Pretty sure the long recipes are due to others not being able to copy them if you have long essay describing it or something?
what_ever··on Apple reports third quarter results
Yes, like 80 (cost)/20 (experience).
what_ever··on Apple reports third quarter results
If that's the case, why do they keep releasing HomePods?
what_ever··on Apple reports third quarter results
I think that's pretty clear? They didn't say they have a billion subscribers...
what_ever··on Apple reports third quarter results
Whataboutism... You can't argue for one issue by saying what about this other issue.
what_ever··on Apple reports third quarter results
The web still works...

> Is it possible that on Android, where other malls have been permitted for a long time (and sideloading, too) - that there really just isn't much demand for another mall? Maybe they haven't been successful because nobody really wants to deal with another mall. Maybe this will be a complete no-op for Apple if they allow other app stores, too.

Yes, that's exactly the reason Apple is not allowing other malls. /s If it's so harmless for Apple, why not just allow other malls?

> If they allowed other app stores, I wouldn't make the move. I get a ton of value out of Apple's ecosystem, including - maybe especially - the ability to see what subscriptions I have and cancel them with a single click without even interacting with the app vendor.

What makes you think other app stores can't do it? What if apps are cheaper on other app stores because other app stores don't charge 30% tax?

what_ever··on Meta’s Reality Labs prototype hardware
> * edit: Let me just add that Apple TV hardware which is largely abandoned and afterthought product line considered unsuccessful, for example is a 13M/year item for Apple. 20M lifetime is not mass market.

Source? https://www.businessofapps.com/data/apple-statistics/#AppleT... says there 31M active Apple TVs in the US. https://9to5mac.com/2020/09/02/apple-tv-market-share-report/ says Apple TV has 2% share of 1.14B global TV platforms. These don't look like 13M/year of sales.

Besides it seems like comparing apples to oranges. Apple TV works with existing TVs which are already billions in numbers. VR devices are completely new devices. Meta has sold 20M headsets SO FAR, not in its lifetime.

what_ever··on Nvidia shares spike 18% on forecast beat driven by A.I. chip demand
Not saying anything about the valuation but they just provided a guidance of $11B revenue for the next quarter which is about 50% more compared to the quarter they just reported for...
what_ever··on Waymo One doubles service area in Phoenix, continues growing in SF
Tbh, you shouldn't compare Tesla "AutoPilot" with these full self driving options.
what_ever··on StableLM: A new open-source language model
Trying to be fancy to say things won't be running locally. The orchestra/performers won't be live in front of you but on the radio.
what_ever··on StableLM: A new open-source language model
And? Nvidia has been working on AI chips for years.
what_ever··on Apple delays bonuses for some divisions as it scrutinizes costs
Isn't that true for engineers in general and not just engineers at FAANGs?
what_ever··on GPT-4
The point was quantity is important. Of course a lot of things were there before, but the same things being more common now would be worse.
what_ever··on GPT-4
That's as useless of a statement as saying we had <insert_anything> before and we have <insert_same_thing> now.
what_ever··on Python is two languages now
If someone is doing that as an informed decision, they would have heard about typing in Python.

Same. I am always a little surprised to read these comments. Moved from Spotify to Google Play Music to YouTube Music and never really had many issues...

what_ever··on Elon Musk moves ahead with Twitter deal in 13D filing
I think you are overestimating how much money it would need to send a platoon of lawyers. It would relatively cheap thing for Elon.

> As for the rest of maAMA-n? They appear to be doing fine; Amazon's retail challenges are more than made up by AWS. Apple and MS are trundling along as if nothing is happening in the macroenvironment (and they each have 40+ years to have worked out their systems).

what_ever··on Google Maps' moat is evaporating (2020)
You can have multiple lists in Google Maps and the Maps can show those lists together on the UI. I have "Favorites", "Want to Go" among other lists with different pins (including colors).

Disc: Googler but nowhere close to the Maps team.

what_ever··on New MacBook Air with M2
Just "silicon*" as a reply should have been enough. There was no need for the additional sentence and certainly no need for the source/link.
what_ever··on The tech sector teardown is more catharsis than crisis
I don't have data to prove you otherwise, but I don't think 880k would be not possible as the initial stock grant for L6. FB gives that to E5 now so I am not sure why you think L6 can't get that even in 2019. The initial stock grant bands haven't changed that much. I even got 400k as the initial grant in 2017.

Disc: Googler.

what_ever··on Microsoft Opens New HQ in Toronto
