I think the question boils down to do you believe the employee is obligated to disclose the backup issue within the responsibility of the employment contract? I would say no, since the entire creation of the software was not within the responsibility of the contract, why would the documentation of the backup issue be within it?

I think the situation is analogous to the company giving the employee a big unwarranted pay raise, and then the employee lazily not doing more work, then the company firing the employee, but then arguing that at a minimum, the company has a reasonable professional courtesy to give the employee hours for their vacation days, even though it isn't specified within the contract.

Yeah this doesn't make sense to me either. If you assume the gas rights for all the land on the earth is priced that low (it isn't) you could buy all it for $1mm.

Also, I can't imagine the seller would be like "hmm, this guy wants to buy gas rights on 87,000 hectares of land for $1. Sounds like a good deal!" without thinking maybe there was something special and investigated for themselves first.

unwoundmouse··on Towards Fully Automated Manga Translation
I've been thinking about this problem for a little bit. I think an app idea that has potential is a sort of 'wikipedia for manga translation'. Essentially you have some automated translator do a first pass, create rough translations. This is served to customers. All the readers, then, have the ability to move around the overlayed speech bubbles and edit the text inside them. For the most part, automated translation seems to capture a lot of high level stuffs, and the large number of community participants can fill in the details/broken translations using context, and additionally do whatever cleaning needs to be done.

I was shocked by your "people remember 20% of what they read vs 80% of what they see" statistic. I followed chain of sources, which led to a broken hp page [1]. It looks like HP pulled this number out of their ass [2]. Making a claim without a source is one thing; making a claim with a false source is another. This sort of practice is very damaging to the authenticity of information on the internet.
