veber-alex··on JetBrains reported a net financial loss first time in its tracked history
This 100%. My current workflow is switching between CC and VS Code to review code, and it's extremely clunky. There is still not a single harness/ADE that can do everything correctly in one tool.
veber-alex··on JetBrains reports revenue growth, net financial loss for 2025
Between VSCode and AI, all the engineers I work with have stopped using JetBrains products.

I don't think the problem is AI itself; they can have AI too, AI as capable as something like Cursor, for example. The issue is that their product is bloated and slow, and much of the technological leadership they once had has been overtaken by VSCode.

veber-alex··on Mold Linker Version 3.0.0 Release – Rewritten in Rust
Can't you just use a statically linked mold binary for the initial bootstrap, just like you use some kind of pre-existing, basic C compiler?

lol. I am being downvoted for trying to help people out.

This community is pure trash.

It takes 2 minutes to fix Opus 5

You can fork a conversation in Claude as well.
veber-alex··on Prevent cognitive debt by manually retyping LLM-generated code
ain't nobody got time for that
veber-alex··on Prevent cognitive debt by manually retyping LLM-generated code
> LLM speedups have always been predicated on not understanding the code they produce as well as if you wrote it yourself. Reviewing even well written code to understand it in depth, has always taken longer than simply writing it yourself - let alone sloppy LLM code that you have to fix

I am at least 3x more productive by letting an LLM write my code and I review and understand every single line it writes.

Also, Fable 5 came up with some amazing solution and designs that I would have never been able to do myself.

I can say with 100% surety that my current project at work is MUCH better with an LLM compared to if I wrote it myself.

AI slop
veber-alex··on Kimi-K3 on HuggingFace
I still see Opus 4.6 available in CC.

Also I have been using Opus 5 for the last few days and I find it work fine. It's a little verbose but the code quality is good.

veber-alex··on Kimi K3: Open Frontier Intelligence
Wow.

It's pretty buggy but has way more features than expected.

Definitely the best desktop website I have ever seen.

veber-alex··on How Our Rust-to-Zig Rewrite Is Going
Exactly.

Every part of the language must support memory safety from first principles.

veber-alex··on How Our Rust-to-Zig Rewrite Is Going
I believe you are correct.

I think ReleaseSafe just adds bound checking and panics on unreachable code.

I don't think Zig offers any temporal memory safety.

veber-alex··on How Our Rust-to-Zig Rewrite Is Going
It's impossible to add a borrow checker to any existing language.

The reason Rust has a working borrow checker is because every part of the language from structs, enum, traits, generics and all the way to the syntax itself has been designed to support lifetimes and borrow checking.

It's is not something you can just tack on to an existing language without fundamentally changing it.

veber-alex··on OnePlus halts operations in USA and Europe
I had a OnePlus 6 before switching to iphones. Great device.

But the company was doomed the moment they started raising prices to Samsung levels. Lost any reason to buy them.

veber-alex··on The Tokio/Rayon Trap and Why Async/Await Fails Concurrency

Your first mission should be providing a working dark mode site.

Holy flashbang.

Literally the only way this is going to happen is if aliens come to earth and gift us some amazing technology.
veber-alex··on Zig Creator Calls Spade a Spade, Anthropic Blows Smoke
Well at least he didn't call Jarred a monkey and a loser so Jarred is better off than the Github devs.
veber-alex··on Zig Creator Calls Spade a Spade, Anthropic Blows Smoke
You really think AI can't convert unsafe blocks to safe code?

The reason AI can't fix memory unsafety in the original language is the same reason humans can't do it. There isn't enogh feedback from the compiler.

veber-alex··on Zig Creator Calls Spade a Spade, Anthropic Blows Smoke
I mean, does it even matter?

It's not Bun's or anyone else job to care about Zig's or the ZSF's feelings or publicity.

A project who switches programming languages or frameworks or whatever doesn't need to be afraid of offend anyone.

veber-alex··on Grok 4.5
I don't know google's AI strategy but what I can tell from my usage and others around me is that google search usage has declined considerably.

Terms like "Google it" have been completely replace by "Ask AI".

I personally mostly use google to find businesses close to me and to search reddit and wikipedia.

veber-alex··on Only 1 of the Top 5 AI Coding Models on WebDev Arena Isn't Chinese
This is showing a ranking per lab not model.

If you rank by model only 2 Chinese models are in the top 10.

veber-alex··on Meta caps internal AI token spending
It's not flashy.

When shit just works for months or years no one is going to come and praise you for stuff you did a while back.

You are better off breaking stuff and then fixing them to show how useful you are.

veber-alex··on Codeberg Is Down
I don't do ops myself so I don't know the exact details but sometimes Gitlab is down or there are strange issues with CI/CD breaking.
veber-alex··on Codeberg Is Down
On perm Gitlab has a ton of problems too.
veber-alex··on Codeberg Is Down
There are a couple of very vocal people who are generally liked here who wrote angry blog posts about moving from Github to Codeberg.

This is why it's getting traction.

veber-alex··on Steam Machine launches today
While you are technically correct, 99% of all games that are going to be played on this device are going to come from steam where they take a 30% cut.

I don't know how much money they make from each unit but major profit is not the goal here. They want to sell more games to more casual people who don't even own a PC anymore.

veber-alex··on Steam Machine launches today
Nobody cares about the Switch hardware, they but it to play Nintendo games.

This is just a x86 PC.

veber-alex··on Steam Machine launches today
I don't understand, what is so special about this?

They are selling a x86 PC. All x86 PCs sold by everyone are open and you can install whatever you want.

It's commodity hardware packaged into a small box. There is nothing special here.

Trying to sell it as it if Valve are more consumer friendly here is nonsense.
