victorbojica··on Most countries provide between 20 and 40 paid days off
well, then what happens when the company decides to revoke your pto? where do you put that into the statistics?
victorbojica··on Claude Opus 5
what for?
victorbojica··on The worst job interview I ever had
I was also part of this sort of interview once. They specifically asked personal questions - parents stuff, relationship, etc. Definitely not work related. It was indeed a very strange and exhausting experience. I could've definetly refused to answer some of the questions or drop out of the interview altogether, but not sure why I haven't.

So yeah, this type of interview exists so I highly doubt the interviewer interviewing OP was asking about work stuff...

victorbojica··on France dumps Zoom and Teams as Europe seeks digital autonomy from the US
Doesn't really matter if copycat or not in this case. I'd argue it's even better to be a copycat in order to move faster.
victorbojica··on The Napoleon Technique: Postponing things to increase productivity
I've built this kind of extension, but the backend being Linear (the issue tracker). I am able to mark an email as an issue, start it, complete it and see details about it, all within Gmail and synced with Linear. I guess using a local logic should also work - basically having everything inside the browser / extension.
victorbojica··on Waymo halts service during S.F. blackout after causing traffic jams
Not directly. But what about the emergency services not being able to reach their destinations? It stops being funny really fast
victorbojica··on After nine years of grinding, Replit found its market. Can it keep it?
And would it be better that the whole 100% go under the bus for his own failures?
victorbojica··on Why Romania excels in international Olympiads
School in Romania in the 90s was way harder than it is now. Standards have dropped (a lot) here as well.
victorbojica··on Postcard is now open source
Not sure if you're trolling or not...
victorbojica··on Starship Flight 7
What happens if it doesn't explode and they just lost control over it? I'm mostly curios of the risks at that altitude.
victorbojica··on Starship Flight 7
What happens if the ship has exploded? Is there any kind of danger?
victorbojica··on In my life, I've witnessed three elite salespeople at work
Same here. But I can’t oversee the irony. I was sold.
victorbojica··on Twitter is the worst global social network except for all the others
Maybe should also count the bad stuff Google does.
victorbojica··on Cuba's power grid fails, plunging country into darkness
Happens everywhere, but the way power in communism works makes bad stuff happen many times faster. In democracy there is a long time until a bad actor can do real damage. There are policies and various mechanisms that prevent that(to a point). Even bureaucracy works to some extent.
victorbojica··on Cuba's power grid fails, plunging country into darkness
I'd call that luck. Wait until a bad or stupid actor gets to power. This is the main problem with communism. It all depends on one single person and how they are.
victorbojica··on Microsoft CEO of AI Your online content is 'freeware' fodder for training models
Not saying it's a good thing either. And what you're saying it's unfortunately true.

We need people who really value creation, democracy, etc and not pure capitalism, profit optimization, etc.

victorbojica··on Microsoft CEO of AI Your online content is 'freeware' fodder for training models
I'm not saying it's not cynical, but it's surely not wrong. He just said what everyone in the business was already thinking.
victorbojica··on Google Sheets ported its calculation worker from JavaScript to WasmGC
Probably not bothered because it's fast thanks to this work. I'd probably be bothered if it was slow.

victorbojica··on What I learned from ambitious rich kids
curious about how you get into such mindset if you weren't raised like this. what is the driver behind?
victorbojica··on Ask HN: What's the best advice you received in 2023?
My best one this year, and the one that helped the most was: Everything that happens is a period. It has a start and an end. Really helped with whahter good or bad thing I've had.
victorbojica··on IDEs we had 30 years ago
JetBrains solutions. It think it's called RubyMine.
victorbojica··on Stirling-PDF: local web application to perform various operations on PDFs
If you are able to code or can ask someone, then you should be able to do it with some email api service (Nylas, AWS SES, etc) or headless client that gets the body of the email and convert it to pdf using wkhtmltopdf and then send it as attachment using the same service as before.

Using low/no code tools might be very hard/unlikely

victorbojica··on A Love Letter to Driving Alone
I don't think the author talks about loneliness. He talks about the experience of driving alone. Which everyone can do. Take it at face value.

And even if it would be about loneliness, there's nothing wrong in connecting with people over internet.

I do think everyone should travel alone at least once. I allows you to discover yourself.

victorbojica··on An Aperiodic Monotile Exists!
What are the real life usages of this?
victorbojica··on Hidden order in chaotic crowds
One weird way to move fast through a crowd that I've found is to keep your hands up. Not sure why, but when I'm doing this, most of the people seem to get out of the way. Works almost every time.
victorbojica··on Ask HN: What is the best advice you received in 2022?
Not really an advice, but this [1] completely changed the way I look and try so solve problems.

Basically, most of the things that are put in place have a reason behind it. You don't have to agree with the reason, but you must understand it before trying to solve a problem.

victorbojica··on Ask HN: How do you use upvote on HN?
If I've read it before and I consider it up vote worthy, then I upvote.

If it's something I've read and I want save it for later, I also upvote it.

If I didn't read it before and it's upvote worthy, then I upvote.

If it's something I'd like to see discussed on HN, I upvote.

Tldr: only if I've read it
