vivab0rg··on Forty years of programming
You don't need to "move your head around" if you use TWMs like xmonad or spectrwm.
vivab0rg··on FDIC to hit biggest US banks with $16B bill for SVB clean-up
This. So much this. More than ever now.
vivab0rg··on Termux is an Android terminal emulator and Linux environment app
Just yesterday I installed ConnectBot from F-Droid (free software) to access my laptop via SSH. It works just as fine as the other app. bought from the Play Store.
vivab0rg··on Ask HN: Options for Android phone no longer getting security updates?
This is just not true. I've been using my banking apps succesfully since last year across 3 rooted cheap phones with 4 distinct custom LineageOS ROMs with just some Magisk modules.

FirefoxOS tried but failed miserably. Mozilla is so dead to me.
vivab0rg··on I don’t have notifications enabled, nowhere and never
This has been my experience as well using a degoogled ROM for the first time. I feel I got so much time back. Now I'm really using my phone and not the other way around.

I prefer Session for messaging and for family I ask them to reach me on Telegram FOSS.

>. I've found unofficial maintainers give better support for their custom roms than manufacturers.

This is so true. Typing this on a Mi A2 Lite released in 2018 rocking a custom A11 ungoogled ROM and squeezing almost 3 days of battery life out of it. It's screen size is 5.84" and it's perfect. I refuse to go any bigger.

Panda extintion event.
vivab0rg··on Cool desktops don’t change
You should try spectrwm, a "fork" of xmonad not written in Haskell. It effectively replaced i3wm on all my laptops.
vivab0rg··on Cool desktops don’t change
Nice to see Qtile on Wayland. But I'm personally waiting for xmonad on Wayland.

vivab0rg··on Ask HN: Web frameworks – which less popular frameworks are you using and why?
Riotjs v2 was a breath of fresh air that endend my wait for the final version of Vue3. But alas, Riotjs v3 never got any traction and lacked any meaningful support. I finally settled on Elm and are much happier now.
vivab0rg··on A decade of dotfiles
Unrelated, but thank you for chezmoi, it's a clever little utility very well designed. I use it to manage many distinct Arch-based systems and soon will be moving my Ubuntu servers to it. Congratulations!
vivab0rg··on A decade of dotfiles
I managed my dotfiles across many distros using a bare multi-branch Git repo. But eventually it became a chore to share snippets among them. Chezmoi is little thin utility wrapper over Git that handles this usecase beautifully. I switched to Chezmoi over the weekend and just shudder to the thought of how much time I could have saved had I found it earlier.
vivab0rg··on Ask HN: Why is Google Premium not a thing?
Because your data is more valuable than your money.
vivab0rg··on Coffeezilla, a YouTuber Exposing Crypto Scams
I've been in crypto for 8 years. Still it's one of my favorite podcasts.

Thanks for sharing your very inspiring story!

Now, how do you see the current Lisp landscape compared to your experience back in the 80s? Where are the good opportunities for Lisp nowadays?

Upvote for a Practical Scheme book.

vivab0rg··on LineageOS
Using a custom ROM on my second-hand Mi A2 Lite enabled me access to Android 11. Next step is to flash an ungoogled ROM for maximum privacy.
vivab0rg··on JetBrains Mono – the free and open-source typeface for developers
Same for me, everytime. And I'm a Linux user.
vivab0rg··on Ask HN: Where are you getting your money's worth?
Vultr accepting crypto payments deprecated all other VPS providers for me. Very happy customer here!
vivab0rg··on Kodi: An Open Source Home Theater System
Not OP, but LibreELEC is pretty much where it's at right now.
vivab0rg··on Dracula Theme – A dark theme for many different apps
So do I. Unfortunately Gotham needs "ports".
vivab0rg··on Ask HN: What's your current favorite programming font?
The one font I keep coming back to. Forever.
vivab0rg··on Why, oh why, do those nutheads use vi? (2007)
I'm getting close to be a 10-year Vim user and I've spent the last year learning Colemak slowly and paciently.

I tried remapping for Colemak's sake, but I quickly decided against it.

Now I've settled on Colemak-DH with an Extended Layer implemented with Kmonad and I'm a lot happier.

For text navigation (besides the extended layer) I just use the EasyMotion plugin, so no need of remapping. I'm really digging it.

vivab0rg··on Ask HN: Who is the Joe Rogan of coding?
I second this recommendation. Listen to the last two episodes and be gladly surprised.

I was CamScanner for me. Switched to Notebloc with Syncthing to get my scans out.
