waithuh··on They didn’t ask to go viral
my HN client doesnt have notifications. You havent been to 'every corner of Reddit' if you are making this claim. Especially around the 2016-2018 mark, there used to be horrible subs. The far lefters overtook (mostly), for sure, but Reddit used to be (maybe still is, i dont know) the front for recruiting new misguided teens for those forums you mentioned.
waithuh··on We are all animals at night
The people that "call the shots, outearn and get credit for other peoples work" want this polarization between men and women. While i dont think the approach in this article is no where near great, bluntly disagreeing is no better either. Maybe 'life' wouldnt be so 'selfish' if everyone realized that sometimes you need to support one another to get your own way.
waithuh··on The antitrust trial against Google is starting in September
Why do you think that Apple doesnt do that?
waithuh··on They didn’t ask to go viral
Reddit has a far everything. From tankies in denial to straight up Nazis, Admins do nothing with both sides. I used to like the libertarian approach (except the borderline/straight up cp subs...) but it is evident that they dont do anything except punishing their own community and censoring what they dont like because of being understaffed and underqualified rather than sacrificing on advertising revenue for the sake of liberty and pulling users that way.
waithuh··on Judge clears way for DOJ’s big case against Google to go to trial
In my honest opinion, not defending Google (nor do i have any relation to them), they are just pulling the ol' Google+ tactic. Instead of the search engine doing search engine things it goes on to aggressively advertise Google products upon detecting some keywords. Im purely speculating and recalling here though, it wouldnt be a surprising move from Google if they did that.
waithuh··on Google Invites Employees to Sleep 'On Campus' for a Fee
Yeah maybe people should stick to calling it Twitter. X sounds dystopian.

with showers, you say?
waithuh··on Exploiting a Flaw in Bitmap Handling in Windows User-Mode Printer Drivers
I think there is browser extension potential in here. Would it be profitable, thats the question (and the answer is most likely no)
waithuh··on Brave Search launches own image and video search
Out of curiosity, if you dont want to be 'tied to the larger players', why not use metasearch engines like SearX? If Google does not have a great answer, Bing does, or Mojeek.
waithuh··on Brave Search launches own image and video search
Heavily disagree. I own the server, thus the website. I should be able to allow or disallow any type of web crawler/scraper i want. Similar to how you cant easily regulate whats in a website without lawsuits and takedowns, you cant regulate how discoverable a website is.
waithuh··on Brave Search launches own image and video search
If the website owner wants google to own the web, they should be able to restrict their website. Nothing wrong with that.
waithuh··on AWS to begin charging for public IPv4 addresses
That YouTube channel that pumps out a 'US is going down' video every other month, of course.
waithuh··on AWS to begin charging for public IPv4 addresses
damn, imagine if the buddies of the company that owns all of these IPs operated that system. The entire internet would be in their control. Wild dream.
waithuh··on Hackers manage to unlock Tesla software-locked features
This all boils down to the contract, really. If the contract states that you do not own the heated seats, you have to pay for them. You can't skip reading the contract and say that you own the entire car now.

Not saying that BMW is in the right. Hell yeah they are extracting every penny they can, but you can simply protest by not buying from them. People support their decisions by buying their products and complain afterwards. There are many alternatives.

waithuh··on CodeCov is now Open Source
They are making an effort though. Public-available code and open source go hand in hand, even if they have overwhelmingly different principles.

They, as a business, found it more advantageous to make their product available to the public. There are of course business interests rooted in it, (like ending support for their paid product, or gaining free publicity/more sponsorships) but shooing away acts like these just make going open source all around a worse business choice.

waithuh··on Does Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 DNS Block Archive.is? (2019)
While archive.is' reaction is questionable (and even then, its their own server and can do whatever they want with it) this blog post is throughout Cloudflare advertising. The CEO used the scenario to their advantage very cleverly, but this blog post could describe all of that without constantly reminding how wonderful CF is.
waithuh··on Transform your Android device into a Linux desktop
Have you checked https://archive.org
waithuh··on Ask HN: Git, JavaScript, Chrome, Redis etc. what next?
Also, there are multiple solutions to a lot of problems. You dont need to be the only solution to a problem, you just need to be the best one.
waithuh··on Show HN: Local development with .local domains and HTTPS
Risky target audience. Maybe useful for people that hop networks regularly.
waithuh··on Show HN: Local development with .local domains and HTTPS
Maybe its just to avoid browsers nagging and blocking you from using certain APIs that require a "Secure Context (https)"
waithuh··on How to get ChatGPT to stop apologizing?
Well you can give it the same prompt over and over again, but that would also erase the AI's experience from your previous questions. Nobody is stopping you from feeding it your chat data as well, though (that being said im not sure how much of an effect it would have in a typical astronomically huge dataset)
waithuh··on Meta forced to reveal anonymous Facebook user's identity
You need a few million and some vacations to ignore the law. $100k is just the initial fee and timeslot for potentially pulling out of said country (or do what Apple is doing with the UK)
waithuh··on The death of privacy front ends?
I think HN took the site down? While i understand the pain, i think a little bit of a surge shouldnt be able to take down a public instance host. Another reason, perhaps?
waithuh··on Snowflake
I love how your arguments against anything you dislike but should be legal because of personal freedom (gambling, crypto) is simply a teenager ranting.
