whenwillitstop··on Why I Don’t Talk to Google Recruiters
I was exempted and moved all the way to the last round of interviews. The compensation was even negotiated before hand. I am a regular engineer with three years experience.
whenwillitstop··on Mathematical genius is fragile
Your logic:

Men in specific industries have a higher likelihood to sexually assault women, so much so that it pushes 90% of the women out of an industry with greater than 10M people. Do you understand how delusional that is?

whenwillitstop··on Mathematical genius is fragile
Driven out by who? A mass group of secret conspirators?
whenwillitstop··on New data show that joining the 1% remains unsettlingly hereditary
Why would anyone work hard if the government will strip it from their family.
whenwillitstop··on The STEM Crisis Is a Myth (2013)
This means the business isnt feasible.
whenwillitstop··on Uber C.E.O. To Leave Trump Advisory Council After Criticism
Business isn't figuring that out, it's just good publicity. There's a difference
whenwillitstop··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (February 2017)
Nope!
whenwillitstop··on Standing up for what's right
They only say something when it benefits them, companies are not a charity
whenwillitstop··on Standing up for what's right
I'm just saying, it is no coincidence that they say this. There are a lot of influences like this Uber statement that are doing the same thing. Most people are not aware
whenwillitstop··on Standing up for what's right
You are right, I am. That doesnt change the underlying reasons for a company like Uber to make this statement. It is manipulation of the public, intended to make Uber look moral, as well as intended to reassure their cheap labor base. The fact that people on here are championing it shows how effective this kind of PR is, even among the educated people of HN.
whenwillitstop··on Standing up for what's right
Travis Kalanick, standing up for the cheap labor that drives his Ubers and writes it's code.
whenwillitstop··on Why Your Best Thinking Is in the Shower (2014)
This comment exhibits how far the propaganda of energy efficiency has gone
whenwillitstop··on Ask HN: My internship is asking me to not apply elsewhere, how do I say no?
Your boss:

"Hey! We're giving you a bad employment deal, so don't talk to anyone else, so you don't figure it iut"

whenwillitstop··on First they came for the Iranians
This couldn't be farther from the truth. People branding the current administration like this are destabilizing the country. The media in this country is on an ideological witch hunt, and you are proliferating it.
whenwillitstop··on How to Deal with Populism
Immigrants are paid less, work harder to stay here, cannot switch jobs due to H1B visa laws, are happy to be here at all.
whenwillitstop··on How to Deal with Populism
"the real underlying issue is unemployment/underemployment"

Why is a country that as high unemployment allowing high levels of immigration? Being mad about that seems highly rational to me

whenwillitstop··on The Bipolar Lisp Programmer (2007)
"Similarly, social deficits may be identified as Asperger syndrome when in reality it's may be a lack of common topics/culture and a disregard for the monkeylike social dance"

I agree with this. Any time I've said it in person, people jump all over me. It's heresy

whenwillitstop··on Ask HN: What motivates you?
one day it all ends
whenwillitstop··on Ask HN: Are programmer salaries expected to drastically drop in the near future?
Yeah I think the same thing. If we compare Hadoop to Spark, Spark is just easier and faster. It is superior in almost every way (unless we are talking about 1PB+ scale). I think data science will be automated. Some things wont, but engineers can already get pretty far by jamming data into ML packages.
whenwillitstop··on When You Are Depressed, Make Something
Because peoples interpretations of the situation are believable enough to call fact. Subjective interpretations are not reality. If you think they are then we dont have much to argue here. I have experienced depression for most of my adult life.
whenwillitstop··on When You Are Depressed, Make Something
Right but your assertion here is completely unfounded. It is a theory. Quantifying that nothing in someones life (or their past) is causing them depression is near impossible. This charade is completely scientifically unprovable.

Edit: changed the word sadness to depression.

It means you arent welcome
whenwillitstop··on H-1B Visas: U.S. Lawmaker Re-Introduces Bill to Tighten Rules
That is horrendous, Trump 2016!
whenwillitstop··on Software Developers Should Have Sysadmin Experience
Sysadmin is getting automated. There is not reason to know it.
whenwillitstop··on Plan to restrict highly skilled foreign workers could be a boon for India
It's disturbing that this post, which reflects reality was downvoted.
whenwillitstop··on Amazon's Alexa Moves in on Google's Android System
Watson is all about marketing, it's not that impressive. The stories you see about it are placed.
whenwillitstop··on Ask HN: What manual processes would you automate in your company?
Most of marketing at traditional compnaies can be automated by ML. This is already happening, but there are huge F500 companies where the employees have an incentive not to automate.
whenwillitstop··on Ask HN: How to learn new things better?
Yeah I had the same problem. I actually found this online course at ylanguage.com it was really effective.
whenwillitstop··on Lessons from 3,000 technical interviews
This is not even close to being true. People get hired into top companies all the time.
whenwillitstop··on IQ is only a minor factor in success
This is a narrative, it's not what happens in reality.
