Data obtained by fox news suggested that migrant arrivals at the southern border declined by 60% in the first week of Trump’s presidency compared to the last week of Biden’s administration. However, this figure differs from Trump’s 93% claim.

That's why I said 60-90%

vaccineai··on 20k federal workers take "buyout" so far, official says
Good, we want the competent and skilled people within government to go to private enterprise in big numbers, so they can amplify their skills and effect in private enterprise. Then we can reduce the number of government agencies, because they are always less effective than private enterprises.

The problem is when we have the lazy and incompetent bureaucrats sticking around, and us the taxpayers are paying for their pension while getting back very little in return.

Honestly, I'm not sure what all the screaming and crying on hacker news is about; hackers are all about creating efficiency with unorthodox insights and skills. pretty sure no hackers have said "why yes, I've love to pay more in taxes for the bureaucrats to retire in style after doing very little"

That's a big lie. border encounters dropped 60-90% since 1/20. https://newsfactsnetwork.com/fact-check/fact-vs-fiction-did-...

Trump supporters watch Fox News, and listens to Joe Rogan. They are pretty in tune with the current politics, but they just don't try to go online and fight against the left.

You have many misunderstandings that you should probably have right first before continuing

CNN leans pretty far left, but not as left as MSNBC

NYT leans pretty far left, similarly to CNN

Reddit leans very far left, so does Facebook and Instagram

Media in general is very left leaning. For example, Youtube, Disney, Netflix are the biggest online video content house, and they all lean heavily left. Even Max leans slightly left. There is no right leaning online content house. And all contents are moving to online.

vaccineai··on Avoiding outrage fatigue while staying informed
that's because VC and billionaires know when a party is winning, and when the other party is unvotable for 10+ years.

Building out mostly unused high-speed rail interconnections and being in debt is a well-known sign of a country that thinks short-term. the local government gets paid for building these useless rails out.

China is weak, its current economic engines of real estate and internal consumption has failed. It is currently heavily dependent on export, of which, sanctions and tariffs on China would wreck their economy.

You are so very wrong.

Just one example around free market: China's private sector has lost ground as state sector has gained share among top corporations since 2021 https://www.piie.com/research/piie-charts/2024/chinas-privat...

That's hilarious. The most popular grocery stores in Shanghai right now are Costco and Sams, with lines everyday out the door, not Chinese grocery stores. Chinese citizens don't want to buy cancerous food products for example.
vaccineai··on Suspension of inbound parcels from China and Hong Kong
Chinese government only thinks in terms of months, not forever. Why do you think they overbuilt housing and crashed the economy? It's because the government officials want to quickly cash out and escape to other countries.

> China has corruption, yet is able to modernize and build up the military at a pace exceeding the USA's, which spends at least 2x more.

There's no evidence that China can wage a real war against Taiwan, much less near peer, despite having the units on paper, due to the corruptions. Russia has shown that because of military corruption, it's a paper tiger, much like China. There's a reason Xi Jing Ping is trying desperately to purge military leaders right now, but the military complex is fighting back.

> China produces about 4 MILLION barrels a day

which is for its own economy to function. A large naval plus army force would need significantly more oil to supply all the diesel ships, which each diesel ship require several thousand gallons of fuel per day. Unless you're saying China is willing to let its economy collapse in order to attack Taiwan, which is hilarious.

> China has MULTIPLE TRILLION dollar funds

This shows exactly that you have no idea what you're talking about. Everyone knows right now that China is dead broke and its local government is dead broke. The economy is suffering from deflation because its people have no money to spend.

> China imports a lot, but they are self-sufficiency on a caloric basis

Also you have no idea what you're talking about. When a country imports 80% of its food, it is NOT self sufficient

vaccineai··on The U.S. needs a shipbuilding revolution
> China’s military has the capability to land ground forces on Taiwan within as little as one week after imposing a naval blockade on the island

you're using this one little quote to signify that China can take Taiwan? get real. that just means some boots will be on the ground, doesn't mean that these boots will make it past the beach. and naval blockade has very little chance of succeeding past a few days, when China will immediately be sanctioned by all the countries, leading to its collapse

vaccineai··on The U.S. needs a shipbuilding revolution
>after a while Taiwan is no longer needed and China can just take it

lol, as if amphibious assault against a country that has been preparing invasion for 70 years, as well as a country that is at the forefront of electronics, is that easy.

yes, China is building tons of ships. but each ship, which cost a few hundred million each, can be sunk by Taiwan's advanced missile systems, for a few million per missile. Each ship needs to be fueled properly, which is also extremely hard logistical task, just ask Russia. And these ships move slowly across a region that is heavily monitored, making them easily sank. And once enough ships sink near the landing area, it would be even harder for other ships to make it to the landing beaches.

vaccineai··on The U.S. needs a shipbuilding revolution
China reunifies Taiwan: 20%

1.) too much corruption within the military. also no real war experience for 40 years

2.) not enough oil to supply all the ships needed for invasion. look at how Russia's column of tanks failed in the early invasion of Ukraine.

3.) China is broke and you need money for a war against US and Japan.

4.) China imports most of its food and oil

5.) Taiwan has very advanced anti-ship missile systems, homegrown and from US. and once a ship is sunk near the landing, that then prevents other ship from landing, basically piling up ship corpses.

US responds militarily: 70%

1.) Marco Rubio's first day on the job was to meet with AUKUS, which shows how important Asia and first island chain is

2.) Trump has said he would bomb China if China had occupied Taiwan under his presidency

It will be similar to the space race between Soviet Union and US. And just like Soviet Union going broke and collapsing, China too will go even more broke and collapse.

Because China censors very common words and phrases such as "harmonized", "shameless", "lifelong", "river crabbed", "me too". This is because Chinese citizens uses puns and common phrases initially to get around censors.

China's oil reserve only lasts 80 days. In case of any conflict that disrupts oil import, China would be shutting down very quickly. Since you brought up crumble and starvation.

> They're in no rush at all.

China is dead broke and will shrink to 600M in population before 2100. State owned enterprises are eating up all the private enterprises. Meanwhile, Chinese rich leaves China by tens of thousands per year, and capital outflow increases every year.

> Once we've speedrunned our petro supply and exhausted our agricultural inputs with unfathomably inefficient protein production, China can sit back and watch us crumble under our own starvation.

China is the largest importer of crude oil in the world. China imports 59% of its oil consumptions, and 80% of food products. Meanwhile, US is fully self sufficient on both food and oil.

> They're playing the game on a scale of centuries

Is that why they are completely broke, having built enough ghost buildings that house entire population of France - 65 million vacant units? Is that why they are now isolated in geopolitics, having allied with Russia and pissed off all their neighbors and Europe?
