vonneumannstan··on Questions for Believers in AI Consciousness
Can you even define what a dream is and where your line is for what things definitely don't or do have dreams? There are conditions like Charcot-Wilbrand syndrome which cause people to be unable to dream. Are they no longer conscious?
vonneumannstan··on Questions for Believers in AI Consciousness
Can you name some? I think youve created a type of strawman here because almost no one actually believes current models are definitely conscious and all of the current discussion is from things like what Anthropic are saying which is that they might be or might one day be.
vonneumannstan··on Questions for believers in AI consciousness
>A better question is why we care.

Because if AIs are conscious then they have moral weight and subjecting them to suffering would be quite bad.

vonneumannstan··on Questions for believers in AI consciousness
>AI might be conscious now or in the future and this should be taken seriously

This is the only defensible position. Anyone claiming a definite answer one way or the other should show us their Theory of Consciousness which shows why it is the case. Of course no such theory exists that can actually do this so...

vonneumannstan··on Questions for Believers in AI Consciousness
Anyone claiming that AI definitely isn't conscious or can't ever be conscious is either stupid or untrustworthy.
vonneumannstan··on Memory executives expect RAM shortage to continue through 2028
This is driven by AI and at a certain point you just need a minimum amount of memory to load all the floating points representing Neural Net weights.
vonneumannstan··on I Could've Accessed 17T Microsoft Records
Weird user preferences during RLHF. Also how we got bulleted lists and emojis everywhere.
vonneumannstan··on What will our economic future look like?
Used in what way though. Obviously using them to do your homework and doing nothing on your own will hurt your learning.
vonneumannstan··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
And yet the best humans could not use that same available data to solve the problems.
vonneumannstan··on Detecting and countering misuse of AI: September 2026
>a majority of people here go "huh i guess so"

Feels more like a majority goes "just unplug it hurr durr"

vonneumannstan··on I resigned from Anthropic today
More and more complex and dangerous tasks every day.
vonneumannstan··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
>You cannot risk companies like Anthropic, OpenAI or their business partners like Microsoft having unfettered access to proprietary data on your company/businesses.

You do realize that businesses that have contracts with them can specify if they want their data used for training or not right?

vonneumannstan··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
Theres a reason those same mathematicians did not solve the problem on their own. Minimizing the impact the model made here seems unjustified.
vonneumannstan··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
If this were the case the problem would not have remained unsolved for this long. A new spell checker is not what cracked the problem.
vonneumannstan··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
This doesn't follow for me. There are what, Dozens or Erdos tier problems that got solved with no progress for decades? How does that factor in to your view?
vonneumannstan··on I resigned from Anthropic today
You are wrong. A teenager with enough GPUs could never dream of making a nuke but they are absolutely able to run capable AIs in their moms basement. Totally different class of danger
vonneumannstan··on I resigned from Anthropic today
>People claiming dangers and risk are just pretending or posturing. I believe you are mentally ill.

>There's no more tangible risk than nuclear weapons, which we handled

Lol way to rewrite history. Nuclear armageddon is still a significant risk...

vonneumannstan··on OpenAI begins rolling out GPT-6 Astra
Then why are we arguing? I agree with you, I'm highlighting the fact that people making light of the technology is dangerous
vonneumannstan··on OpenAI begins rolling out GPT-6 Astra
You have blinders on. AI is becoming more dangerous by the day.
vonneumannstan··on OpenAI begins rolling out GPT-6 Astra
I don't think they were joking.
vonneumannstan··on OpenAI begins rolling out GPT-6 Astra
Honestly I find these cavalier statements to be in incredibly poor taste. Unless you are completely blind it's obvious that AI is the most significant piece of technology invented since the Atomic Bomb and could very well be the most important thing ever built by Humans full stop. This kind of dismissive attitude is childish and will likely lead to incredibly bad outcomes for humanity.
vonneumannstan··on The turbulent AI era is here
The economy is already largely propped up by spending from the wealthiest decile.
vonneumannstan··on The turbulent AI era is here
>(SOMEHOW! I guess we forgot about Sora already)

Yes if theres one thing we know about Chips and AI its that the price of equivalent performance literally never decreases...

vonneumannstan··on The turbulent AI era is here
I think he's literally conceding your point by writing this essay. That there will be massive upheaval and yes maybe pitchforks if we don't get ahead of the problems.
vonneumannstan··on Aphantasia Beginner's Guide
Only a P-zombie would say this.
vonneumannstan··on Aphantasia Beginner's Guide
Yes thats exactly what a P-zombie would say.
vonneumannstan··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
Jevons Paradox says no. Even more "efficient" models will increase overall GPU demand and be good for NVIDIA.
vonneumannstan··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
"If you don't understand that the AI driven memory boom has totally broken the cycle you are going to lose a lot of money."
vonneumannstan··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
If you don't understand that the AI driven memory boom has totally broken the cycle you are going to lose a lot of money. There is infinite demand for Intelligence and that translates directly to chips.
vonneumannstan··on Apple's App Tracking Transparency treated its own apps better than rivals
Which essentially makes the phone a brick and unusable for 99% of consumers. Average users don't care about your weird esoteric privacy and security concerns.
