vasili111··on Ask HN: How to pivot to a Machine Learning engineer?
How well do you know math? Do you really know math?
vasili111··on Ask HN: How to pivot to a Machine Learning engineer?
Just to he sure that I understand the context, are you working as MLE or where from you had that knowledge?
vasili111··on The Death of the Junior Developer
Which is your field?
vasili111··on Ask HN: What do you do on the weekend?
> Weekends now revolve around the sports and activities of our children.

I wish my weekends look the same.

vasili111··on Ask HN: Most Interactive REPL for Python?
Python interactive mode in VSCode: https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/python/jupyter-support-py
vasili111··on Ask HN: The Required Fundamentals for Self-Taught Programming
If you can read the code next step would be to start writing the code. Write a code of the program that you are interested in and it does not really matter which kind of program you will develop. If you are interested in learning more about fundamentals (which is really good) you can do that in parallel to writing the code.
vasili111··on Ask HN: Has anyone else stopped playing video games as an adult?
Yes, I just lost interest in games. I found more interesting, useful and enjoyable things in life than games.
vasili111··on Ask HN: What makes you disable your adblocker?
I have whitelisted stack overflow. It does not have distracting ads which sometimes I find even useful.
vasili111··on Cognition Labs Seeks $2B Valuation
New and more chips will come and make AI more cheap. I do not expect AI too crash, it is too useful.
vasili111··on Backdoor in upstream xz/liblzma leading to SSH server compromise
Could anyone please tell me if current stable version of Debian has that backdoor or not?
vasili111··on Are we all doomed? Why?
Thank you for such informative reply which I find very useful for me.

>The notion that neural networks are going to wipe out programmers in the next year or two (or three, or four) is inane. I can barely get ChatGPT 4 to write some simple (WORKING) functions I want, never mind gather specifications, ask for clarifications on those specifications, design a proper architecture for the project with unit testing and so on. This will surely improve in the next few years, but not by much in the next few years at least.

This is my experience and thoughts too. In most cases I can write code faster than write a prompt to generate same code and after check it.

I use LLMs and I find them useful but do not need to use them often.

vasili111··on Are we all doomed? Why?
>> Is it a temporary decline of the market?

>Yes

Could you please explain in more details you think so?

vasili111··on Are we all doomed? Why?
>Unfortunately, many companies will get rid of their more-talented (but more expensive) employees to keep costs down short-term. Long-term, this will burn them exactly the way you'd expect.

Is this your personal observation or from some other sources?

vasili111··on Ask HN: What is not going to change in future?
AES is considered quantum resistant.
vasili111··on Ask HN: How worried are you about being replaced by an LLM
Not worried. LLMs are just another tool that you can use to be more productive. How often and to what extent you will use LLMs differ from person to person. I think LLMs can help you but not replace you.
vasili111··on Nvidia CEO says "coding is a dying profession"
LLMs can help with programming. But you cannot just copy/paste the code from LLMs and push to production. You need to understand the code that LLMs are producing otherwise soon or later you will get in trouble.
vasili111··on Ask HN: Is there a good reason not to enable Lockdown Mode on an iPhone?
It dies not allows me to call to FaceTime from contacts. But I can still call from FaceTime app.
vasili111··on Phind-70B: Closing the code quality gap with GPT-4 Turbo while running 4x faster
I use VSCode for Python programming with Python for data science related tasks (never used for web design). I especially like Python interactive mode: https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/python/jupyter-support-py

It will be interesting to hear from other people why they do not like VSCode for data science related tasks.

vasili111··on Phind-70B: Closing the code quality gap with GPT-4 Turbo while running 4x faster
Try in browser with Incognito mode?

Not only discounted but free too.
vasili111··on Ask HN: Are Mathematica, Sage and other algebra software worth it?
ggplot2 is not the best visualization solution. It is simple, easy to learn and provides majority of plots you will need. But it cannot do everything and is not best in everything.
