unraveller··on Man Cereal
with 2.5 grams of creatine monohydrate, 15 grams of whey protein isolate and 5 grams of carbs per serving.

Male trail runners already eat breakfast exactly like this on the trail they just have to prepare the concoction themselves from disparate ingredients to best preserve muscle and muscle function. Putting it together in a cereal "for men" is not just about being keto friendly (20g max carbs per day) it makes it simpler to choose your own carbs (sucrose goes direct to muscle) right for the muscular activity or recovery level ahead.

A century of stale big breakfast propaganda at this moment is easy to stir up. What's jarring here is not that "ballsy" tagline being used in more niche health food, it's that some random kid's random idea of masculinity should not be the first clear one to arrive in your son's head.

unraveller··on The decline of deviance
Weirdness itself is no personal virtue to be admired, there is already an epidemic of Quirk Chungus type personalities to avoid. This guy too offers an erratic yet safe gish gallop article blaming no one for the loss of our something.

Johnathan Bi explains [1] the stagnant output of deviant/contrarian creatives better as a lack of respect for artistic foundations after being influenced by the rabid 3rd or 4th generation in whatever artistic movement.

unraveller··on A Clausewitzian lens on modern urban warfare
Take a city. Take two.
unraveller··on Stop talking to technology executives like they have anything to say
>we expect to be misled for the purpose of entertainment, and rightly decry illusion in what is presented to us as documentation

Believe in unbiased documentation at your peril. When you desire a peek behind the curtain into random people's lives you are going to get taken for a ride everytime. That makes scrolling heavy on entertainment value and all users know it.

Social media algorithm scores are just a way for us to outsource easy reputation management, that puts a lot of hops in between you and authenticity and can't really be called a "shared reality" with a straight face. Perhaps now something better can come along that doesn't favor Image marksmen.

unraveller··on Cerebras Code
Some users who signed up for pro ($50 p.m.) are reporting further limitations than those advertised.

>While they advertise a 1,000-request limit, the actual daily constraint is a 7.5 million-token limit. [1]

Assumes an average of 7.5k/request whereas in their marketing videos they show API requests ballooning by ~24k per request. Still lower than the API price.

unraveller··on Ozzy Osbourne has died
The AI "voice-over clone" was more like default TTS David_British_1, the emotional video montage and text was what worked on people.

Ironically, the daughter's vlog [2] protesting the first fake "I'm dying" confession [1] helped the story gain traction, there was a second fake video of a random female voice claiming to be her [3] verifying the original story [1] which is probably what you saw.

The point is endless random autoplay is dupe central.

unraveller··on LLM Inevitabilism
I'm fighting for no health care in your home.
unraveller··on LLM Inevitabilism
It's more that big money going towards a clear and desirable endgame is a fairly sure thing. I choose to avoid lots of tech and I won't download the app but it's very hard to see how fighting a promising open tech like LLMs is the "pro-humanity" stance here.
unraveller··on OpenAI dropped the price of o3 by 80%
I have no moat and I must make these GPUs scream.
unraveller··on I'd rather read the prompt
You mean to tell me even anti-AI people are glazing my unseen prompts now! The solve for slop is easy for teachers and communicators alike: stop asking sorry questions and you stop getting sorry responses. Or stay the easy course, you will cede the game to discreet cheaters just to make honest people jump through antiquated hoops.
unraveller··on An Overwhelmingly Negative and Demoralizing Force
You work in the slop mines now.
unraveller··on ChatGPT is turning everything into Studio Ghibli art
A woman was left kind of unsatisfied by internet memes, don't ghiblify her pain.
unraveller··on Trump's attacks on universities get darker, with shadows reaching our shores
What is a Culture War?
unraveller··on Asking good questions is harder than giving great answers
Hence why an algorithm can never create a better and better version of itself in perpetuity.
unraveller··on Show HN: Font Pair – I was wasting hours choosing fonts, so I built this

unraveller··on "Wait, not like that": Free and open access in the age of generative AI
All products made from access to the commons do eventually get back into the commons to benefit all. Thank Mickey Mouse if it's not fast enough for you.

There's no cause to siphon all profit from this particular newcomer medium because it derives some benefit here and there.

unraveller··on "Wait, not like that": Free and open access in the age of generative AI
Why does wikipedia have to exist forever any more than encyclopedia Britannica? Both are gatekeeping knowledge behind editors, let the LLM creator decide what things are valuable after ingesting everything. You can contribute to LLMs this way.

People can pay a tiny bit extra for source attribution at present so there is no short-term issue.

unraveller··on A new test for AI consciousness – beyond the Turing Test
That measures human ability to feign surprise at bad setups. If imposed constraints can be ignored they weren't constraints, port-scanning for missed vulns means just that.
unraveller··on Preparing for the Intelligence Explosion
Humans do warfare, nicely spotted. This century's tech progress isn't a pre-crime to be punished by a one world government chaining everyone to their pod.

There is this one theologically laden thought experiment doing the rounds where humans get weaker and stupider and more guilty by the minute.

unraveller··on Why Understanding the Human Brain Is Key to Unlocking AI's Future
How do you know you are at 0% consciousness and not at unattainable?
unraveller··on Show HN: Sonauto API – Generative music for developers
The movie Electric Dreams is now the most prescient '80s movie about gen AI so far; An architect builds an approximation engine on his home PC which then ingests the whole internet/TV and learns to compose music for the cute girl next door who plays the cello. Song mis-attribution is the central theme. The hit song from the movie Together In Electric Dreams is actually from the perspective of the gen AI choosing to self-destruct as a final show of his love. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDV-_q-iaK8

I bring it up only to provide a bit of balance to the soulless slop debate, proving creators can have diverging opinions on what is good in music creation and life—they don't all feel threatened by poor substitutes no one can possibly enjoy.

You know that post card they sent you is not actually a photoshop-free picture taken by them. They just addressed it to, you should totally dump them from your life.
unraveller··on Show HN: Sonauto API – Generative music for developers
It won't be detriment to consumers who ultimately decide the value. If I could AI gen a better tasting cocacola for cheaper that would be beneficial to consumers and coke wouldn't deserve a cut. Get gud, as they say.
unraveller··on Show HN: Sonauto API – Generative music for developers
Anyone with ears can find music satisfying. You don't need an artist's backstory or blessing for that. By all means use slow AI to get the same point fast AI can get to, but don't ask me to value it differently.
unraveller··on Repairable Flatpack Toaster
it's not just aesthetic, you don't want to encourage misuse with a large flat top surface to place things on.
unraveller··on Crossing the uncanny valley of conversational voice
That first 15 minutes is the best with miles trying to understand the situation, just waffling after that.
unraveller··on Crossing the uncanny valley of conversational voice
Congrats, you invented hollywood style AGI in the eyes of many.

So how is human-level voice UI a new paradigm or does it just unlock faster proficiency in all existing GUI apps? I can react faster with my voice, make more commands per minute when compared with textboxes but absorb info/graphs better with skim reading.

unraveller··on We Built AI Agents That Replace Outsourcing Firms (Live with 25 Companies)
A general task mimicking model would not be trusted for edge cases or hallucinations just yet.
unraveller··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
Unfortunately both WSJ and The Hill call their ~10 minute argument edit the "full video" on YT and most people won't see the full exchange.

The first thing Trump says in the official stream is that they've had their negotiation spats before and are stronger for it.

unraveller··on Brian May: "Nobody will be able to afford to make music" under UK AI copyright
So video cards killed the instrument player. Musicians won't go extinct though, it's just the market value of back catalogues and discographies going to zero without government intervention.

Still, Gen AI won't stop being effective at instant style transfer because of "Don't train on me" laws. The knock on benefits of AI related upstarts in UK will be lost however.
