Now I really feel worried for the first time.
wg0··on Gemini 4 Argon
Breaking news is not the model. Breaking news is that inside Google, it is being heavily used on large code bases for writing code and it is migrating 800k lines of C++ code to Rust already.

In this space, any other company that I respect other than DeepSeek is - that would be Google. They had been honest about it from the get go including their infamous "we have no moat" memo.

This company has enormous data, their own hardware (TPUs) and their own in house experts. Actually, LLMs are invented here.

Good addition to the arsenal.

wg0··on GLM-5.3 and the spread of advanced cyber capabilities
Yeah it was something like that exactly with constant loop trying to take control.

DeepSeek did full reverse engineering on this.

wg0··on GLM-5.3 and the spread of advanced cyber capabilities
They're advertising GLM for free.

Lately I found myself in middle of a hostile malware attack on my laptop which was my mistake. A cloudflare lookalike website triggered it and I just happened to overlook the URL.

In panic I headed to Claude and first request was denied. Not looking beyond scope.

Desperate - I fired opencode with DeepSeek v4 Flash (not even 4.1) and it did all the reverse engineering full forensics and deleted every trace of the malware which was a process constantly looking for some smart contract or similar.

So no, GLM 5.3 is fine. Thank you for the free advertisement.

wg0··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
I can't recommend Chinese models enough. My personal favorite is DeepSeek v4.1 Flash but I have tried Qwen 3.8, Kimi 3 and GLM 5.3 which are equally impressive but DeepSeek is the cheapest and fastest regularly hitting 270 token per second.

And yeah I have worked with Anthropic and OpenAI models, they're good but they cost a fortune while Chinese models are already really good at a fraction of the cost.

wg0··on GPT 6.1 Sol
What's that in summary?
wg0··on Beta version of Campfire rewritten in Rust
I don't even know what to say anymore.
wg0··on Prompting Claude Opus 5.5
"Make me a ticketing system like Jira"

Now this prompt has huge variety of implementation details. Language? PHP/Ruby/Python/Java/Typescript? In each of them then there are tons of frameworks, templating engines, ORMs, database servers, frontend tooling, bundler, frontend framework alone has several dozen candidates from React, Preact, Vue, Svelte and what not.

So if you really know your craft, you'll already be knowing what specific implementation you need so let us not discount the existing expertise here.

wg0··on Coding Is Not Solved
PS: Has anyone watched DHH with Matz lately on Rails Conf where DHH is pretty much badmouthing ruby in front of Matz and Matz ends up saying "its my life's work"?
wg0··on Prompting Claude Opus 5.5
Noobs are burning tokens like "make me an app that does this" whereas an experienced engineer would go with certain language, framework and architecture in mind.
wg0··on Prompting Claude Opus 5.5
If you're not a noob and you know what you're doing then I can't recommend DeepSeek v4.1 Flash (set to high) enough.
wg0··on Breaking Up with Google Play: Why Conversations Is Now Free
At least in Europe - these rouge corporations need to be reined in or just leave the market.

Google Play's app registration is so much more complicated now that Good Luck getting to production ever.

And even then the same thing on every update. If you're a small business and your livelihood depends on that then it's a nightmare to deal with.

And no, kicking them out won't be a problem. No sky is going to fall. Vacuum would be filled in very quickly.

wg0··on Ideas on modernizing the open-source desktop
TBH IMO the Gnome is pretty much done software except that some of the desktop Idioms they can borrow from Apple (like swipe three fingers to switch the workspace) if they're not patented and they could be in settings if someone wants to opt into those otherwise yes.

Gnome is "done software" already and I like it very much.

wg0··on Claude Opus 5.5
Yes exactly. Reading this "thinking" traces is a great tool.
wg0··on Claude Opus 5.5
I am using DeepSeek Harness[0] (switched from OpenCode) and I am using DeepSeek directly via the API. The speed is insane. Like 200 tokens/second is the norm but I have seen much higher too at times.

PS: I do not know why but opencode pushes CPU usage to very high which has NOT happened with DeepSeek harness even once.

It really is good. I forgot to mention that within that said sub agent, it also went into exploring top e-commerce websites (Zalaondo, Temu, Amazon, eBay) for exploring prevailing industry UX best practices and taking screenshots of their product and category pages with its own written chrome driver that I talked about and then went onto prototyping a new website in a temporary directory and then taking hundreds of screenshots to analyse what would be the best column density one each medium for each language.

And that all is 0.07 cents all included.

wg0··on Claude Opus 5.5
No thanks.

I'm good with DeepSeek v4.1 set to high. It is a relentlessly "hardworking" dirt cheap model.

Told it to convert a products page (that had two different fonts based on language) from two columns layout to 5 columns on desktop and 2 columns on mobile ensuring typography is readable.

My man went into spawning sub agent which failed to drive chrome so it wrote its own chrome driver protocol server in Typescript then generated a prototype website then downloaded the images and rendered each variation in a directory taking 100+ screenshots analyzing the typography depth and then delivering detailed report and then writing the whole thing with new page layout testing it again with several dozen screenshots using its driver and then saying all good and all really was good and whole thing took 25 minutes or so (including double visual validation) because it generates token at an incredible speed.

Total cost of the above? $0.07 cents.

PS: It generates token at such a blazing fast speed that you can't recognize the words as they are being added and can't read it without scrolling and pausing even if you're Jimmy Carter.

wg0··on Grok 4.7
Who uses this model? Anyone? For what exactly?
wg0··on OpenAI's Sam Altman to Brief UN Security Council Next Week
The private equity debt time bomb is here. Then there is the bond market.

And then guaranteed bust of AI bubble. 2000 billion dollars for a single company? That too when bottom of the boat has been drilled by open weight Chinese models that are cheaper and good enough but can even be deployed locally?

In face of all that - that kind of return is not realistic.

However - good gimmick scaring UN asking for a ban on Chinese models perhaps.

wg0··on OpenJev
Important - Jev is way too different, the greatest innovation are its speed and that it is guaranteed to NOT generate a token from a given set of tokens hence you can drive state machines intelligently.
wg0··on I don't like passkeys
So where do I keep my pass keys is the problem. They are in my password manager just like another password. So what's the point of having them because effectively, the passwords in the password manager and the passkey in the password manager offer the same UX to me? Except that at least I can memorize a password by heart just in case.
wg0··on I don't like passkeys
They really are bad. Passkeys have turned out to be just another password that you cannot even memorize.
wg0··on Bend 2 and the Vibe-Coding Trap
If you have to write LAWS.bend which is pure code describing the laws then it isn't basically like those old days of writing unit tests and that too tests first hence the TDD?

So what is the unique idea here except a vibe coded compiler that generates C and everything else is handled by clang+llvm?

From README.md:

>The compiler (not kernel) is 99% AI-written and has not been fully audited yet.

Also, why the compiler is not written against and with LAWS.md so that no audit is required at all?

wg0··on Bend 2 and the Vibe-Coding Trap
Some noteworthy lines from the README.md[0]:

> - The compiler (not kernel) is 99% AI-written and has not been fully audited yet.

> - Strings are linked lists of characters, so text processing is slow.

wg0··on Xiaomi Mimo 2.6 live post-training dashboard
"Stealing millennium problems" would be more complete if not accurate description. And that 99.99% of the market is not interested in solving millennium problems is the other fact.
wg0··on Xiaomi Mimo 2.6 live post-training dashboard
"Slow down this much openness in AI or we won't get our trillion dollars valuations!"

Google had this GPT long go and a wise man within Google noted:

"We don't have any maot neither does anyone else."

The AI bubble burst is guaranteed and is only delayed by IPOs.

wg0··on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash Is Now Our Best Hacking Model
DeepSeek is underrated. Basically all Chinese models are good enough for day to day coding at this point.

The 2 trillion dollar ROI on anthropic alone?

Good luck with that.

wg0··on Introducing System One Models and Jev
But the real problem in self driving isn't the decision making but object description. That is, computer vision if with cameras.

Decision making isn't that of a bottleneck I suppose.

wg0··on Introducing System One Models and Jev
Curious what your use case is if not confidential.
wg0··on Introducing System One Models and Jev
That's good.

Side note - just like most people don't need an intelligent personal assistant to manage and respond their emails and book their flights, most people also don't need smart homes. Century old toggle switches are more than enough in a 3 room apartment or 5 room house unless you have a mention.
