vadym909··on Hackers nab $500k as Enigma is compromised weeks before its ICO
and Fortune is starting a dedicated column to crypto related news called Ledger http://fortune.com/2017/08/22/ledger-blockchain-fintech/
vadym909··on qBitcoin – Proposal for a decentralized online quantum cash system
I'll take it. It is going to 10x in a few months, right?
vadym909··on Cisco's Feud with Former Star Executive Turns Personal and Costly
wow- that was a mean thing for her to say. I'm surprised you didn't respond more harshly.
vadym909··on How to Pick Your Next Gig: Evaluating Startups
Did I miss something? It lists 6 super successful founders with no startup experience - and then recommends to look for founders with past experience at a Rocketship or Serial Entrepreneurs as the best bet for how to evaluate startups.
vadym909··on Uber debuts new Uber for Business with custom travel programs and rules
If I was a large business with deep pockets, I'd be wary of signing up to use independent contractors to ferry employees around and get embroiled in the employee misclassification debate.

Uber has said it is just a platform enabling the transaction between an independent driver and customer. That puts the entire burden of employee classification on the company. If HR sets the travel policy on the app, they would be authorizing it.

vadym909··on SoundCloud saved by emergency funding as CEO steps aside
>My bias is finding a CEO with relevant prior experience.

Should've stuck to just 'CEO of Vimeo' then. In most tech companies an MBA exec is seen as a negative (at least by the engineers). What you did matters more than whether you have a degree or not.

vadym909··on Coinbase raises $100M Series D led by IVP
Unrelated, but it still blows my mind- that the creator of this cryptosystem thats now worth $50B is still unknown.

He has to have been lived somewhere, gone to school somewhere, studied, worked somewhere, left some track somewhere about who he was.

vadym909··on Facebook Profit Jumps 71% Year-over-Year
Hopefully their newly unionized cafeteria workers can extract a bit more from them, then Google would have to do the same to Google Express drivers, then Apple to its coach drivers, and this trickle down effect to non-tech jobs may actually work. http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/07/24/hundreds-of-facebook-c...
vadym909··on The quitting economy
That's what consulting companies do, although they'd take a bit more than 15%. More like 40%, but then they have a higher rate too.
vadym909··on The Decline of Investment in San Francisco Startups
I agree BMR is a scam, but not because of its effect on wages. It is too small of a factor, but because it is not market-based and leads to quotas, lotteries, middlemen, bribes- all bad.

To offset crazy high demand and prices, the only option is to increase supply (build taller, denser apartments/condos) or limit demand (disallow foreign buyers who speculate or invest, increase property taxes for owners that rent out their houses)

vadym909··on Using Deep Learning to Create Professional-Level Photographs
Cool- Are you going to apply it to all images on Google Maps? How about an 'Auto Enhance" button on Google photos?
vadym909··on Apple and Google embody two alternative models of capitalism
and if you look at half the workforce at these companies,Labor- the ones not making 6 figures- like couriers, personal shoppers, cafeteria workers, content reviewers, helpdesk, customer support, admins, security- they are contractors that don't get 401k, IRA and live hand-to-mouth and always precariously poised to be fired anyday. They can't afford, can't buy and never benefit from stock price increases.
vadym909··on Real estate site Redfin files for IPO
They are registered brokers with a website- just like Windermere. They took this path vs being just a website like Zillow.
vadym909··on Real estate site Redfin files for IPO
I agree. Realtors won't get killed- they'll just have their commissions reduced. I've bought a house through Redfin which was easy enough, but used an agent who agreed to Redfin level fees, but was much more knowledgeable and better at selling my house. From dressing up the house, doing open houses to following up with buyers, to negotiating. Redfin couldn't match him with their inexperienced agents/helpers, high volume and cookie cutter methods that are more suited to hot real estate markets where there's not much for realtors to do.
vadym909··on Real estate site Redfin files for IPO
cutting the fees by 25% actually. Redfin acts as the buyer or seller's broker and only gives you back half of their 3% commission. The other side's broker still gets their 3%. So you pay 4.5% instead of 6%.
vadym909··on How to Murder a Byzantine Emperor
For all you hungry people- Game of Thrones is back Jul 16th https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/04/arts/television/game-of-t...
vadym909··on Yelp’s Six-Year Conflict with Google
Whoah. Hold on. The problem is not with Google offering a Review service for HVAC companies. If the Google reviews are more comprehensive and valuable than Yelp- by all means have them show up in the organic listings- for that matter even use up your own budget to take up the sponsored space. But don't pretend that you've now got a new feature as part of search (taking up the sponsored box as a legal maneuver) that offers a similar service like Yelp and that it is part of your Google Search service. That is PURE EVIL.
vadym909··on EFF's Letter to Zillow on Behalf of McMansion Hell [pdf]
Thanks EFF. Should I ever get a threatening letter from a Big Corp, I'm def going to use this letter as a template to respond and save myself some lawyer fees.
vadym909··on Author of cURL denied entry to the USA
Sorry for your troubles. In many blue states that didn't vote Trump, our votes are worth 25% of the votes of some red states. Not our fault- what was implemented to make it fair to small states is now a menace to the large states. Demagogues that cater to the GOP agenda manipulate the red-state populace like 3rd world dictators.

Our only hope is for the next Dem Presidential candidate to be sensible but also capable of charming or hoodwinking the red states in some way. I thought Bernie would be good, but he's too honest. We need someone like Bill Clinton again.

vadym909··on Google Gets Record $2.7B EU Fine for Skewing Searches
Good point- Airports and movie theaters with their super high pricing come to mind.

Although in this case, the monopoly example would be akin to a hospital or gas station in a small town raising prices 3x and saying if you don't want to pay, go to the next town.

vadym909··on SoftBank Agrees to Buy Boston Dynamics From Alphabet
I've seen this #100B investment being used in multiple places now- Trump creating jobs in US- Softbank, Trump getting investment from Saudi Arabia- Softbank. investing in Robotics- Softbank.
vadym909··on Paul Allen's new rocket-launching plane
Except Musk and Branson who've been doing this before it was the cool new thing- it feels the newcomers are just doing it for legacy. Having hospitals and colleges named after you isn't special enough anymore. Space is the new frontier for ego battles.
vadym909··on Instagram CEO on Stories: Don’t Call It a Copycat
If you have no qualms about copying it- at least have the fucking balls to admit it. Don't hide behind Ford and the other automakers who btw copied Daimler.
vadym909··on Paul Allen's new rocket-launching plane
Any more billionaires feeling left out of the space race?
vadym909··on Uber Fires Anthony Levandowski
That vendor's email is probably the most expensive email mistake ever made. I wonder if he sent it to the old Levandowsky (Google) email that his email system probably autopopulated?
vadym909··on Why Did a Chinese Peroxide Company Pay $1B for a Talking Cat?
The sad thing is - Chinese investors/CEOs then need to get the money out of China because they know it will crash eventually.

So they invest in hot real estate markets like Canada, US and Australia causing house prices to go to stratospheric levels and make it un-affordable for the locals.

vadym909··on Google to launch a jobs search engine in the US
The only real competitor left is Indeed, but I suspect there's more to it.
vadym909··on US Household Debt Surpasses 2008 High
Surprised why more Americans don't explore colleges in low tuition countries.
vadym909··on Uber faces criminal probe over software used to evade authorities
<it's not uncommon for drivers to allow undocumented immigrants without drivers licenses to use their Uber car/account> pulling an Uber on Uber
vadym909··on Facebook to add 3k people to community operations team to improve moderation
The current ones are in Palo Alto and pay $17-20/hr. They are staffed by vendors Accenture/Collabera - obviously with very few benefits compared to facebook. http://apps.collabera.com/jobs/57642-Content-Review-Analyst-...
