It took a very long time but it's nice to see that there will be people getting their Bitcoins back. I'd assumed most people had given up hope or were at best thinking they would get the original fiat value.
Bravo to the trustee and those involved.

Tether has shown proof of reserves, by former director of FBI. Examinations took place in Washington, D.C.
This isn't for your average Joe investing off the street who can obviously just buy a Trezor or Ledger wallet for their security.
But of course this is HN so the anti-crypto squad will be here shortly to smash all positive posts into grey-hell.
Personally I think re-establishing the importance of family values and monogamy will make our future a lot better off. Not only for the children but for society as a whole.
> MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
The new models are subpar in build quality imho and the touch bar is completely useless tech.
As someone who's living in New York I'd have to say you couldn't be further from the truth. But then again I guess it depends what part of the country you are in.
> Retirement looked pretty good until GE shares collapsed. His shares are now worth about $110,000, prompting a late-life job hunt.
I don't understand; it says he has an $85,000 pension. Isn't that more than enough to retire on? His stocks collapsed to about half their worth (roughly $110,000). This isn't exactly a crazy one off scenario; if you are invested in a single company and do not diversify, it's hard to place the blame on "others" and "complain" about having to find another job after keeping an almost six figure pension at the same time.
Is there a chance that GE could forfeit on their pension payout requirements if they lose more capital? Not sure how that works so forgive my ignorance.
Wow. I had no idea about that, the statistics seem shocking.
Excuse me?
I should dust them off and see if they still run.
I didn't even realize at the time T1 meant 1.54mbps; we definitely take for granted the speed today (currently at 250mbps for roughly ~$60USD/mo).
Great article :).
And before resorting to underhanded insults (you're a lost cause) I'd do some research ;). Cheers.
Countries where the currency is inflating at enormous rates, countries where the banking system is corrupt/out of date/not functioning, Bitcoin has changed these people's lives. Venezuela would be a good example from this year: https://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin/2017/02/03/why-venezue...
There is all kinds of other egregious waste (electrical and otherwise) going on in the world, how is this any worse than say millions of computer's online/burning power to play DoTA for instance (sorry MOBA fans, nothing personal. using it bc it has an enormous player base). It's a weird comparison but it gets the point across.
Plus, relatively speaking.. an entire year to power the country of Ecuador is the same amount of energy it takes to power the Bitcoin blockchain for a year doesn't seem that "wasteful" considering how many lives Bitcoin has changed & the miracle of being able to send up to $x,xxx, xxx USD (or any other currency) around the world, confirmed in less than 10 minutes for a paltry fee of ~$5.
I'm not sure why but there is a clear bias on HN regarding most Bitcoin articles.
This is just my opinion; take it with a grain of salt.
