vonneumannstan··on Human mathematicians are being outcounterexampled
>Then where do new ideas come from? Do the muses bestow divine creativity upon artists, poets, and musicians?

Apparently thats what you believe if you think "creative" ideas just float into brains somehow.

vonneumannstan··on Human mathematicians are being outcounterexampled
>GenAI is great at combining existing things in new ways (interpolation). It's terrible at creating new things from scratch (extrapolation).

I think you believe a fallacy about how human cognition works if you think we actually do something different than interpolation

vonneumannstan··on Qwen-Image-3.0: Rich Content, Authentic Details, Deep Knowledge
Short answer yes.

Slightly longer answer for older text to image models you teach them how to encode images and text into the same latent space. Then you simply do a conversion, take a text input, put it into latent space and then extract the image that latent space represents.

vonneumannstan··on Kimi K3: Open Frontier Intelligence
If your entire competitive advantage is copying your rival's better product and not making any true innovation or improvement and only delivering a slightly worse product its little different than cheating, yes.

>Distillation is not cheating

Blatantly against ToS of any of the major labs hence their efforts to prevent it.

Not saying you are actually a Chinese astroturfer but this is essentially exactly what I would expect one to be saying.

How Xi coded. If you just cheat off the top student in your class that's simply a way to get a good GPA.
vonneumannstan··on Why write code in 2026
Arrogance, vanity, ignorance... etc.
vonneumannstan··on Fable 5 is Back
You can assume they're more or less co-opted by the CCCP so how much do you trust Xi? Mistral isn't even a real player.
vonneumannstan··on Orbital Data Centers: Why the Hype Outpaces Reality
>Data Centers in Space are a practical engineering impossibility,

Not really, thermal radiators are well understood and the size needed aren't really that unreasonable. Radiation hardening the GPUs is probably the single hardest problem along with actual launch costs.

>making no economic sense

Yes this is the real issue, Spacex would need to reduce the cost of launches by ~10x with Starship for it to ever be viable.

vonneumannstan··on Fable 5 is Back
Its like saying Pinochet was one of the least murderous authoritarian dictators. The bar is low...
vonneumannstan··on U.S. government will decide who gets to use GPT-5.6
>And the jets is a terrible example - you picked one of THE highest regulated industries where NOBODY has a problem with regulation

The potential risk from serious AI disasters far far outweighs anything the Airline industry has ever done. Like its a joke that I even have to invoke that in the first place.

vonneumannstan··on U.S. government will decide who gets to use GPT-5.6
Ah yes all regulation is actually just performative and for capture. Give me a break.
vonneumannstan··on Reid Hoffman says SpaceX 'not an AI company', xAI 'complete train wreck'
Not blaming anyone just pointing out how the idea that that generation is actually focused on living more meaningfully is farcical.

vonneumannstan··on There is minimal downside to switching to open models
Lol what performative shite. Chinese astroturfing 101. You're either mentally ill or a shill.
vonneumannstan··on Stanford grads walk out on Google CEO Sundar Pichai speech
90% of them would take an APM position at Google in a heartbeat. This is totally performative.
vonneumannstan··on Why AI hasn't replaced software engineers, and won't
"No you see I'm a special SWE, I'm not one of the 80% that will get automated!"
vonneumannstan··on The Case for Free Online Books (2014)
The market will reward colleges for layoffs?
vonneumannstan··on The Case for Free Online Books (2014)
Perhaps you fail to see how this would probably lead to textbooks costing even more and which will be directly passed to students as higher tuition?

vonneumannstan··on The Case for Free Online Books (2014)
So you're saying colleges will just increase tuition to cover the cost of textbooks right?
vonneumannstan··on Failing grades soar with AI usage, dwindling math skills in Berkeley CS classes
>Of course, none of this scales. Some of our intro courses have a thousand students.

Any ideas are much appreciated.

Oral exams graded by LLMs? Scale with the improving models. Based on GPQA Diamond results they're mostly at PhD level for subject trivia anyway.

vonneumannstan··on Artificial intelligence is not conscious – Ted Chiang
You don't need to read this to know it's wrong. Ted Chiang hasn't solved the hard problem so he can't say that anything is conscious or not. I'm a big fan of his sci-fi but his bold pronouncements about AI are pretty flimsy and are a pretty bad look for him imo.
vonneumannstan··on AI outperforms law professors in Stanford Law study
This is kind of like saying you can't compare Computer Vision models to Human performance because those models were literally trained to identify objects in images...
vonneumannstan··on MCP is dead?
MCP will die for the same reason RAG died and why prompt engineering is dying. The models get better at understanding what you want and where to find the right tool or context to solve the problem on their own.
vonneumannstan··on WH proposes rules giving political appointees final approval on research grants
You mean Vaccine researchers? Or renewable energy researchers?
vonneumannstan··on I think Anthropic and OpenAI have found product-market fit
HN is the least agi-pilled place on the internet
vonneumannstan··on Ferrari Luce
Seems obvious that this was his failed Apple Car design. Completely out of touch for Ferrari. It's going to be a major flop...
vonneumannstan··on What we lost when we stopped letting kids leave the front yard
>Maybe I was lucky to not get severely injured or abducted,

You fell for the trap that caused this whole issue, you were about as likely to get abducted as struck by lightning.

vonneumannstan··on MIT: 20% drop in incoming graduate students
>Probably 80% of the recent PhD grads I know are looking to leave academia, despite the fact that they went into it to pursue a career in academia.

Sad if true, they should have known that was a long shot, it's extremely well known that the number of postdoc and tenure track openings in any given year is far exceeded by the number of PhD grads each year.

vonneumannstan··on AlphaEvolve: Gemini-powered coding agent scaling impact across fields
Long-term planning, context poisoning, task length reliability, etc. Improving all the time but certainly still constraints.
