valenceelectron··on Walking Tokyo for Seven Days
That is kind of what it is, yes: "Tokyo Metropolis [which] consists of 23 special wards and 39 other, ordinary municipalities (cities, towns, and villages). [...] Today, all wards refer to themselves as a city in English, but the Japanese designation of special ward (tokubetsu-ku) remains unchanged" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_wards_of_Tokyo)

Some of these wards consist of high rise buildings only, some are residential areas with hidden alleys and family-friendly environment. As a fellow European who lived in Tokyo for one year, I cannot support your statement but your experience walking around highly depends on where in Tokyo you are. For some wards, you are probably entirely correct. However, other wards allow for the experience shared by others here.

The Netherlands are already affected by sea level rise for some time. However, it seems to me they also plan and act accordingly for quite some time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flood_control_in_the_Netherlan...

"The sea defenses are continuously being strengthened and raised to meet the safety norm of a flood chance of once every 10,000 years for the west, which is the economic heart and most densely populated part of the Netherlands, and once every 4,000 years for less densely populated areas. [...]

The Second Delta Committee [...] expects a sea level rise of 65 to 130 cm by the year 2100."

Higher is worse. There may be different „schools“ of thought or opinions but according to my doctor 7.5 is a threshold you should not cross (type 1).

They do more than that, e.g. IoT and PaaS stuff: https://developer.bosch-iot-suite.com/ Also, when googling I found this: https://tpl.informatik.uni-stuttgart.de/wp-content/uploads/2...

Don't know how successful these endeavors are.

valenceelectron··on Known anomalies in Unicode character names (2017)
Since I know that macOS conveniently allows to type en and em dashes (option+hyphen and shift+option+hyphen respectively) I'm using both frequently in the appropriate situations instead of just putting hyphens everywhere.
valenceelectron··on Living Without Atomic Clocks (2016)
>It feels like we keep trying to get the exact nanosecond when something happens, but the only thing I ever see humans use that information for is to reverse engineer a sequence of events that resulted in a peculiar state in the system.

Lamport clocks do exist and can provide a partial or total order of events. Not sure if that would've helped with your problem but such algorithms do exist. But it feels like they are rarely used (subjective feeling).

valenceelectron··on Clinical characteristics of 50k patients with 2019-nCoV infection
If I understand the relevant parts of this paper correctly, then this pulmonary fibrosis is not an ongoing and worsening condition in patients recovered from SARS. They "merely" attest that there was more long-term damage to those patients lungs that took months to recover (if at all). Not in the field of medicine though, so I might be incorrect.
valenceelectron··on Minimap plugin for Atom implements ads, refuses to revert, resulting in a fork
Only thanks to your issue I noticed that the main/most active developer of minimap is a Kite employee as well. He also didn't react so far.

VLC was designed (and, well, still is) as streaming media server. This actually causes some problems with regard to normal playback but also makes it really good as... well, streaming media server, something mpv can't really do well (and doesn't intend to).
