what··on iPhone Duo
The upgrade program cost including the buyout is the exact same price as if you paid it all upfront.
what··on Trey Parker and Matt Stone Are Changing the Name of South Park to South America
Intersex and chromosomal disorders don’t change the sexual binary. They aren’t some weird other sex.

> "Birthing person" is attempting to provide an umbrella term for people who can give birth that may or may not necessarily be female.

There is no person that can give birth and is not female.

what··on Keep Our Servers Running
> If you book a hotel and the room is not up to the standards on their website, take pictures, take screenshots and chargeback.

This is unhinged. Then I can chargeback at McDonald’s because the burger doesn’t look the same as the picture. I still ate it and you probably still stayed in the room.

what··on Keep Our Servers Running
They don’t think you should profit off your work at all. They expect everything for free.
what··on Keep Our Servers Running
Glad I’m not the only one that prefers (c)attrs over pydantic.
what··on 216M Spy TVs – The LG Smart TV Problem [video]
You don’t NEED to participate in those group chats.
what··on Tell HN: Anthropic should make Claude the Author and me the Co-Author
People can still tell that it was Claude, why try to hide it.
what··on Tell HN: Anthropic should make Claude the Author and me the Co-Author
I mean, yes, Claude should be the author and you should just be the committer. But you should also take all the blame from committing whatever Claude wrote.
what··on “Next-token predictor” is the wrong mental model for LLMs
It’s still just predicting the next token though just with a different reward between 2 and 3.
what··on US Military disables ad trackers on troops' phones
That article is pure AI slop.
what··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
> so I can't assess which David Sacks you are talking about

Yes you can. Just open it on X.

what··on Hackers had a live feed of every ID verification company scanned for over a year
Do they live in the woods? How do they work and pay taxes?
what··on Pre-Release of Polars 2.0
If it’s 100% type checked and you’re still hitting massive numbers of type related runtime errors, it probably isn’t 100% checked.
what··on I don't have a smartphone or at least I wish I didn't
90% of the “coupons” at Safeway are “digital deals”. You have to use the app to scan the barcode in store just to get a regular price. Fast food is the same, don’t order through the app and you get ripped off. You’re not forced to use an app an unless you’re okay with getting ripped off.
what··on Renowned NYC Washington Square Park Chess Hustler 'Chichi' Detained by ICE
Dude is a fraudster. Leaving aside the $13M he scammed, why would he face torture if he was returned to his home country?

> CAT Deferral (Deferral of Removal under the Convention Against Torture)

what··on USPS Built an Untested, Undocumented Ballot-Blocking System Despite Injunction
I’m sorry, but how can you demonstrate that there is no fraud when the identity of people voting is not verified? You simply can not. At best you can say the ballots cast are all for registered voters, but not that they actually cast them.
what··on FBI Probes Service Selling 153M+ Drivers Licenses
The idea that people are unable to get IDs is an absolute myth. You need it to for basically everything a normal adult does.
what··on FBI Probes Service Selling 153M+ Drivers Licenses
USPS already handle passport applications no? It’s where I went for my kids and they verify all the documents or whatever.
what··on Retirement Is Dead
I only watched part of 1, but the answer was “no, you can’t retire on 250k”.
what··on Retirement Is Dead
Instead they have a house that they paid 40k for and is worth millions now. Younger generations won’t have that.
what··on We are rebuilding Monica
How would it even be possible? How could it automatically know you met in person and what you did? Or you had a phone call with someone (at least on iOS, access to call logs is not allowed)? Or any other interaction?
what··on The ChatGPT/Codex app bundles a full copy of LibreOffice
> rewrite the entire LibreOffice source into a single Rust binary already!

Why?

what··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
Why would you use Firefox on iOS when it’s just a wrapper around WebKit? I don’t really get it?
what··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
The person charging you more than you think is reasonable in hindsight doesn’t make it a scam? It also doesn’t mean you can do a chargeback?
what··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
Sadly does not apply to political organizations, which is probably the largest source of spam “mail” (to mention nothing of text/sms spam). The amount of crap stuffed into my mailbox every election season is insane.
what··on Show HN: Sesame - a local-first, open-source password manager
What? This has nothing to do with encrypting each secret separately and requiring presence for decryption. Which I think is a good idea, it just has terrible UX.
what··on Show HN: Sesame - a local-first, open-source password manager
I’m really not sure what you’re trying to say? You have some magic device that can tell when you want you reencrypt everything for new devices versus just accessing your passwords? This doesn’t exist.
what··on Show HN: Sesame - a local-first, open-source password manager
Sticky notes is probably absolutely fine security wise if you’re not in an office/shared space.
what··on Show HN: Sesame - a local-first, open-source password manager
Apples SE doesn’t let you load a key, so you have to reencrypt your secrets for every Apple device you want them on… requiring hundreds of touches. The UX just sucks, which is why it’s not a thing.
