what··on Ask HN: What are you reading to your kids?
Late to the party. But magic schoolbus books might meet your needs? You can probably find one on any “sciency” topic you want.
what··on Every SaaS business will become a harness around a model
You don’t need a parlor trick to produce that app.
what··on Every SaaS business will become a harness around a model
Maybe stop to think why they are selling you tokens and the promise of being able to recreate and outcompete every business instead of just doing it themselves.
what··on Apple Pass Designer
I mentioned that in my comment…
what··on Ask HN: Is anybody producing good code with coding agents?
Okay. Don’t share the code, just show us the product.
what··on Ask HN: Is anybody producing good code with coding agents?
Why? It would help understand what “the same code I would’ve written” means.
what··on Pi 1.0
>time is money

One of the dumbest sayings ever. Unless you spend all of your time doing something that makes money, the time is worth $0. You could say that you prefer to do something else during that time and would happily pay to free it up.

what··on Apple Pass Designer
I’m pretty sure the idea was that they would make a pass you can add to wallet instead of installing their app, not that they would sign the random pass you made. I doubt it though because they could have already done that. My local science academy stopped printing cards, they just give you something to add to wallet.
what··on 10-year Treasury yield climbs above 5.3% to a level not seen in 24 years
What? Your numbers are way off. You didn’t read your source, the $2T is total local/state tax revenue, not property taxes.

Also, no we shouldn’t tax securities in a wealth tax scheme. We already tax them when you actually realize a profit or loss. Should we tax the value of your 401k?

what··on Pi 1.0
It’s the same kind of people that would use omz, they probably have no idea what 90% of the batteries are or do. But it sure makes them feel smart and cool.
what··on Pi 1.0
It is actually reasonable to ignore them. It should be plugin/extension you can install if you want.
what··on Pi 1.0
> ~$.50 of Deepseek later I've installed llama.cpp and Llama 3.1

You could install this yourself for free? I get $0.50 isn’t all that much, but still?

what··on 10-year Treasury yield climbs above 5.3% to a level not seen in 24 years
We don’t really tax real estate. That’s why all the old farts pay $1000/year in property taxes on a home that’s worth millions. Do you propose taxing them on the actual value of their homes?
what··on 10-year Treasury yield climbs above 5.3% to a level not seen in 24 years
Raising the income tax rates aren’t going to help though. The ultra wealthy you want to tax have (basically) no income to tax. Are you proposing to institute a wealth tax?

> and nobody wants to do anything to cap its costs such as means testing or straight up lowering the amount it can pay out

Yes because everyone paid into it and wants their money back with interest as promised? This isn’t weird.

what··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
Okay. So all that opposition turnout disappeared in 2024? Where did they go? Were they so disappointed with the alternative that they just decided to just stay home (effectively a vote for Trump)?
what··on Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet?
> bugs

There are no bugs, just happy little accidents.

what··on U.S. postal inspectors shut down website selling counterfeit postage labels
Why is that report so heavily redacted?
what··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
> because they thought he was better than the alternative

There has to be a large number of these? Or how do you explain voting him out and then back in?

what··on Have an LLC
Um, it implies that if you’re “doing business” in California, you are required to register there? “Doing business” has a specific definition, any single member LLC where that member lives in California qualifies.
what··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
If it was genocide, why would you spare the farmers? Doesn’t really make sense.
what··on Kids turned low-traffic NPR Spotify comments into a secret group chat
Put a sweater on instead of running the heat. Maybe I’m just an old fart.
what··on Have an LLC
This is kind of California specific. There isn’t really a work around if you’re “doing business” in California.
what··on Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock
It sounds like he probably forgot about them until his trader friends brought up nvidia. Otherwise why would he go digging through his documents upon being reminded?
what··on Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock
He’s not complaining about the options he exercised, rather the ones he didn’t and would now be worth a billion.
what··on Have an LLC
If you live in California, you likely have to register in California. So you really only have one option, unless you want to register in two places. You’ll also have to pay at least $800/year for the pleasure.
what··on Plunging test scores are a slow-moving catastrophe
There’s something wrong with you.
what··on When did Google get so weird?
Yes, sure, it’s to be social. But if someone asks a stupid trivia question, then just give them the answer. You’re not starting a discussion with a stupid trivia question. You are truly weird.
what··on When did Google get so weird?
Yes, I hate this. The old knowledge panel was way better.
what··on When did Google get so weird?
>It's like when you're in the pub and and someone asks "who was that guy who was in the movie where…?" you can either chat with your friends and have a good time or be a buzzkill who opens up IMDB and says "Humphrey Bogart".

I don’t really understand this. Someone wants an answer not a chat about how you don’t know?
