It’s the biggest lie out there that self-fulfillment comes from working.
You can have a rewarding job and still be unhappy, you can have no job at all and be the happiest person out there. Happiness is not one-dimensional...
I still think it's a fascinating topic, anyone got any better recommendations for reading up on this?
I want my desk to be 100% free of clutter and cables and am willing to live with having to recharge devices, paying a premium and am not at all concerned that someone would hack my wireless webcam.
Basically paternity / maternity leave, sick leave, vacation, jury duty, bank holiday, or whatever else is in the company's PTO policy...
This is standard notation, especially in American folk music, that sections are labeled A, B and sometimes C. This makes it very convenient when playing with others who're not familiar with the tune (e.g. This is Kitchen Girl, key of A, two A parts, two B parts)
I would look for companies that describe themselves as:
- Website design agencies
- Creative agencies (look at their webpage if they also have development and not purely design)
- Design & Development agencies
You should be able to find a handful just through a Google Maps search.
Reach out to them and ask if they could use some junior development support, and if there's a particular area they need support in.
I would recommend him taking one or a few bootcamp classes to bring him up to speed, maybe focus on one area in particular (e.g. web development) then find a smaller dev shop where he could come in and support in a junior support role to start with and then take it from there. Maybe develop a few pet projects to build his portfolio in parallel.
It's not impossible but maybe manage his expectations a little bit that he's going to have to start more or less from scratch.
Maybe it’s different where you live?
What we saw was that people tried to spoof their UA only made it more unique. (E.g. your UA says Internet Explorer but you have Chrome specific plugins). Or even worse if you have a completely unique User Agent.
So that means use as much of the standards as possible that comes with the OS. Do not use anything that would not be considered mainstream (e.g. don't be the only person from Guatemala on Opera, Linux, DVORAK Keyboard using an odd screen resolution.)
The absolute hardest thing to create a browser fingerprint on is corporate laptops as they have identical setups!

The way that we viewed it at my previous company was basically it's two different businesses, two different P&L's and two different sets of metrics and KPIs. You could see them as two different business units that can succeed or fail independently.
If one Business Unit is struggling, you can't just fill the holes by taking funds from another BU to fill the gap. You need to solve the inherent profitability problems in the struggling Business Unit in some other way, typically by selling more, increasing the price/mix or reducing the cost.
Don't know if this is how Mozilla reasons, but this was definitely the way we reasoned in the last two large corporations I worked for.
