vbv··on Fork: Fast and Friendly Git Client for Mac
I have been using atlassian sourcetree for quite a while. It has very similar look and feel :)

vbv··on Ask HN: Do you have a side project you want to sell?
I'll shoot you an email today. Thank you.
vbv··on Ask HN: Do you have a side project you want to sell?
I made http://www.cliffchat.com/ a couple of years ago.

It's a place where college/university students get their questions answered, answer others questions, and help each other out.

In a way, a stackoverflow for students.

vbv··on Ask PG: How would you fill out a YC application with YC as your idea?
I think it would be even better if it was for Viaweb.

This is in relation to the previous post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6939710

Does node.js support the * though. I tried their example and getting this:

vbv··on Ask HN: What is going on today? Top 3 posts on HN are about Microsoft.
I'm surprised because most of the times Microsoft related posts on HN get downvoted really quickly.
vbv··on The CODE Keyboard
I'd get this one if it was curved and without the numpad to reduce the distance to the mouse.
vbv··on Ask HN: Any good resources/books on Marketing for first time entreprenuers?
Thank you for your reply. I know we can do some online marketing with Google and Facebook ads. But with those I only get pageviews and not sign-ups or any other activity. Both lists you shared seem to be what I was looking for. I'll get some of the books from both lists.
vbv··on Ask HN: Where to get business cards made?
I used Moo before and the rounded corners was a great addition. The touch and feel of the cards is really professional as well. I'll continue using Moo for my future business cards.
vbv··on Ask HN: Do you run a forum? Will send $10 Amazon gift card for interview.
Can it be any kind of forum? Or are you looking for tech specific one. Thanks.
vbv··on Ask HN: What happened to Proposition HN? ("$8000 for your side project")
I kind of find it hard to believe. You just created your account like 17 mins ago.
vbv··on Ask HN: What happened to Proposition HN? ("$8000 for your side project")
It didn't look anything serious when it was posted and I hope no one did.
vbv··on Ask HN: Is Bitbucket down, too?
Github is back and Bitbucket went down.

What's going on today?

vbv··on Surf the Web without annoying ads
Just tried it and was amazed by how much ads it was already blocking especially on youtube.
vbv··on Ask PG: Is there any significance of the thick line on top of Hacker News?
Thank you for your reply. I haven't seen this before so I'm guessing it's a new practice.
vbv··on In 8 months at Microsoft, I learned these things
Also if you get a chance read this blog post written by a Microsoft Dev Manager.

vbv··on In 8 months at Microsoft, I learned these things
I tend to agree with your post as I have been through what you are going through. I still regret taking the SDET role. In general SDETs do a lot of janitor kind of work. Cleaning up after the Devs and PMs. At the end of the day what everyone cares is that you have tested everything and not how you do it. I used to do a lot of system admin kind of work i.e. setting up machines, installing OS, running scripts, running existing test suites, etc. instead of writing new tests or new test frameworks. I am afraid this will take a long time to change. The only thing we can do now is move away from the SDET role. I can't guarantee if it'll be any better but it won't be as worse as being an SDET.
vbv··on In 8 months at Microsoft, I learned these things
I have a gut feeling that he works as an SDE in Test (SDET). I have been through the same experience in my first 2 years. SDETs go through a very different experience as compared to a PM or SDE at Microsoft.

I totally agree. I only work past 6 if I came in late. Otherwise there are plenty of hobbies to catch up with. Mine is making a nice dinner for myself at the end of the day. In that way you also get more time to work on your personal/side projects or even contribute to open source.

vbv··on Ask HN: Are the rejection emails out for YC S13?
I just noticed people starting to get emails. I'll note it down here for future that emails start going out around 6pm PST.
vbv··on Ask HN: Are the rejection emails out for YC S13?
Haha. I titled it that way because I expect most who will get accepted won't be checking HN as often.
vbv··on Applications open for summer 2013 YC funding
pg don't you think the alumni would be biased towards startups/people they know. Or say no to those that could potentially become their competitors in the future.
vbv··on Ask HN: Anyone heard anything regarding YC Winter 2013 Applications?
Reading previous threads I have found a pattern. I may be wrong but that seems to be the pattern. Rejection emails go out around 4pm Pacific time and interview invite emails go out around 7pm Pacific time.
vbv··on Tell HN: Startup school 2012 invites are out

I am flying from Seattle, too. Would you like to meet before we fly there? Let me know. Thanks.

vbv··on Ask HN: Reference or Reading materials for Learning Hadoop
Thank you for your reply. I have ordered Tom White's book and it should be here in 5 days I hope. In the meantime I am reading the Jimmy Lin's book online. One of the problems I am trying to solve is that I have 100+ VMs that are collecting logs and I wanted to find a better way to parse those logs and be able to make sense out of it as they are running against a single machine and it's hard to understand what happened in which VM at any given time. Many thanks for the information.
vbv··on Ask PG: Does YC have experience with founders who were employed on H1b visas?
May be moving your startup to Canada after YC graduation would work. Need to check details on this.
vbv··on Applications Open for Winter 2013 YC Funding
PG - My cofounder and I have a product already (about to launch). But we have doubts that we may not be able to get in with that idea based on the previous ideas that got selected for YC. Should we apply with our current idea, come up with a completely new idea, or apply as a no idea?
