ungamed··on Chafa: Terminal Graphics for the 21st Century
In the article, the author goes over exactly this.
ungamed··on Apple can terminate developer account without a reason by mistake
You'd think so, but you'd be wrong.
ungamed··on Breaking the silence around academic bullying
I think you're missing the point.

Red Hat and (Maybe apple still) have engineering teams in Australia.
ungamed··on Porsche boss faces software woes keeping VW a step behind Tesla
Never buy Euro cars in Australia, they spend more time in the shop, the parts cost more and you'll spend a month at least waiting for the part.

They are simply not made for the conditions here.

ungamed··on Resolving an unusual WiFi issue
If you can crash dns this way, please report it, its worthwhile fixing.
ungamed··on Fully Dockerized Linux kernel debugging environment
I dont think I can do it without crash, just too many things can go wrong.
ungamed··on What are you supposed to do with old clothes?
How long do they last for you, (and what brands) since i'm currently hunting for something solution.
ungamed··on What are you supposed to do with old clothes?
What kinda garbage are you buying ?
ungamed··on What are you supposed to do with old clothes?
I'm sure i'll be downvoted for this, but I think that this was solved for men many generations ago with the implementation of the a uniform, uniform.

We're not in a time in history where this is considered an acceptable solution for women, as we (species) are all about expressing individuality.

ungamed··on What are you supposed to do with old clothes?
That is an epic pun.
ungamed··on MIT researchers uncover ‘unpatchable’ flaw in Apple M1 chips
Does the m1 even have microcode ?
ungamed··on MIT researchers uncover ‘unpatchable’ flaw in Apple M1 chips
This was just to expose the gadget easier, there are other gadgets in kernel that you can abuse too.

The full fix will require a complete recompile of the full kernel/toolchain, if they can do any kind of microcode update (I have not checked) that allows for mitigation.

ungamed··on MIT researchers uncover ‘unpatchable’ flaw in Apple M1 chips
100% chance.

> - Ability to install a custom kext to make the PACMAN Gadget work. The exploit requires access to undocumented registers on the M1 that are apparently not accessible from user space, but this is a bit unclear.

^ This is not the case, you can trigger these from userspace in valid syscalls. The same behaviour was in spectre.

ungamed··on What FreeBSD can offer compared to other operating systems (2020)
I find that shell scripts feel like the hack compared to systemd startup scripts.

> Can you tell my how many steps (and which ones are required) to rebuild CentOS or Ubuntu for example without Bluetooth support?

Why would you when you can just disable the kernel module, then nothing bluetooth works. Why rebuild ?

ungamed··on So I took a corporation to arbitration
Can you use it with the phone you're talking on ?
ungamed··on Australian digital driving licenses can be defaced in minutes
Can confirm they did NOT validate me during early voting.

> I am having trouble getting a read on their intention with the aesthetics here.

HN users is not the target audience. It is not intended to be dissected and pulled apart for analysis and profit. Sometimes things are because they were.

ungamed··on Plundervolt (2019)
Title is fixed now, but it gave me a bit of a shock when I read this today.
ungamed··on Old C code – how to upgrade it?
My concern with the current setup is that I am in GMT+10 timezone. This means that some 'livestream' events are not able to be viewed due to work or life commitsments. I will keep an eye on this topic though.
ungamed··on Never hose out a Honda Element
I'd love to see the studies supporting this evidence, however I imagine if it exists its locked up behind proprietary doors.
ungamed··on SUSE Linux Enterprise Opens Its Development Model to the Public
CentOS is not a rolling release. CentOS stream and has effectively 'switched places' with RHEL. It will get patches first, then RHEL will inherit them.

The only visible difference I can see, is that embargoed bug fixes will hit RHEL first before CentOS stream.

This apparently is very difficult for people to understand.

> Don't just do a cost analysis, do a cost/benefit analysis.

This is exactly why I have reached the conclusion that I have. The extras are not a considerable enough benefit in situations that I find myself in. Doing industrial work doesn't lead to the benefit of the extras.

It may be that those of us see this don't overvalue optional extras that have significantly less practical value than the marketing suggests.

ungamed··on I want to give Oracle money but I can't
Especially as one is a 'once off' use, the other is billing on demand.
ungamed··on Old C code – how to upgrade it?
Livestream preferred for me, twitch/yt. no skype here.
ungamed··on Accused of cheating, marathon runner Frank Meza's life fell apart (2019)
Ah cool, so we're not drawing lines.

If you really practice this in life, you're going to be taken advantage of.

You're right, discussing it is just stupid. My mistake.

ungamed··on Ask HN: Any weird tips for weight loss?
I think you might mean bodyfat.

> it has effectively no bearing on weight in the general population (non-athletes).

Cmon man, strength / muscle building -absolutely- has an effect on "weight" and "bodyfat". Even when not at the athlete level. Muscle at rest burns more calories than fat at rest, and those burned calories gotta come from somewhere.
