whywhywhywhy··on You said no MCP
Important to remember most ai influencers are a joke and spewing nonsense, claiming things are “over” is one of the only reliable and viable ways to for a person not at OpenAI/anthropic to actually make money in this wave.
whywhywhywhy··on Everybody’s home. No one’s coming over
All of that sounds many times better than just being alone without a community.
whywhywhywhy··on Coding is not solved
They write tests for it fine too, they actually work even better when you force them to.

Mind sharing your model choice and approach if you can’t get them to successfully test for counting the letters.

whywhywhywhy··on Coding is not solved
They literally don’t because these “problems” don’t arise in that situation, and the bias in this article misses that.

This is a writer hearing problems LLMs have and inventing an imagined reality where those cause coding issues not because they understand how LLMs manage to code but because they think these problems are part of what coding is.

The actual reality is LLMs have no problem writing code for anything described here as shortcomings because writing code to do something is different enough from doing the thing.

Proficiency in counting Rs and proficiency in writing code that counts Rs are different and you can fail one and excel at the other it turns out.

whywhywhywhy··on Coding is not solved
Reading this article its just clear the author hasn't used the current generation for real work.

> LLMs can wing it for tasks that are related to natural language (e.g. writing social media posts, reports, articles, etc.) but when it comes to code, the same engine that struggles to count number of R’s in “Raspberry” or suggests a walk to the carwash, also exposes other logical fallacies

Weirdly none of those things matter when writing code and actually LLMs fail at social media posts and articles to anyone who has seen enough of it can clock it's AI straight away, yet everyone who's used these models properly has solved harder problems than walk to the carwash with them, neither of the problems he's claiming are code were proposed as code problems or tested as code problems.

A lot of what's said just comes across as wishful thinking and being out of touch with the level of output current models can do, and I mean hard problems too.

whywhywhywhy··on Plan mode is dead
In Claude Code it started to feel like it just asks 2 questions and sometimes there isnt really needed 2 questions so the options there often felt like choosing to downgrade or do something actually dumb because it was forced to suggest 2 things.
whywhywhywhy··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
If you want me to read it, if you want me to attend or buy it, maybe just spend the hour to make the actual poster.

Even amateur work is more appealing than the AI poster look.

whywhywhywhy··on I built non-autoregressive decision models with RL a year ago
"if you build it they will come" is a lie, marketing and branding matter and whats funny is often the biggest proponents of "if you build it" don't even realize the things they see going viral are marketed to them, they extremely naively think it got traction simply because it was good and they "built the right thing", not true.
whywhywhywhy··on iPhone Duo
Unless it's wired you need enough hardware Timewarp / Reprojection anyway otherwise dropped frames would cause motion sickness.

There just isn't a world where it makes sense to make this very expensive headset and not put a relatively cheap computer in it too which then opens it up to normies who don't own powerful tower computers for content consumption and light games.

whywhywhywhy··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
>a world in which the labor required of each human to lead a flourishing life approaches zero.

Just doesn't add up to a world where this benefits, if the thing takes no effort why would someone else pay for it?

Feel this with the big influx of people selling vibe coded software, if you could vibe code it why would I ever pay you for it instead of just making my own clone.

whywhywhywhy··on Open Source 3D Emoji
So by "3D" they actually just mean a more shaded 2D illustration style closer to Apple's emoji delivered as a flat PNG
whywhywhywhy··on My temporary PHP fix from 2014 has nearly 20M installs. Today I'm deprecating it
Major libraries used them so yeah the numbers are real, left-pad was in every react and babel install.
whywhywhywhy··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
> the tricksters from UK have long since left themselves?

This wasn’t intentional of the people who started the cogs turning, it was meant to be an empty gesture to get elected, no one expected it to actually pass.

whywhywhywhy··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
I mean Blackberry is long gone and missed its full potential, VFX industry only exists there temporarily because of tax credits, once a better deal is offered elsewhere all that will up and leave that’s how that industry works. Not to mention AI is going to obliterate large VFX teams for a lot of productions.

So neither of these are good sustainable examples.

whywhywhywhy··on Vibe Coding is the new Internet Dating?
> as a term, is supposed to denote a human-in-the-loop..... But how much longer will that be true?

Why do you think Claude claims its work on git is co-authored, and now has started putting links to the transcript showing your working. It's about sending a message to the one paying your salary that all your real input in the creation was a few messages and you're replaceable in that equation.

whywhywhywhy··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
Search on Mac has been very broken for a while, whatever they use to get the text results from files just can’t handle code, one node_modules folder and that list will just be hundreds of JavaScript files no matter what you type.
whywhywhywhy··on Apple's Dimensional Drawings
isn't the correct term Superellipse

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superellipse

whywhywhywhy··on Proof of Capture: Apple Reference Image, but open source and using steganography
>a screen attack still works: photograph a screen displaying an AI image and you get a signed photo of a fake

you don't need to do that just photograph a screen.

This seems close to worthless in "identifying real photos vs AI" for someone actually wanting to do something bad with an AI image, although probably very useful at identifying which phone took a photo when ("the root of trust stays inside Apple's Private Cloud Compute") seen as it's not an entirely local solution a bad actor government could use their powers to completely abuse this.

whywhywhywhy··on iPhone Duo
For “just a display” you need a computer in there anyway.
whywhywhywhy··on iPhone Duo
Anecdotal obviously but clamshell is the only one I've known people using, but it's several who switched from iPhone to Android for that form factor and yeah it's all women which is what really surprised me they didn't go that route as I thought that was the foldable that was most successful, not the Surface Duo phone to phablet size.
whywhywhywhy··on Mistral raises €3B
It's a mistake when Apple does it too, they're back in the same situation they were with Google Maps in the early iPhone days.
whywhywhywhy··on Bill Gates tries to install MovieMaker (2003)
> I reboot every night

The fact he did is probably responsible for a lot of issues with Windows installing and problems. Normalizing a reboot as a common thing.

I also suspect the fact he keeps re-iterating that the download was fast is because the teams have been using slow internet as an excuse for code speed problems.

whywhywhywhy··on Show HN: The load-bearing vocabulary of Claude
I'm shocked "shape" isn't near the top
whywhywhywhy··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
Means nothing though because no European country can produce the goods an impoverished European can afford to pay for the goods so the local store is just the same Chinese goods shipped to that address other than your home address.
whywhywhywhy··on Tidal Cycles – Live coding music with Algorithmic patterns
Shortchanging it a bit when it moves it to the browser so less technical people can run it and moves it to a language significantly more people understand too.
whywhywhywhy··on The Lost Treasure of Sid Meier's Pirates
Yeah Worms was coded on Amiga computers in a part of the world that was extremely Amiga heavy so it’s unlikely Gorillas.bas is the reference point.
whywhywhywhy··on Pixel 11 Pro Fold feels like the end of an era
Look up the figures for inflation, your money is worth a fraction of what it was before COVID, then we have component shortages on top of that.
whywhywhywhy··on Pixel 11 Pro Fold feels like the end of an era
This article is extremely poorly written and has the assumption we all very deep in folding phone lore and can read the writers mind.

I think there's some new folding phone aspect ratio ("passport sized"?) that's more popular but the article never really explains which one they're talking about. Don't think it means moving away from folding in general.

whywhywhywhy··on Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union
> yes, though the level of headache is relatively minimal

Minimal if you're technical, completely incomprehensible if you're not. I mean I know when the OS says "this application is damaged and should be deleted" that it's lying and there is a terminal command for it, I can never remember it off the top of my head.

At least the right click open thing was something a normie could remember, but a non-technical person doesn't understand navigating a file structure and running a terminal command on a file with flags.
