vnglst··on Smugmug Acquires Flickr
I’ve paid for a Flickr Pro account for several years, it wasn’t a free-product to begin with.
vnglst··on Clojure Design Patterns
Doesn’t the Clojure way of thinking/programming help you with writing better JavaScript though? I’m a JS Dev and I’ve been looking into Clojurescript to broaden my horizon but I’m also hoping to learn some FP techniques that I can use in my Node/React projects.

Nice work, I like it!!

vnglst··on Are Hunter-Gatherers The Happiest Humans To Inhabit Earth?
I agree, it's better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a pig satisfied.

vnglst··on Universal Now: Now, on Every Cloud
Did not know that! That might explain some of the sharpness of his criticism
vnglst··on Universal Now: Now, on Every Cloud
Agreed, bit of a disappointment coming from someone I respect a lot for all his open source contributions
vnglst··on Universal Now: Now, on Every Cloud
Yes and he was not amused, to put it mildly, just have a look at some of his tweets: https://mobile.twitter.com/tjholowaychuk/status/885580704037...

Oh my, yes that's what I meant!

I'm guessing here: With const there's always the disccusion about consts not being constant, e.g. when referencing an array or object (reference itself is constant). With "val" you don't have that confusion?
vnglst··on Ask HN: Would it be feasible to send a Curiosity-like rover to an exoplanet?
Thanks for your answers David! Too bad it's not feasible yet.
vnglst··on Ask HN: Would it be feasible to send a Curiosity-like rover to an exoplanet?
And using nuclear energy, why wouldn't it be possible to accelerate to, say, 50% of light speed?

The acceleration itself wouldn't be too bad:

299792458 m/s / 2 = 149896229 m/s

In 10 years that would be: 149896229 m/s / 10 y / 365 d / 24 h / 60 m / 60 s = 0.475 m/s2

Why wouldn't the probe be able to send us any kind of signal? Would it be too weak to get here? And what if we were to point a super sensitive telescope to it?
vnglst··on Whonix – A desktop operating system designed for advanced security and privacy
Would it be possible/make sense to use Docker for this?

Using something like Whalebrew? https://github.com/bfirsh/whalebrew

Very cool! Simple and you even thought of a way to earn some money with it. Hope this kind of creativity gets rewarded!
vnglst··on Show HN: Boilerplate for Node.js and TypeScript with Jest tests
Awesome, thanks!
vnglst··on Show HN: Boilerplate for Node.js and TypeScript with Jest tests
Question for the poster: any general thoughts on why you chose TypeScript instead of Flow Type?
vnglst··on Show HN: Boilerplate for Node.js and TypeScript with Jest tests
Yes, I think even more so now with the Node Foundation and support for all modern JS syntax (ES6 and beyond). It's being used by mayor players (LinkeIn, Netflix, Medium and Uber to name a few) but also smaller companies (from my personal experience as a freelance developer).

PS Assuming that by web app you mean "the backend for web apps". Otherwise Node would be used 'just' for the build process, together with Webpack and friends.

"Unit tests in JavaScript

Writing unit tests in TypeScript can sometimes be troublesome and confusing. Especially when mocking dependencies and using spies."

Anybody know why unit tests are difficult in TypeScript?

vnglst··on Leonardo Da Vinci’s To Do List (circa 1490)
And remember that paper was extremely expensive for ordinary people back then. Using it for something silly as a todo list seems as wastefull as using a JavaScript framework for just a todo app. ;)
vnglst··on Hyper 1.0.0
These are release notes so don't expect a project description there. And I think the gif on the homepage makes it perfectly clear (to me at least).
vnglst··on Show HN: Creating beautiful letters using a web form and LaTeX
Doing that for the resume template would be the next step. Would be more difficult though, since you want them to be customizable.
vnglst··on Show HN: Creating beautiful letters using a web form and LaTeX
You're right, thanks for the heads up. Pandoc crashes if one of the fields is empty. Will look into it!

Thanks, glad to hear it!
