urbnspacecowboy··on Vibe coded browser ports of Halo, The Simpsons: Hit And Run, GTA work well
> Now the games industry will try it again for real

Will? It's already happening:

* Amazon Luna: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Luna

* Nvidia GeForce Now: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_Now

* Xbox Cloud Gaming: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_Cloud_Gaming

We keep having to learn this same lesson.

urbnspacecowboy··on Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court
Yes, and then children grow up and realize that how "other people" act on "other people's opinions" has real direct and indirect effects on their lives.
urbnspacecowboy··on Anthropic bans 'abusive or cruel behavior' towards Claude
> Anthropic states that these rules may be modified for “contracts with certain governmental customers … if, in Anthropic’s judgment, the contractual use restrictions and applicable safeguards are adequate to mitigate the potential harms.” The company has previously contracted with the US military.

So, you're still not safe from the spooks, but the spooks are safe from you. Thanks Anthropic!

urbnspacecowboy··on A font recreated from photographs of classic Commodore 64 keycaps
Good question! I've looked into this a bit myself and I think the best overall match is Akzidenz-Grotesk Condensed, albeit not exact: https://www.myfonts.com/products/condensed-regular-akzidenz-...

The G is different (look at the lower right corner), the 0 (zero) has a slash which looks custom, and the Q is very different (it looks like a letter O with a piece of another O added for the tail).

And yes, since it's the standard comment about fonts, this is a commercial font that costs an arm and a leg.

This "no, Virginia, they aren't pelicanmaxxing" article is what broodbucket is probably thinking of: https://dylancastillo.co/posts/pelicanmaxxing.html

In any case, pelicanmaxxing comments without any further proof or evidence probably fall under the "Please don't post shallow dismissals" guideline.

urbnspacecowboy··on Measure internet censorship
> old Twitter decided to censor a NYPost article

Again, which article, about what subject?

howunfortunate didn't answer, just deflected:

> Are there NYPost articles you feel people should be prevented from DMing? Or posting, for that matter?

qerghnui's reply was flagged to death:

> Why do you refuse to answer the question?

> The story you are referring to involved the New York Post or its affiliates breaking in to Hunter Biden's laptop (a felony) and publishing his personal correspondence, complete with unredacted phone numbers and email addresses. This violated Twitter's policies against doxxing and dissemination of hacked materials. Characterizing this as censorship is misleading; the story contained no newsworthy information and its publication violated longstanding Twitter policy. It's hard to imagine Twitter functioning without such a policy. I don't see any reason the New York Post should get away with violating it just because it claims to be a newspaper.

> The Wall Street Journal, a Murdoch rag like the Post and hardly known for its liberal bias, declined to publish this information, which is why it wound up in the disreputable Post instead. Respectable journalists have ethical standards. Act like thugs, get treated like thugs.

> P.S. Twitter is free to make whatever editorial decisions it pleases. Trying to make them publish something they don't want to publish is compelled speech. Compelling speech in the name of freedom of speech is hypocritical.

urbnspacecowboy··on Qwen Image 2.1

GPL is not a "use it however the fuck I want" license. Maybe you're thinking of the WTFPL?

If someone discovered AGI for real, they're going to broadcast it in a lot more places than one social media network. The AI revolution will not be tweeted.

Obvious follow-ups: How does the A/B test choose between A and B, and how can it be manipulated into choosing A instead of B (or vice versa)? It's software, it has to be deterministic at some level.

urbnspacecowboy··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
Is Xitter still doing the "Your account was suspended for reasons, now you gotta dox yourself" dance? (EDIT: Yes, according to debazel's reply) That'd be a reason why "You could make an X account" isn't a reasonable suggestion.

Really, does it matter? Lots of YouTube comments are zero-effort attempts to juice a video/channel's engagement metrics (aka "commenting for the algorithm"), and whether they're accomplices/sockpuppets, or just unimaginative parasocial parasites, is basically unknowable from the outside.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Pen_Register.jpg

then copied the full-size image's link... and sure enough. I guess they want to keep tabs on sites that hotlink their images and don't even practice good link hygiene.
