vuyani··on Ask HN: What to do when a lazy programmer is ruining the teams motivation
Valid points. He is a very capable programmer and the work is definitely not boring. His team mates think he threw his toys out the cot because he did not agree with using a particular technology going forward. So now instead of helping write the code, he chooses to do small tasks that he sits on for weeks and months. Really, this is also a failure on management. Managers should know how much work load he has and when he should realistically be able to finish it. But they haven't paid attention to that, so he gets to sit on these tasks for the longest time.

For example. He decided to build a date-picker from scratch for no apparent reason, when there are a trillion jquery, bootstrap date-pickers available. It took him 3 months just to do this, Now he has said he is gonna work on CSS clean up and re-styling all the validation errors, its been 3 weeks of him doing this.

He is the senior dev in his pod. So when theres demos, he's the one that talks and includes himself on features that they rolling out as a "team" effort when he hasn't written a single line of code on it.

most "good" points you mentioned there about recruiters code can replicate.

They do a lot of leg work for you

- simple stats and analysis

They have access to many openings that aren't public.

- This is just companies choosing their preferred recruiters in a fragmented industry. A solid platform would solve this

And they can convince good companies to create an opening for you if you would fit really well with the company

- I dont see code doing this. But how often does this happen though?

I get to send my resume to a few recruiters and they call me with all the openings that fit my skill set and i would be interested in.

- Not sure why you think this is exclusive to recruiters. Isnt this just another way of describing filters on a recruitment website?

.They make looking for a new position so much easier. Often they work in teams so you get multiple people doing this for you at the same time. Plus you build a relationship with them, their team, and the company so you with them better next time too.

- Its not hard to code something that can achieve this. Even saw a post here on HN about a site that can mass apply for jobs for you. Could make it a little more intelligent so it learns which jobs you prefer.

vuyani··on Attempt to Reverse a $55 Million Ether Heist
but the core difference here is there is no precedence set. Especially since classics core belief is immutable transactions. As long as the community has that integrity. Then its safe. but ultimately. It is a consensus based system. So its not to say its not impossible
vuyani··on Attempt to Reverse a $55 Million Ether Heist
It still and will always be. They have set a dangerous precedence. If another group of large developers decide to revert a certain transaction. They could. The one platform that still has its integrity is ethereum classic
vuyani··on Attempt to Reverse a $55 Million Ether Heist
Solidity is a contract-oriented, high-level language whose syntax is similar to that of JavaScript and it is designed to target the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

hmm true. Maybe smart contracts also need a good old fashioned terms & conditions signed. At least that protects against unknown bugs and exploits?

What would you rather have them show then? Building a culture is not manufacturing a cult. But more of an atmosphere you feel would best serve the company. Showing images like the one you posted is not brain washing people. Its advertisement of the company and its brand. How many people do you think would sign up to work at a company thats dull and gloomy?
vuyani··on Ask HN: How do you charge clients for hosting their mobile backend?
Thanks for that advice man. I shall do exactly that
vuyani··on A response to “Why you can't be a good .NET developer” (2016)
The original author missed a vital viewpoint. He assumed that .net developers would never be good because they reluctant to try new technologies. He then evaluates that as a bad thing. Thats not quite so. This is a testament to how good and mature Microsofts ecosystem is, and the benefits thereof. In business sense. It doesn't make sense to hire a pool of developers who are good at various cutting edge technologies when the current stack can cater for all business needs. Most .net shops are enterprises which have no need for cutting edge technology. In my opinion, that conclusion should then lead to, should we rather not ask "what makes a good developer?". Theres no simple answer. Example, to a business that employees you to ship code, and you constantly maintain good quality and meeting deliverables. Would that not be considered a good developer?

Honest question, are you a software developer?

Wonder how did you get your app review approved with screenshot demo text such as "appStoreTestApp"

But anyways. You might have a good idea, but that app doesnt do it justice. Poorly designed and implemented. Also, one screenshot?!?
