vuldin··on America.gov
... unless it doesn't really even do anything and is just a placebo.
vuldin··on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash
DSH also includes a TUI (but I have not used it yet). It's in heavy development also, so there are new versions almost daily.
vuldin··on Friendica – A Decentralized Social Network
I was really interested in this when it first came out years ago. I was also a heavy social media user and it was amazing to have a tool that allowed you to own your data and then share with various other closed social media platforms as or if you like. This idea is still amazing today, although I've lost interest in social media platforms generally (so don't have as much of a need for this awesome tool).
vuldin··on The Future of AI Software Development
I agree with this statement. Kimi K2.5 is at least as good as the best closed source models today for my purposes. I've switched from Claude Code w/ Opus 4.5 to OpenCode w/ Kimi K2.5 provided by Fireworks AI. I never run into time-based limits, whereas before I was running into daily/hourly/weekly/monthly limits all the time. And I'm paying a fraction of what Anthropic was charging (from well over $100 per month to less than $50 per month).
vuldin··on Kimi Released Kimi K2.5, Open-Source Visual SOTA-Agentic Model
Anecdotally, I've cancelled my Claude Code subscription after using Kimi K2.5 and Kimi CLI for the last few days. It's handled everything I've thrown at it. It is slower at the moment, but I expect that will improve.
vuldin··on Microsoft to Get 27% of OpenAI, Access to AI Models Until 2032
Does Microsoft get 27% of the debt?
vuldin··on Personal data storage is an idea whose time has come
IPFS and Filecoin exist to solve this problem.

vuldin··on Toronto’s network of pedestrian tunnels
This is an awesome resource for Toronto, and a good depiction of it. But at first glance this looks to be incomplete. For instance the Ritz Carlton actually connects to 200 Wellington West.
vuldin··on Steam games will need to disclose kernel-level anti-cheat on store pages

vuldin··on Show HN: NotesHub: cross-platform, Markdown-based note-taking app
This looks good, but in order for me to try this it would need vi support and a Linux install option.
vuldin··on Texas A&M suspended professor accused of criticizing Lt. Gov. Patrick in lecture
The fact that they chose to suspend the professor as an initial step is still an issue.
vuldin··on Twitter Fails in the Browser
What a dumpster fire. I feel for all affected employees (former and soon-to-be former).
vuldin··on AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs Reportedly Run Hot
You very likely have a cooling system issue. Normal temps should be closer to half that (~50c). Of course it depends on ambient temps and if you are overclocking, but 100c is not anywhere near normal.
vuldin··on Ask HN: Recommendation for high refresh rate, premium, non-gaming Monitor?
There are several good recommendations (along with analysis and reasons) from the latest Hardware Unboxed video. This channel does a great job on all their hardware reviews, but they are the best when it comes to their display reviews. The video in the link below focuses on the best 4K displays as of April:

vuldin··on Locked out of 'God Mode', runners are hacking their treadmills
This is great, thanks for posting this site. I am one of those who bought this awesome treadmill for several reasons, including to watch netflix and plex. It's been frustrating not being able to easily do this... I have just been listening to podcasts from my phone.
vuldin··on New Evidence Against the Standard Model of Cosmology
She's discussing findings that come from papers written by other scientists, so she is obviously not a lone wolf.
vuldin··on Amtrak might add more routes, but they won't be faster than a car
This is not a problem inherent to rail systems or travel. This is a symptom of the poor state of the US rail system.
vuldin··on SnakeOS: Bootable x86 snake game in Rust
I didn't take this comment as derogatory. Instead I see it as a good comment explaining that this example is much more than just "a program that executes at startup"... as it seems some people may have initially thought when glancing at only the start of the github readme page.
vuldin··on ‘Great Resignation’ gains steam as return-to-work plans take effect
Many look at this current situation and draw conclusions around how much office-centered work employees are willing to put up with, which is great. But others are looking at this as an opportunity... workers leaving companies means openings at those companies.
vuldin··on Modular Homes for Under $50k
I was totally about to agree with your post based on the first part (needing a better way to distribute land). But I don't feel that idea and the idea of prefab homes are mutually exclusive.
vuldin··on Show HN: Learn a new language while you browse the web
Looks awesome! But site doesn't work well in Firefox nor on mobile.
vuldin··on 64% would prefer to permanently WFH rather than get a $30k-a-year raise
I am not one of these people. I miss going into work and seeing people in person. I left my previous awesome job when I moved from Toronto because I decided I would find whatever developer job I could find in the town I was moving to rather than work remotely (that was before the pandemic). Now I'm at a job that will eventually be in the office, and also has traveling to customer sites built in, and I can't wait until that starts up.
vuldin··on Tesla Makes More Money Trading Bitcoin Than Selling Cars
They also make much of their profits from selling emission credits to other car manufacturers:

vuldin··on Show HN: VOTEism – Secure political opinion poll app
This reminds me of Democracy Earth. I like how Democracy Earth takes into account the concept of liquid democracy, where people can vote through nominating a trusted person they feel is more suited than they are to make what they feel is the right decision. This representative vote is an option to take on a vote-by-vote basis.

vuldin··on Coronavirus will end the golden age for college towns
I don't see this at all. Bryan/College Station exist entirely because of A&M, and these towns would do the same as almost every other small town in that area if it weren't for A&M.
vuldin··on OrbitDB: Peer-to-peer databases for the decentralized web
OrbitDB is one of the key dependencies in 3box, an awesome tool for building decentralized apps where the user controls their own data. https://3box.io/
vuldin··on Sequoia gives away $21M investment in Finix as it walks away from deal
That site is one of the most annoying ones I've been to in a while. It makes me agree to their tracking, and if I want to customize what trackers I allow then I have to click on each individual tracker from a list of around 20 or so to go to their site and disallow. There's not a chance I'll be going through that much work to look at that site.
vuldin··on DOJ plans to strike against encryption while the Techlash iron is hot
Similar but different anecdote. I installed i2p the other day to see what had changed/improved over the last year, and mentioned to my 12yo son that I had done this. He asked what i2p was, and I said it was the dark web. He immediately thought he knew what this is, and asked "aren't you worried about getting in trouble because it's illegal?"
vuldin··on A video game that lets you make video games
Some other comments here make the assumption that Dreams is like Roblox or Minecraft. But from what I can see it is way more than those games, and a person should be able to tell that without even playing the game. You can watch videos of the content people are creating within Dreams and see just how varied this is in comparison to other tools.
vuldin··on Ask HN: How do we stop the polarization/toxicicity filling the web?
Another related (possibly identical) question: How do we stop polarization/toxicity (or general negative attitude) IRL?

One possible answer: Disconnect, ignore, and avoid it while at the same gravitate towards positive, solution-oriented actions/people.

Stop banging your head against the wall, it's not going to work.
