unparagoned··on Ask HN: 36 months of unemployment and depression. How to go back?
Well actually many studies show that exercise is as good or if not more effective then drugs at treating depression.
unparagoned··on Ask HN: 36 months of unemployment and depression. How to go back?
Yep, you need to do all that for your brain to function properly.

Many studies show exercise is as good if not better than drugs at treating depression.

unparagoned··on Oregon decriminalized hard drugs – early results aren’t encouraging
From what I’ve heard is that they will just trash the place and be back on the streets in no time.

Housing doesn’t fix mental health and drug addiction problems.

unparagoned··on Reading SEC filings using LLMs
How exactly do you do that. Are you passing the raw HTML, or just the extracted text?

But you are going to have to specify your question in way more detail to get a good response. If you just ask it a question you are going to get some crappy responses that don’t even attempt to answer your question.
unparagoned··on Ozempic drug supresses desire to smoke, drink and more?
People usually gain back that weight much quicker. All it could take is one bad month and you could gain it all back.
unparagoned··on Once an Addict, Always an Addict?
I used to like that video but it hasn’t aged well. The whole opioid epidemic showed how you can make addicts out of lots of people through getting them physically addicted.
unparagoned··on GitHub Copilot is ‘unacceptable and unjust,’ says Free Software Foundation
Knowing why and understanding how or why a machine learning algorithm did something is a much harder or just impossible.
unparagoned··on Why women gymnasts compete to music in their floor routines but men don't
I thought that when it came to chess men do dominate as well. So it would make sense to also have a women’s category. Do any of your examples have women in general as competitive as men and still having their own category.
unparagoned··on Has the lead-crime hypothesis been debunked?
Well scientists don’t just rely on them. They would use them as just part of the puzzle. Do we known the mechanism, can we do causal animal experiments and then is there a correlation in humans.

unparagoned··on Pfizer backs down over ‘unreasonable’ terms in South Africa vaccine deal
Well Americans always explain why they pay more for drugs is that they subsidise the rest of the world(drug companies). One could say the US economy is based around the people(government) giving money(subsidising) to the rich(drug companies). So the terms may not seem unreasonable in the us but are in other countries. Since the condition is effectively the government covering the risk rather than the drug company paying for insurance like they should in a market economy

When people wonder how others can get stuck in their own echo chamber, remember this post. They didn't read the article, misinterpreted the stats, and just ignored the results since it didn't conform to their preconceptions.

The analogy is fine for explaining entanglement. Sure it's more complicated when you consider superposition.

If someone votes against their own interest then you might say it's wrong. You could also say that if someone voted for bexit for reason x, but brevity doesn't actually deliver x, then that might be wrong

unparagoned··on Psilocybin repairs 'brains cells damaged by depression' in mice: study
We co-evolved with plants, many of the healthy chemical parts in plants were once evolved to be poisons or deterrents. Also the common biological base means that one plant creates dopamine and serotonin.
unparagoned··on How to Love Animals in a Human-Shaped World
When it comes to the "healthy bias", i just do what healthy people do as long as it's kinda supported by science. Even if we don't have the evidence yet it's still worth looking to see which was the science is poining

Do you have any evidence that we only use edible parts of the plant? I'm fairly sure that there are crops that are solely grown to feed animals.
unparagoned··on Comment moderators should focus more on hate speech than profanity, study says
I would have said that profanity is fairly low on the offensive scale, and hate speech is on a completely different level. The number impacted is not really relevant.
unparagoned··on Can *YOU* blow a PC speaker using only a Linux kernel driver?
A speaker is a simple component that needs to be driven properly. What you are suggesting is combining the driver with the speaker bit. It's better to keep them separate. If you tried to integrate some protection to the actual speaker, then there is no way to do that without significant costs or sacrificing sound quality. Anything you do add in would probably fail at a greater chance than the chance of someone blowing the speaker
unparagoned··on Ivermectin for Prevention and Treatment of Covid-19 Infection
There is a "risk" that bill Gates is actually an alien and has been putting microchips into the vaccine.

Pretty much all risks are identified within a short period, it's very rare for there to be long term risks. So yes there may be some theoretical long term risk, but it's soo small that it is misleading to talk about it as a serious risk. Expecially compared to the real and known dangers of Ivermectin and covid.

unparagoned··on Ivermectin for Prevention and Treatment of Covid-19 Infection
Drug commercials are bad, and banned in pretty much every developed country. Anyway those drugs have been proven to work, this drug hasn't been proven to work.
unparagoned··on Ivermectin for Prevention and Treatment of Covid-19 Infection
No-one. Since doctors don't go to YouTube to find out what to do. Until there is solid evidence for a drug noone should be going to YouTube to decide what to do, expecially when we have many proven low risks vaccines.
unparagoned··on Ivermectin for Prevention and Treatment of Covid-19 Infection
Bret implied he got it from a potentially dodgy source. He was also pointing out "risks" with the vaccine. Even in comments you had people saying they were going to avoid the vaccine and take this drug instead.
unparagoned··on Can *YOU* blow a PC speaker using only a Linux kernel driver?
It's just the way things are when it comes to speakers. What you are suggesting would be really expensive, unreliable and have all sorts of downsides. It's like asking how comes cars get stuck in traffic, why don't they just make cars fly when the roads are busy...
unparagoned··on “YouTube is shutting down dissenting Biology PhDs and MDs”
The bits I watched were just full on conspiracy type comments about how even the manufacturer is only saying the drug doesn't work due to various conspiracy reasons. I recommend people to watch it to see how much of a crank bret is and how its clearly dangerous conspiracy nonsense being spouted
unparagoned··on LSD and psilocybin increase the fractal dimension of brain activity
There is lots of potential benefits that far outweigh any downsides,so it's worth investigating. They were made illegal for political reasons rather than for scientific or evidence based reasons
