vmladenov··on Siri AI
It goes in the “View History” section of a password entry, with an option in the 3-dot menu for “Clear History”. Not sure how long this is kept
vmladenov··on The day Return became Enter (2023)
It was one of the things I found amusing my first time using OS X after growing up on Windows. Enter would “enter” a folder or execute a program, while Return in Finder starts renaming the file.
vmladenov··on Electricity prices are climbing more than twice as fast as inflation
So separate the interconnect fee from the energy unit price.
vmladenov··on Bypassing Google's big anti-adblock update
How do multi-account containers differ from Chrome profiles? I hadn't paid much attention to Firefox outside of Linux installs as I mainly use Safari with Chrome as a backup, but I'm interested to try again.
vmladenov··on Marble Blast
My friend had Ultra on his Xbox 360 some 15 years ago and I instantly fell in love. Thank you for making another entry
vmladenov··on The Llama 4 herd
When I replied, the comment said "Americans", per the edit
vmladenov··on The Llama 4 herd
My favorite stat about this is that more people voted for Trump in California than either of Texas or Florida
vmladenov··on The Llama 4 herd
No, they just don't care / too lazy / whatever. We get one minority's preferences over a slightly smaller minority.
vmladenov··on The Llama 4 herd
It is not and has never been half. 2024 voter turnout was 64%
vmladenov··on How each pillar of the First Amendment is under attack
In the end it all comes back to the PATRIOT Act and GWOT
vmladenov··on Caltrain's electric fleet more efficient than expected
I’m not sure where your figures are coming from, did you mean at the moment of posting your comment? If you look at the integral over the year, California does decently well[1] on renewables, and the people paying for it help blunt the competitive edge of the tremendous federal subsidies enjoyed by fossil fuels.

vmladenov··on US probes Tesla's Full Self-Driving software after fatal crash
Once insurance requires it or makes you pay triple to drive manually, that will likely be the tipping point for many people.
vmladenov··on A Bendy RISC-V Processor
You use multiple processors and a consensus algorithm.
vmladenov··on Playstation 5 Pro Shows the Futility of the Video-Game Graphics Race
So is the time passed since the release of MGS2 and the time between TPP and the tanker incident :)
vmladenov··on Sony announces PS5 Pro, a $700 graphics workhorse available Nov. 7
Lots of games still come out broken on PC to the point where it’s a worse experience, like UE4 games having shader compilation stutter.
vmladenov··on AnandTech Farewell
They do post their video scripts as articles with the relevant screenshots. It’s not quite the same as a text-first article, but I prefer reading.
vmladenov··on GNU Screen 5.0 Released
Ha, I have only ever used screen for serial comms and only learned about Minicom from this thread
vmladenov··on The anatomy of a 2AM mental breakdown
Sure, but just because _they_ suggest that you set your website to depend on https://us.i.posthog.com/static/array.js doesn’t mean you’re off the hook for following that (bad) advice.
vmladenov··on Server Mono: A Typeface Inspired by Typewriters, Apple's SF Mono, and CLIs
Not quite, the 1's top serif extends to the left edge. https://postimg.cc/nXMt2qhx Still way too close for comfort.
vmladenov··on Kawaii – A Keychain-Sized Nintendo Wii
The Talos Principle is phenomenal, fantastic effort by Croteam
vmladenov··on If AI chatbots are the future, I hate it

vmladenov··on Entering text in the terminal is complicated
fzf replacing my default ^R has been a godsend to me for remembering how to do things in the shell.

vmladenov··on Boeing to plead guilty to criminal fraud charge stemming from 737 MAX crashes
IIUC the decisions that led to the 737 Max happened under the prior CEO Muilenburg. Calhoun is just the fall guy. He wasn’t even CEO when the crashes happened.

He should bear responsibility for the door plugs, though.

vmladenov··on Advantages of incompetent management
I’ve enjoyed the aphorism "McDonnell Douglas bought Boeing with Boeing's money"
vmladenov··on Apple okays Epic Games marketplace app in Europe
This only holds until a major player pulls its apps from the store and requires you to use their portal. It’s not exactly a “welcome” when the price is losing access to a major component of your social network.
vmladenov··on Why "Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs" matters (2011)
It's more concise and illustrates the common subproblem. Loops make you model a state machine in your head, which I'd rather leave to the computer.
vmladenov··on Best Buy is shutting down its Samsung repair program
They closed one of the few remaining avenues to buy Blu-ray discs in person.
vmladenov··on Ice – open source menu bar manager for macOS
Thanks for sharing this note, I completely missed this development. Sad to see what has become of this app.
vmladenov··on Israel reportedly used fake social accounts to garner support from US lawmakers
Well, them and Saudi Arabia. It’s useful to have allies in the Middle East to protect trade routes.
vmladenov··on AeroSpace is an i3-like tiling window manager for macOS
Can you share any resources on learning to be productive with tiling WMs? I have tried a few times and always bounce off of them. I also find window overlapping to often be more intuitive than forcing them to squeeze into a tile.

I internalized the swipe gestures (3 fingers left/right) early on with OS X 10.6 snow leopard and then with the Mission Control update (3 fingers up) I am basically always faster with a trackpad than any keyboard “workspace” navigation.
