usermac··on The placeholder name for the Windows 8 experience was "modern"
A bit off-topic but I super enjoyed the UI on the Windows Phones at the time. Only topped by the WebOS from Palm even before it I recall.
usermac··on New Beam Spring Keyboards
I've been twice the past year to buy their keyboards in-person in Lexington Kentucky US. They treated me very well. I can say this much, the full-size keyboard has a slightly nicer feel to it than the 10-key-less version, the key travel that is.
usermac··on Antigravity 2.0 Tops the OpenSCAD Architectural 3D LLM Benchmark
I've been using LLM's to do my OpenSCAD work for over two years now. It's always where I start (and end).
usermac··on Killed by Apple
Macbook 12" was the best form factor computer ever.
usermac··on David Attenborough's 100th Birthday
Glad to hear. I thought all those videos recently of him were AI.
usermac··on Artemis II Photo Timeline
And in Hanks vid he mentioned it might become expensive to host on Vercel as I recall.
usermac··on 1-Bit Hokusai's "The Great Wave" (2023)
Having seen this image since inception, I never noticed Mt. Fuji in the background.
usermac··on LG UltraFine Evo 6K 32-inch Monitor Review
For an org I worked for not long ago, I had them buy many of the previous incarnations of this monitor. They all died of an internal power supply issue within a year each. Even the replacements I got died within a year.
usermac··on GitHub to Codeberg: my experience
I spent some time last week adding Forgejo/Git to my local NAS via docker and tailscale.
usermac··on UPS plane crashes near Louisville airport
Relative of mine is a real estate agent in the Louisville area. This year she sold two homes to two UPS pilots. One of them, his first day was yesterday. The day of the crash. He was bumped from that very flight.
usermac··on Apple Reveals ‘Lisa’, Its $50M Gamble (1983)
I recall Macs being AppleTalked together to move anything anywhere—it was magic.
usermac··on Introducing a new HTML element – welcome <clippy>
I read it—hilarious. Thanks. "move fast, break things" really got me.
usermac··on Screenshots from developers and Unix people taken in 2002 (2015)
I, for one, welcome our dark background.
usermac··on Apple’s $1000 monitor stand is a massive and unnecessary PR fail
With all the press, I'm thinking about just buying the stand, putting it on my desk... alone.
usermac··on macOS deprecating scripting language runtimes, including Python, Ruby, and Perl
And I have a 4+ year old Perl script I use daily. Yeah, yeah, I know I can install Perl myself but when I distribute it I was expecting it, Perl, to be there—never mind that it is an out-of-date version—I wrote it accordingly.
usermac··on I Grew Up Gifted, but My Life Didn’t Turn Out the Way I Expected
The first two lines, wow—You very clearly wrote what I've struggled to think of how to convey. Thank you.
usermac··on Microsoft Edge preview builds for macOS
I installed it an noticed they have their own App Store.
usermac··on Boeing Resisted Pilots’ Calls for Aggressive Steps on 737 Max
How do I find A220 and E190 flights just to see if I have them available to me?
usermac··on A napalm attack, an orphan, and a message three decades later
Two things... one personal and one technical. I was in that war. I was a silent conscientious objector (I thought the war was about oil and money.) I went because I had an obligation to go. I have many stories but the best one is this. When the war ended, we sold our portable hospital to the Kuwaitis. We went to Kuwait City to deliver it and saw the destruction; the six miles of death. When I jumped off the truck and the people, families rushed up to me(us) and kissed my cheek, bowed and kissed my feet—I could not make them stop. They would raise up and say in cryptic English "We thank The United States, President Bush and you." I was touched and changed—it changed my opinion of the cause. What if I was sent back home directly after the war? To this day I would have said what I thought before.

Technically, this website is well done. Just scroll down and down. It's a little long but I like some of it.

usermac··on IT Runs on Java 8
Now that you put it that way, I am a "dark" employee. ha ha
usermac··on IT Runs on Java 8
It's pretty sweet. I just fielded a full online order system and did it in 30 calendar days flat. It wins five-star reviews from my users and raving compliments.
usermac··on Ask HN: What was your experience starting a tech consultancy?
When you run out of work simply go visit an old client—not to ask for business, not to ask for anything, just a visit to see them. Within about two weeks, that client is calling me with a project to do. It is magic. I did this many times.
usermac··on IT Runs on Java 8
That was an enjoyable read. Just funny. Alright, I might not be a "dark" employee but we do run our shop on... FileMaker! Since 1993 as best I can tell.
usermac··on It's time to replace GIFs with AV1 video
While investigating if I could actually use this—animated PNG, I found this website and it convinced me it is the new direction I should take: http://littlesvr.ca/apng/gif_apng_webp.html
usermac··on We Can Do Better Than SQL
What is EdgeDB? It is new to me.
usermac··on Internet Explorer Browser Collection
Wow. Version 1 was August of 1995. I discovered the Internet in September.
usermac··on Open source collaborative text editors
Until last year and for two years I kept an Etherpad Lite to do shared text editing and it was amazing. It was in use for three years. The only reason I stopped using it was Google Docs, who bought the company or IP for Etherpad, can do the same thing and therefore I don't have to do the Linux maintenance. I even had it use SQlite as the database and it could handle as many as 30 simultaneous users without a hitch.
usermac··on Coffee Cups Are Next
They do here in the US too. If I forget, I just ask them for a "here" cup/mug and it seems to make it taste better too.
usermac··on Boeing’s Homicides Will Give Way to Safety Reforms if Flyers Organize
Read it and agree. I also want to ask if this model is on my flight. Do not want.
usermac··on Apple now repairing MacBook keyboards in store, promising next day turnaround
Wow, you've got me thinking the next keyboard before it's complete removal might be the one on the Atari 400. See it here: https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&id=74D98E13...
