Not sure what's going on here.

Interesting to see Breivik listed though among all the porn.

werid··on Hachette/Amazon Business Interruption
This is a lengthy piece that makes the point that these publishers aren't entirely innocent (there's delays on both sides, and the publishers are owned by some pretty big companies themselves)

werid··on Syncthing: Open Source Dropbox and BitTorrent Sync Replacement
I use dropsync on my phone. I have set up rules to sync screenshots to a different folder from photos, and periodically it will check a folder on dropbox and sync files from it to phone.
werid··on IFTTT launches on Android with deeper integration than on iOS
Looks like a rough launch. When I should have gotten a message that my registration was ok I got a timeout.

Not sure if the app was supposed to ask me more questions after an OK registration, when I tried to re-register and got "this username is taken", I tried to login and that worked. Found myself subscribed to a bunch of semi-random channels.

While exploring tasks, I started getting more timeouts.

werid··on Imgur Raises $40M From Andreessen Horowitz
These days, I goto imgur frontpage to view the gallery, viewing the daily "funnies" is not done via reddit anymore.

My reddit usage is more directly into specific communities, less of the general sub-reddits.

werid··on Popcorn-app no longer on GitHub
He blames the other developers...

> jduncanator (The other dev and the one hosting the site) will have some explanation to do.

werid··on How the Most Expensive Game Jam Crashed And Burned in a Single Day
Now he's unfired, apparently. Perhaps they sensed a shitstorm.

werid··on Dropbox 2048
You can do it via Android apps too, not sure about iOS.
werid··on Google Reader announced its shutdown exactly a year ago
What is this that seems inevitable? You do realize that the graph will spike up again once all those who signed up around the shutdown period (from now until it actually shutdown) renews for another year.

And design, yea, at first glance. Much like some advanced software looks ridiculous at first glance.

I tested a lot of different readers before I eventually ended up at newsblur, am very happy with it.

werid··on Google Reader announced its shutdown exactly a year ago
i subscribe to rss feeds from blogs, newspapers, tumblrs, instagram tags ... and considering adding youtube subscriptions as well.
werid··on How I resurrected my MacBook Pro by putting it in the oven
That sounds like the old harddrive trick where a harddrive refuses to start until it's cold enough.
werid··on This website has a lot of unclosed h3 tags
let me present to you... http://arngren.net/
werid··on German freemail sites trick Firefox and Chrome users into removing AdBlock
Switzerland is in Europe. Are you confusing EU with Europe?
werid··on Google’s Reliability Team Sat Down for an AMA Right Before Gmail Exploded
Technically incorrect, the AMA was announced right before the downtime occured, but answers weren't scheduled until awhile later. A common tactic to let the community post questions and vote on them when there's potential to be quite a few of them.

Four SREs showed up. Two answered 4 questions each, another 8, last one 12.

Pretty poor to be honest.

werid··on “We Just Can’t Have You Here”
> I'm sure it's horrible and humiliating, but a) it's not torture (a word another commenter used), and b) you're admitting known-unstable people into very close quarters with doctors and nurses who will care, feed, and bathe them over the next several days/weeks.

In theory you are right. In reality, you run a huge risk of triggering a bigger problem if the patient have a sexual abuse history.

werid··on Fake Name Generator
The Norwegian name set generates some really strange first names. Plausible surnames though.
werid··on OpenBSD will shut down if we do not have the funding to keep the lights on
Dropping platforms will lose them developers. Developers who also work on the main platforms, or atleast whose work crosses over.
werid··on OpenBSD will shut down if we do not have the funding to keep the lights on
> And at some point in the last 10 years, didn't OpenBSD's distro servers get owned up?

Pretty sure that was a solaris box.

werid··on Norway Rejects Bitcoin As Currency; Taxes As Asset, Instead
You'd have to smuggle it into the country. If you want it to be done legally, you'd have to declare it and pay VAT.
werid··on Everything you need to know to install SteamOS
> this guide is great but it doesn't tell me the most thing I need to know: Why should I install SteamOS?

If you're unable to come up with an answer on your own, the answer is you shouldn't.

werid··on SteamOS: It's here
You mean the game that's in EARLY ACCESS?

You got what you bought there.

werid··on SteamOS: It's here
If you chargeback any online service like this, they will cancel your account. Origin does the same.
werid··on What do YouTube's "Let's Play" Takedowns Mean For Machinima?

werid··on YouTube Blocks Game Videos, Industry Offers Help
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt1ubSVMwaw

In this video, they go in-depth about the different youtube issues going on at the moment, both the recent content-ID massacre, and the new status for network/partners that's coming.

Worth spending time on if you are at all interested in these issues. (Description has shortcuts to the different parts discussed as well, but I recommend watching the entire thing.)

werid··on Microsoft CEO Search: Stalemate

Crossdressing have nothing to do with your sexual identity.

werid··on Automattic sues, strikes back at fraudulent DMCA takedown notices
yes, but they also don't want blogspam, which they can easily classify you as if you don't add anything new to the story (i guess adding your opinion would help, not just quote the original page you're linking to)
