vpribish··on Cybertrucks Are Deadlier Than Infamous Ford Pintos
motherjones is not a credible source of analysis and they are reposting from a blog that has "hot takes" in its mission statement.

You got the basic physics, but don't you think they have considered these issues? It's why this is interesting at all : despite the very obvious difficulties they think this has a case.
vpribish··on Boom XB-1 First Supersonic Flight [video]

vpribish··on Javier Milei: "My contempt for the state is infinite"
I agree with what you say, but it's funny that I can't tell if we have the same reasoning :)

Their supporters don't know or care much about economics but sure like a brash-sounding contrarian strongman leader who appeals to their insecurities. They don't mind a touch of the 'ascism since the leopard surly won't be coming for their sort of face.

vpribish··on A Bendy RISC-V Processor
"a small, but real, niche" - is it though?

It's been an intriguing notion since the time of the dinosaurs, but what is an actual problem that it solves? I've never seen any textile electronics that delivered more than a novelty.

vpribish··on Detailed Map of Cancer-Causing Industrial Air Pollution in the U.S.
this is not about the climate, why are you even bringing that up?
vpribish··on MIT engineers design tiny batteries for powering cell-sized robots
Headline like this are what is eroding MIT's reputation. They have overhyped things so many times that I actively avoid reading anything they put out.
vpribish··on Zany ideas to slow polar melting are gathering momentum
Cynical and ignorant is just the worst combination.

We are doing a lot - all of California runs on solar for a few hours every day and no coal plants are being built.

Nihilism is pathetic.

vpribish··on Double-entry bookkeeping as a directed graph
this is probably not true, but I heard that this stuff predates the idea of negative numbers so you have db and cr accounts that offset each other without negatives.
vpribish··on Science fiction and the death of the sun
it's a movie. they wanted, like, human drama which is substantially more difficult if the main character is not alive.

vpribish··on Is the Sun Conscious? (2021) [pdf]
sun-moon carry trade is an old theorbitrageur trick, nothing new here.
vpribish··on What Boeing did to all the guys who remember how to build a plane
they did not. this article and many people are sensationalizing it to get attention and push whatever their angle is. it was short-sighted, stupid, greedy, and wrong, but not intentionally suicidal (let alone homicidal!).
vpribish··on Boom announces successful flight of XB-1 demonstrator aircraft
it's just supersonic, hypersonics is not involved
vpribish··on Flemish Proverbs by Jan Wierix (ca. 1568)
so it's a visual pun that only makes sense in Dutch/Flemish. this is excellent!
vpribish··on Nanofont3x4: Smallest readable 3x4 font with lowercase (2015)
if more than one bit of color was allowed you could make different levels of grey/opacity hint at where the opening in the symbol should be. just as learnable and now it's unique.

taken to a silly extreme, you could compress 26 letters into 2 pixels, 3 colors, and 3 levels of opacity. before even considering a time-dimension.

a mantis shrimp just needs one pixel with color.

vpribish··on Rye Grows with UV
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

WTF‽ no fucking way. I really wanted to hear about unusual photosynthesis in grain but it's a goddamn wordsquat software cutebag! I'm seething.
