LMAO, this is not normal anywhere else in Europe. Also, I bet she either has a lot of money saved up somewhere else, had her mortgage cosigned by someone else with a lot of income, etc. this is not normal at all.
I am not from Germany, but take Germany as an example: https://n26.com/en-eu/blog/cost-of-buying-a-house
"A good rule of thumb is to have at least 35% of the estimated cost. Germany: German residents can generally borrow up to 80% of the assessed property value, but non-residents usually get the short end of the stick. They have to put up 40–45% of the property value as down payment."

The average UK price house is 256k... https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/640/cpsprodpb/117DF/production...
You lucked out, arguably.
>My point is that yes - it's a global problem, but I honestly don't think everyone everywhere needs to save up for 7 years just to get a deposit. Maybe if you live in London you do, but elsewhere? Meh. Basic 3 bed houses are not so crazy expensive in most places, at least here in UK.
I make 12k after taxes and before other expenses... what are you talking about. And I am lucky not to pay rent with a terrible commute because I live with my parents.
It's a global problem, it doesn't matter where you go. People and companies have an absolute fetish with real state that makes young people like me give up with hope. What is work good for if you're just a slave to the system?
Right now, it'd take me 7 years of salary JUST to afford the initial down payment for a house. If we're talking about purchasing it out-right after basic expenses, 40 years. Is this normal? Well, in the fucked up we live in, yes!
Start working in your 20s, own your house in your 60s. Nice.
Remove the problem of earning money to achieve independent housing, remove 75% of the hussle for most people to participate in scams.
We're past that point since a long time ago.
I'm sure some YouTube channels could pull this off too.

If you do not wish to say anything, thanks anyway for your comment in that other thread, I have re-read it many times and I am genuinely thankful to you for making it.
2. Very responsive, searching for previous messages takes seconds.
3. I remember back in '17, most other VOIP and especially video calling services sucked. Discord made gaming with your non-techie friends with a crappy laptop plug & play.
4. Lack of censorship (at the beginning).
5. Good UI when it was released compared to its competitors.
6. Gaming Centered Nature back when that was not common and/or alternatives were complicated and clunky (TeamSpeak).
7. Very good integration of GIFs, meme emojis, and the like.
8. Old people do not use it.
However, sometimes in the middle of the month I have those very same moments of "nothing to do" and I have made the mistake of telling my manager, literally "nothing to do, give me work" while being anxious because THERE MUST BE SOMETHING TO DO. He's gotten mad at me several times.
Last time this happened, because I have made the mistake of telling him that several times, he called me on Teams to stop me from telling him that. He told me that I should never tell that to a boss, and also, consider that just like you said, those other people maybe are working very hard. He's told me that if I have nothing to do, to just enjoy myself, do some "janitorial" work, or talk to people, and that it's good to not be busy 24/7 with never ending deadlines.
I'm hybrid, so now when that has happens to me, I always just pop to a coworker's desk to chit chat or watch what they're doing and try to help.
Besides, it's one thing to Work from Home from a beautiful place vs. a middle of nowhere town. I don't see many people on Hacker News moving to Nebraska or the Sahara to Work From Home.
Housing sure is cheap in Korea, China, and Hong Kong!

I have given up on hope many times over, today I saw a self-text from 5 years ago of me questioning if I would ever make it, and so far, I have not. I have seen a psychologist for many years, a psychiatrist, and have asked people for help.
I have nobody to blame for all of this but myself and the consequence of my own actions and decisions. I have no hope for my own future, but I wish everyone the best, and for people to know that I am the example on what not to do in life, so that future generations do not become who I currently am.
Thank you, hope you have a productive and awesome 2023 though :)
