whiterock··on Matrix 2.0: The Future of Matrix
oh that‘s so cool. will give it a try now! :) really looking forward to the search feature btw hehe.
whiterock··on Matrix 2.0: The Future of Matrix
my biggest struggle with matrix, is that, at least in element-ios, messages keep transpositioning, i.e. at some random time a message that is 2 days old is pushed all the way down to the new messages. also the aop frequently crashes with some media.

but apart from that I of course love the idea of an „SMTP approach“ to instant messaging :)

whiterock··on Zig 0.11
It‘s a shame macOS Arm is deprecated :(
whiterock··on My first superoptimizer
This reminds of an undergrad paper I once wrote in which I showed that binary functions in n variables need asymptotically not more (and seldom less) than 2^n/n boolean gates.
whiterock··on Space Elevator
Now please somebody create this in the opposite direction :) Down the mariana trench and beyond.
whiterock··on Show HN: QuadSort, Esoteric Fast Sort
looks awesome. making this the default sort would surely save lots of co_2.
whiterock··on Show HN: I may have created a new type of puzzle
might be an off-beat opinion, but I think the rules are perfectly clear as is. Took me around 5 minutes from first sighting.
whiterock··on High-dose Vitamin B6 reduces anxiety and strengthens visual surround suppression
Interesting - that‘s quite shattering to hear actually, I don‘t think I will bother with therapy then.

Any references?

whiterock··on High-dose Vitamin B6 reduces anxiety and strengthens visual surround suppression
The outcome is not very strong is it? I looked at the table where they show the depression and anxiety scores. I mean sure I guess 52 -> 47 matters statistically - but does it for an individual? I doubt it. Also I‘d be highly dubious of the opening statement that almost everybody is „borderline deficient in vitamin B6“…

mhm and also quite funnily: „ […] were randomised to receive either Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, or placebo tablets. However, due to technical problems that resulted in some missing data and also because no single outcome measure was included in all phases of data collection the number of participants completing each outcome measure was in all cases less than the full sample size.“

whiterock··on Austrian ISPs Block Cloudflare IP addresses after apparent court order
we have to. our country is confused for Australia so often, we just HAVE TO sell these shirts.
whiterock··on How to play continuous blackjack
it‘s a mathematical excursion… it‘s not meant to be a real life applicable thing. read the article before posting please :)
whiterock··on Austrian ISPs Block Cloudflare IP addresses after apparent court order
the other Australia, the one in Europe, you know Freud, Mozart, Schwarzenegger, Hitler, that Austria.
whiterock··on Austrian ISPs Block Cloudflare IP addresses after apparent court order
Hmm, I am a LIWEST customer myself, but libgen.is is not blocked for me - so are they really blocking IP adresses? I am using 1.1.1.1 as my DNS.

Edit: Okay i tried a few links now - many show a „this domain is for sale“ page, while some work - so I dunno what to do with that…

whiterock··on Gmail will call the cops on you based on the content of your emails
wtf. anybody know in which countries google acts like this? is it only the US?
whiterock··on Map showing birthplaces of "notable people" around the world
According to this map Jean-Paul Sartre is from Colombia?!? He‘s born is Paris, France.
whiterock··on Map showing birthplaces of "notable people" around the world
There are some errors I think - According to wikidata & wikipedia the famous Diego Maradonna is not born in Colombia but Argentina. It strikes me as worrysome since this is such a famous person - I‘d rather expect such errors for less famous persons, right?
whiterock··on To-do waves
probably a „germanism“.
whiterock··on To-do waves
Do you need the premium version for that? Is there any OSS that does that? I might need to get onto that then…
whiterock··on V Language Review
It would be very nice if you could do the same thing for Nim.
whiterock··on Ask HN: Full-text browser history search forever?

whiterock··on Vegetable Oil for Lubricating Chainsaws (2008)
Funny to hear about a feature, which I was totally not aware of, of the law in Austria, where I live, in a statement by the United States of America.
whiterock··on Ivermectin: Much More Than You Wanted to Know

whiterock··on Conterintuitive facts in mathematics, CS, and physics
very cool collection - truly something to pick from at a party. should have much more upvotes imho.
whiterock··on The big alcohol study that didn't happen
Be careful with that. The hangover provides a negative feedback that keeps the vast majority of (any)-alcohol consumers from becoming addicted. Now leave that out and see what happens.

Note: Alcohol hangover is not the same as the immediate withdrawal symptoms of other drugs that let‘s you crave for taking another hit shot whatever. It‘s caused by the myriad of trash by-products in metabolizing ethanol, not for the lack of alcohol. (and for certain alcohols additional also tannins, aroma substances and similar - think of whiskey and cheap wine)

whiterock··on The big alcohol study that didn't happen
The reason that moderate drinkers (i.e. 1-2 doses/day) appear to enjoy less risk of disease than the abstainers, is that the group of the abstainers includes people that used to drink but stopped to (e.g. they were alcholics and sobered up or they got sick and had to stop because of it) which still have hugely elevated risk profiles. When you account for that, the dip vanishes.

whiterock··on Klimaticket: All public transport in Austria with a single ticket for 1095 EUR/y
I don‘t think the cost is so high here, we have covert ticket inspectors, none of those fancy electric gates.
whiterock··on Klimaticket: All public transport in Austria with a single ticket for 1095 EUR/y
