I am fine with having a lot of options for online education. The biggest question for me is how do you make your child sit in front of the screen at home and pay attention to the class?
Can you guide what your routine is for learning new stuff and staying up to date? How have you managed to work and study to stay relevant and keep up with young people going into the industry every day?
Planting is only effective when trees are nurtured and watered after planting. I have seen too many planting efforts over the years where, after the initial enthusiasm, there is no care for the saplings and they die off only for people to lament and blame the government.
Sure....Chinese government gets the money by selling the medicine without investing in the research. That's cheating. And you really think cancer patients will get benefits without paying for an arm and leg?
"In April, three researchers were also let go by the University of Texas’s M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in connection with an investigation into possible foreign attempts to take advantage of its federally funded research." This is the real reason why visas are getting denied. Why would you want to enjoy the fruits of living and working in America but benefit other countries (even if you once belonged there)?
As long as science continues to be funded by corporations, we will always have this problem of getting results biased towards the corporations. I wonder what else can be used to fund scientific research if not the government?
One major hurdle that I face regularly when something is broken is getting the tools I need to fix it. Buying tools that I may not need for another 5 years and won't likely be used anywhere else just does not make any sense to my mind even though replacing the device will be likelier more expensive. Also, there aren't guides to repair all devices/equipment online. If I open it, I am afraid I won't be able to put it back together. I love the idea of Repair cafe and would likely make a few visits if there is one nearby. (Any repair cafes in NYC?)
Also, "fake it until you make it" might work for photo sharing apps and such but it should never be the case when human health is involved. Holmes and people around her were no other than quacks who promised the world to whoever they met.
Are you sure it will be sustainable for feeding ~8 billion people (Yes, I am talking about the world in general)? Agriculture also creates ecosystem needed to sustain the planet. Not just feed people.
>> There is an assumption that the education system currently is in 'mess'. That is not true.
Oh please stop with that attitude. You must have gone to a good private school with good teachers and expensive tuition classes after school to get to where you are today. Just look at the schools that economically backward children go to today and try taking their classes. This comes from someone who has personally gone to some classes in those schools (especially in rural areas). Ground reality is that the education system is really a mess. This is not an assumption.
These people can talk whatever they want...does not mean that government is out to eliminate everyone else who is not Hindu. If they had influence, we would have seen this happen a long time ago. Indian society is maturing faster than any news article can summarize. Common people in India are too busy feeding their families now than to think of where they came from.
"Most farms lands are owned by a few families and the remaining people just slave around on that".
I wonder how you came to this conclusion. In fact, farming in India is very fragmented. Lot of farmers or people in rural areas own very small parcels of land and work on them. Yes, there are people or families which own large pieces of agricultural land, but not in the numbers that you seem to imply.
Also, lack of manpower for working on farms is a very real problem in India. Farming jobs still exist at a big scale in India because we don't have mechanization like western countries(Again because of fragmentation of farms). People are not willing to "slave around" in farms anymore because they get subsidies from government i.e. food at very low cost for people below BPL. And it is very easy to get a BPL card if you live in rural area. This comes from someone(me) who has worked and been around farms and is still involved in farming though not directly on a day to day basis.
I am getting promoted from QA Automation Engineer to Full time Software Engineer position starting in January 2017. Counting as an achievement in 2016 because it was just confirmed yesterday.
Small farmers are always just on the edge of poverty. I know this first hand since my parents own a farm (~3 acres and not in the US) and don't generate enough revenue to even get to a point of breaking even. The equipment, water, fertilizers, pesticides always have to be paid for regardless of whether you get a good crop or not. Add nature's whim on top of that too and you will see why small farmers are disappearing from the map.
It is not a bubble. In fact, India's startup culture has emerged at the very right moment as more and more people are getting aware and connected to internet. And considering lack of technology companies in consumer sector except IT services firms, India's startups like FlipKart, Housing.com, etc have found the perfect timing to come up.
For people from some countries like India and China, the wait after finding an employer willing to sponsor green card is still a big killer. Typically people have to wait for 6-7 years now to get green card after first filing it. While I agree with the author, I feel he did not try to find someone willing to sponsor his green card with other employers. If your employer does not respond favorably to your requests about sponsoring your green card, find another employer willing to sponsor it while you still have time left on your current visa. And since the author is from NZ, it would not have taken him more than a year to get his green card had he found someone willing to sponsor him.
From my personal experience, I agree on the stress caused by uncivil workspace...especially if the boss is uncivil. I used to get thoughts of suicide when I was working for a boss in a job right out of college and my health declined a lot. It was not until I changed my job that I saw a huge difference in civil and uncivil workspace and its effect on life.
No. These are used only by so called consultancies who pay the employees a pittance and extract cheap labor from them. Under no circumstances should anyone go with this option because if you leave them...they sue you for thousands of dollars.
