willmorrison··on Ask HN: What file sharing apps do you guys use?
https://file.pizza/ works well.
willmorrison··on Statement from Dario Amodei on our discussions with the Department of War
They essentially said "we're not fans of mass surveilance of US citizens and we won't use CURRENT models to kill people autonomously" and people are saying they're taking a stand and doing the right thing? What???

I guess they're evil. Tragic.

We’re building the modern standard for subsurface data management. Our software handles borehole logging, lab testing, CPT data, and PDF digitization. BoreDM is used by 40+ geotechnical firms and 20+ state DOTs nationwide.

Looking for a full-stack engineer to join us. Interest or experience in local-first/offline-first architecture is a plus.

Boston preferred, but D.C. works too.

Very interested, I’ve been working on SRS software and care about this problem too. My email is in my profile.

willmorrison··on Framework Laptop 16 Review
I'm running gnome in fedora silverblue on an Intel 13" Framework and I only get ~6 hours of battery life doing web browsing, school work, light programming, and watching videos.

What does your environment look like on NixOS? I had trouble connecting Phoenix to Postgres and ended up using SQLite for my test project. Do you have a database configured in shell.nix somehow?
willmorrison··on Chainalysis: A startup that helps governments trace crypto
They also say they can trace Monero, so I don’t fully trust their statements.
willmorrison··on Show HN: Crawlee – Web scraping and browser automation library for Node.js
It looks like you can specify HTTP headers, so you should be able to use a captcha solving service with Crawlee.
willmorrison··on Dotfiles being hidden is a UNIXv2 mistake (2012)
Home Manager really doesn’t lead to many problems, and if you encounter any the NixOS community is wonderful. You can set up everything without understanding much of the Nix language by looking at other people’s configs on GitHub.
willmorrison··on Dusting “Attack” via Tornado Cash to Public Wallets
Users can specify what inputs they are sending in a transaction with lower-level software like the Bitcoin RPC, but a typical wallet does not expose that functionality.
willmorrison··on Ask HN: Developers who switched from native development to Flutter, how is it?
Flutter can target the web too: https://flutter.dev/multi-platform/web
willmorrison··on Ask HN: Games which will help increase my appetite for risk?
Escape From Tarkov or The Cycle: Frontier. Most of the game is managing what resources you have and taking risks to attain more.

willmorrison··on Regolith Linux
I tried regolith for a few days and am now using arch with sway window manager. From what I remember, regolith was mostly default i3 bindings along with a handy cheat sheet that would pop up. I agree completely about the productivity boost.
willmorrison··on The plain-text internet is coming
That’s not dedicated.
willmorrison··on The plain-text internet is coming
No, you can’t. Maybe a dedicated Raspberry Pi from one of the services that rents those out?
willmorrison··on Ask HN: Does anyone else think this 2FA everywhere is getting out of hand?
I use Bitwarden’s 2FA feature which makes it very simple. Since I’m already using Bitwarden’s Firefox extension for password management, it’s easy to grab the OTP when needed.
willmorrison··on Ask HN: How do you share your personal setup over different computers?
I used to have this same setup, but recently I switched to a bare git repo following the advice of this article: https://www.atlassian.com/git/tutorials/dotfiles

I think this is much better and you might consider it

willmorrison··on Light mode, Dark mode, and Gen-Z mode?
The author did design for Gen-Z aesthetics. At the end of the post, he says they may even complete the feature.
willmorrison··on Sodinokibi/REvil Ransomware Defendant Extradited to United States
Hopefully there can be some sort of plea deal to handle Russia.
willmorrison··on Bringing the Framework Laptop to more of the world
I’m using Arch with Wayland and Sway and I notice very little battery drain. I generally shut it down overnight though. Do most people rarely shut down their laptops?
willmorrison··on Open-Sourcing our Firmware
Battery life on mine with a pretty minimal Arch install and TTY is around 10 hours when doing light web browsing and programming. Only problems I’ve had are hardware related. The trackpad isn’t 100% reliable (sometimes clicks don’t work and I have to press hard to get it to work again) and the hinge is far too loose. Love the laptop overall.
willmorrison··on Ask HN: Which tech stack is the most fun?
I’m currently using SvelteKit linked to a go backend. You don’t have to use any of the backend capabilities of SvelteKit if you don’t want to. It’s great to work with.
