone rather than just returning it as the contract of the function

wisienkas··on Skills Poor Programmers Lack
I have a feeling you felt hurt on those points?
wisienkas··on Facebook won’t let you opt out of its phone number ‘look up’ setting
This is going to be interesting in EU where this is not allowed in such way. I believe fines are given as percentage of overall turnover. meaning expensive no matter the size of the company.
wisienkas··on Ask HN: How to stop worrying and start enjoying?
The best books I ever read to challenge those worries was:

- The subtle art of not giving a F*

- The rational Male

- No more mr. nice guy

wisienkas··on 10GHz at under 1V by 2005 - The future of Intel’s manufacturing processes [2000]
It is about having vision really. Appreciate their vision from back then, and embrace what they have achieved so far
wisienkas··on Why Lisp is now an acceptable scripting language
Would be fun to have a tracker of how many clicked the link from HN as well
wisienkas··on [dead]
Why are you saying that AI's cannot be Creative and different like humans? There are AI's making new image arts, paintings, solving DNA problems, making "EVER" changing music.
wisienkas··on 80x40
An Interesting approach would be to use it as a GIF or video by using some distance formular to sort all the changes in the least changing way.
wisienkas··on Founder of Facebook's Oculus hit with lawsuit
All these lawsuits in IT are seriously getting ridiculous. Some times they are right, sometimes they are not. But really why all this confidential and agreement.

If you work just 1 place they can accuse that you use knowledge from there in your new job.

Life is hard, Don't attack personal people, just live harder.

wisienkas··on Artificial Intelligence Will Kill Capitalism
Should an AI be able to own its own hardware and have a company by itself?

How will this affect us?

wisienkas··on Those making $1,000+/month on side projects – what did you make?
I'm just getting betting sites tab-pops
