vednig··on Show HN: Open-Source Local Whisper Flow Alternative
yes it downloads model, and runs it locally.
vednig··on Show HN: Omacosy – Omarchy-style tiling desktop for macOS, no SIP
why doesn't YC fund products like this ?
vednig··on Delta
I see this link from zed and immediately know it must be something agentic to be on the front page of HN

HN used to be the best tech source in the world, to discuss new ideas and non main stream unconventional tech, but now everything seems like AI this AI that

Even though Zed has done a lot of good work on improving the IDE experience, the only way I see it coming on HN top page is if they showed the AI, and that's too sad

vednig··on Ask HN: If Social network is created today, what do you want to see?
Freedom as in Free Speech, if you can speak it you can post it. Any form of targetting over the content posted by Government or Private Entities regardless of motive should be condoned. Thus making it an integral part of conservation of democracies where it exists and better tool for voicing concerns where there isn't democracies.

And by Social Engineering, what I meant was no base algorithm implemention for suggestions, just if you follow a topic you'll be able to see all it's post on selection of posts based on what's liked better by others or those who follow you or those who whom you follow. Or a feed spiraled into making you spend time on platform, it should be like Newspaper/Event + Community Responses(excluding bots).

vednig··on Ask HN: If Social network is created today, what do you want to see?
no ai bots

no social engineering

freedom to say whatever you want however you want

vednig··on Apple is getting this wrong
What I don't understand that if two companies are in legal battle, can they discuss the case and try to influence public swing by doing a blog post or sharing evidence that is not verified by anyone other than the party sharing them.

OpenAI, even after raising this much capital, had never anticipated that something like this could happen yet keeps digging it's own grave.

At this point all that's left is for them to kiss and pay else they're done.

Apple vs OpenAI will be the war of legacies, trust and innovation.

vednig··on Archaeologists Find Ancient Glyphs in the Amazon
Looks like a giant wireless charger
vednig··on Show HN: Resume Tailor – Fit your resume to any job
Often good candidates get rejected by poorly designed ATS and unclear HR requirements, AI here just helps candidates cross a hurdle that is communication acts like a translation layer between the two parties.

And very few people when hiring read a complete resume and judge solely on the basis of that.

vednig··on Solod: Go can be a better C
it could also be Typesafe at compile time
vednig··on Starlink from 1984
It would seem what apps needed the most back then was more RAM and compute and it's still true today, we've just offload ed most of the compute and RAM requirements to GPUs now NVLink/NVswitch/Infiband is what Starlink was back then for $5000 DGX sparks and similar systems only
vednig··on GitHub Models is no longer available to new customers
They could've run the same features and pricing as Azure foundry while keeping the ecosystem intact

Except Microsoft doing it's work

vednig··on Dropbox CEO Drew Houston to step down
I wish Drew all the best for his journey, he built the market for many generations to come.
vednig··on Incident with Actions and Pages
If you see the log at https://isgithub.online/ the gap between two consecutive events is decreasing
vednig··on Googlebook
I'd buy it, but for me, Google lost it's credibility when they made Chromebook on an a Linux kernel but kept the specs too low, and even made sure to hijack the market by providing for free to schools
vednig··on Show HN: IsGithub.Online
also in incident history you can see the time interval between incidents
vednig··on Ask HN: What would you want in a GitHub alternative?
is CI/CD a tie breaker?
vednig··on Ask HN: What would you include if you could make your own phone?
i would love to know more about this radio, can you provide a model name or any reference
vednig··on Ask HN: What would you include if you could make your own phone?
some of these are not realisitic yet

- Full approval of all code by Linus T.

- High impact rated to withstand being dropped from the top of an air traffic control tower, driven over by a cement truck, shot by a 45-70.

but the rest is very much doable

vednig··on Ask HN: What would you include if you could make your own phone?
already planning on the battery section, cameras and other sensors (including wifi and bluetooth) would always be upgradeable unlike current phones without tools by using fix and switch method all except front camera (included privacy shield) and speakers
vednig··on Ask HN: What would you include if you could make your own phone?
link to gofundme https://gofund.me/cd3e5be83
vednig··on The FCC wants your ID before you get a phone number
every thing happening right now in privacy space including OS level ID verification, then websites requiring ID and now this is strangely alarming

right to privacy and speech will soon be very limited in aspects only relating and possible offline and very soon there will be nothing one can do about that

vednig··on Serving a website on a Raspberry Pi Zero running in RAM
except in RAM based OS the page size and computation resources reduce significantly as OS is using the same memory to run instead of reading from disk and eating up critical memory area for applications, only thing in between a full crash and OS is the swap storage, macOS and Windows would never be even able to achieve this it is possible only due to Linux/BSD and it's level of optimization.

a better way would be to boot via nvme SSD, ethernet boot has a dependency of network, what if you need to debug when network is down or debug the errors/bugs network itself ?

vednig··on Serving a website on a Raspberry Pi Zero running in RAM
we're running a complete production grade cloud storage service with Raspberry Pi Zeros at https://getcloud.doshare.me that's how powerful Rpi hardware we've tested it for upto 10k concurrent requests with storage ofcourse, but still too far powerful
vednig··on Show HN: A static website designed to be not readable by AI
you're right, I was unable to implement DRM, but it is technically possible though to prevent even screenshots, Netflix and similar services do it, to do that images have to be videos and use EME API but the protected content apis are not uniform across browsers, this setup is designed to prevent code injections, DOM events, keypress, window resizing etc. Tested this on codex, claude, perplexity via url.

the idea is to demonstrate prevention from random SOTA AI bot based sniffing especially when scrapping is included, and PIIs are at risk, or simply to protect your privacy in a simpler manner instead of using a service like Cloudflare which uses sophesticated tech via ip ranking, cookies etc and may track excessively.

vednig··on Running official Arch Linux on Arm (not to be confused ArchLinuxARM)
Bringing Arch Linux on Arm is one of the best things to happen to this world
vednig··on Show HN: Clipmon is a macOS clipboard manager on steroids
replay is an interesting usecase would bring it to this soon.
vednig··on Show HN: Clipmon is a macOS clipboard manager on steroids
thanks lol
vednig··on Ask HN: Will there be global famine soon?
I'm almost sure it will be the case but not directly due to supply demand
vednig··on Can You Find the Comet?
It's a set of network satellites for sure either by Eutelsat or Starlink in 70:20 ratio 10% being other providers

But all of them being LEO for sure.

vednig··on Ask HN: What to Expect in 2030s?
and then run as fast as dinosaurs did when that comet hit earth when everything goes haywire
