vivid242··on Show HN: Desktopcolors.com – A museum for solid background colors of classic OS
I sometimes catch myself recreating the Win95 color on my Mac. Thanks for this!
vivid242··on Show HN: A Handwritten Blogging Platform
Very human, well done! Thank you!
vivid242··on I Want to Leave the Internet
I think we‘re suffering from dopamine inflation. We need a more low-dopamine software.
vivid242··on Waldi: A quiet place to write, and to be read
Great concepts, great execution. A rebellion against the dopamine dealers.
vivid242··on LinkedIn is a cesspool of scammers and identity theft
If Instagram is bad for teenager‘s mental health, then what is the effect of LinkedIn on adults?
vivid242··on A Speed Limit for Computers
I like the idea, and it reminded me that the „Vim book“ had the subtitle: „Edit text at the speed of thought“.

How much faster should an ‚automated thinking‘ than a ‚manual thinking‘ be (allowed to be)?

vivid242··on I've been building this alone for months. Roast it before I lose any more time
I love your headline here :-)
vivid242··on Designing a Personal Pebble Watchface
Looks great, thanks for sharing the details and story!
vivid242··on Windows UI evolution: Clicking an unassociated file
I like your Windows postings, please don’t stop!
vivid242··on The brain was not designed for this much bad news
As for new habits: I stopped algorithmically curated news for myself. I use RSS and Leash as a browser:

vivid242··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On?
Would love to see this as a Raspberry Pi image download!
vivid242··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On?
Leash, a low-dopamine mobile browser replacement:

vivid242··on Show HN: Leash, a low-dopamine mobile browser replacement
Does the iPhone recognize this as a ‚browser‘?
vivid242··on Design Engineering Magazine
Reminds me of the Unsung blog, very nice!

unsung.aresluna.org

(Not sure if I‘d be willing to pay for it, though.)

vivid242··on Flipper One Tech Specs
A Swiss army knife of the day - after all, Swiss Army knives also serve a psychological purpose. And they do it well!
vivid242··on Ask HN: When did computers stop being fun?
Thanks for the great question! I think they used to be so much fun because they were an unexplored frontier.

Perhaps we need a new frontier?

vivid242··on Simulacrum of Knowledge Work
With AI, we‘re cargo-culting understanding. We‘re reproducing the surface of having understood something, but we‘re robbing ourselves the time and effort to truly do it.
vivid242··on Show HN: SmallDocs – Markdown without the frustrations
Hadn’t heard of it either - very smart, could open lots of other privacy-friendliness-improved „client-based web“ apps
vivid242··on The buns in McDonald's Japan's burger photos are all slightly askew
In a culture that likes things neat and orderly lined up!
vivid242··on Show HN: boringBar – a taskbar-style dock replacement for macOS
I‘d be happy to pay for an upgrade if future macOS changes break the functionality of this - cool - app, which would require the creator to update it. More work, which I would pay for. But not a subscription, sorry!

Plus, I‘d prefer to (but that’s impossible?) install via the App Store, to avoid a black box.

vivid242··on A compelling title that is cryptic enough to get you to take action on it
Can I also post a question that is actually answering itself?
vivid242··on Talk like caveman
Great idea- if the person who made it is reading: Is this based on the board game „poetry for cavemen“? (Explain things using only single-syllable words, comes even with an inflatable log of wood for hitting each other!)
vivid242··on The AI Marketing BS Index
-10 points if you actually read your marketing yourself before copy and pasting it on the website
vivid242··on Ghostmoon.app – The Swiss Army Knife for your macOS menu bar
Lovely! Would appreciate a release via the App Store / notarization or so… is there a newsletter so I could get notified?
vivid242··on The risk of AI isn't making us lazy, but making "lazy" look productive
Thank you for this helpful differentiation. I agree - and if it‘s undermining our trust into ‚effort‘ (we start to be suspicious about how much some piece of work is really ‚worth‘), it undermines also our relationships.

A good example is ‚birthday wishes‘:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2IYqhdJuRfU&t=5m47s

(AutoCorrect, AutoComplete - generate? AutoCongratulate? How much is ‚okay‘?)

vivid242··on Trust signals as sparklines for Hacker News
After attention, are we now in the trust economy… a brilliant idea for a plugin - thank you!
vivid242··on Antimatter has been transported for the first time
It was on the radio here (I live on its route)- the ‚receiving’ physicist said it would be way less than what we catch anyway from daily cosmic radiation.
vivid242··on A Chess Playing Machine – Shannon (1950) [pdf]
It’s so amazing that the same man invented all these amazing things (including the machine that switches itself off) AND the ‚bit‘ (in his Master’s thesis).
vivid242··on Anchor: Hardware-based authentication using SanDisk USB devices
If you can restrict the software, this would be a good way for controlling physical user ‚presence‘ - like in the supermarket, when a supervisor needs to scan their card for a cash register to take out a wrongly scanned item. I like it!
vivid242··on AI Risks "Hypernormal" Science
I wasn’t aware of the map empire, thank you!

Taking away some complexity comes at a price, and for some people, it’s hard to see that it outweighs the practicality.
