undebuggable··on Backups Aren't Simple
From iPhone into local machine through LocalSend or AirDrop, then your usual favorite backup pipeline.
undebuggable··on Were Touch Bar's problems software rather than hardware?
That era started with Window 8 when Microsoft wanted the same UI and UX on laptops and tablets. Amalgamation of physical keys with touch screens. Apple's Touch Bar was somehow a symptom or even culmination of it. It's over and let's forget it ever existed.

Automotive seems to have its Windows 8 moment right now.

undebuggable··on Mushroom behind 'tiny people' hallucinations identified
Ancient Greeks were finding skulls of dwarf elephants during masonry works and quarrying in Sicily.
undebuggable··on Mushroom behind 'tiny people' hallucinations identified
Most of weird European and Middle Eastern legends and fairy tales originate from drugs or encountering real artifacts or phenomenons which they couldn't explain. Look up how cyclops appeared in mythology.
undebuggable··on Windows 11's built-in Weather app wastes more than 1 GB of RAM
An app which could have been a website.
undebuggable··on Why did we wait so long for the bicycle? (2019)
> The physics is non-trivial and, based on the drawings, offsetting the center of the wheel from the axis of thw wheel being turned was not a thing.

There is whole physics around it and even legal regulations [1].

[1] - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle_and_motorcycle_geometr...

Looking at the state of stomatology and medicine back then early velocipedes and bicycles were indeed mad. I wouldn't get on any of it earlier that sometime 1910s, once the safety bicycle was somehow perfected.

undebuggable··on Philae's extraordinary comet landing relived (2024)
Year 2014 and we can't even get a color photo from a comet.
undebuggable··on How JPL keeps the 13-year-old Curiosity rover doing science
It worked out. Philae lander with harpoons was comparably complex but mostly failed unfortunately.
undebuggable··on Lies we tell ourselves about email addresses
I have the same with my email address. There seriously exist people out there who think that if they start to give away everywhere an email address, this email address will become theirs. Then there are many service providers and institutions who don't verify an email but simply start sending stuff to it.
undebuggable··on What is the purpose of the lost+found folder in Linux and Unix? (2014)
lost+found is the Thumbs.db and .DS_Store of Linux
undebuggable··on SPEAKE(a)R: Turn Speakers to Microphones for Fun and Profit [pdf] (2017)
Ah so that's why they're going it! In front of TV I always feel like the dumbest person around.
undebuggable··on SPEAKE(a)R: Turn Speakers to Microphones for Fun and Profit [pdf] (2017)
That's all true. As a kid I was watching with sister a children's show in TV. The actor on the screen asked a question followed by silence. My sister yelled the answer at the TV, then the actor said something like "you're right kid". I was flabbergasted.
undebuggable··on Consider the Greenland Shark (2020)
I heard he is still there at 20 meters banging a pair of rocks together.
undebuggable··on The road signs that teach travellers about France
> In France who has the right of way? The car that is already in the roundabout or the car entering the roundabout?

Actually it's pretty consistent all across Europe. Almost everywhere, every entrance to the roundabout has the yield sign [1]. Without the yield sign, every incoming traffic is right hand traffic and those already on the roundabout have to give a way.

Now the trick is that yield signs at the entrance are so common that drivers assume they are always there.

undebuggable··on I found a vulnerability. they found a lawyer
> the portal used incrementing numeric user IDs

> every account was provisioned with a static default password

Hehehe. I failed countless job interviews for mistakes much less serious than that. Yet someone gets the job while making worse mistakes, and there are plenty of such systems on production handling real people's data.

undebuggable··on Why does aluminum foil have one shiny side and one with a matte finish?
Shiny side is for wrapping the end of banana, the matte for the other end.
undebuggable··on I want to wash my car. The car wash is 50 meters away. Should I walk or drive?
Now ask the question of all questions "how many car washes are in the entire country?".
undebuggable··on If you put Apple icons in reverse it looks like someone getting good at design
There was more meeting time and salary budget involved in picking the yellow-red gradient inside a pen from the first icon on the left, that in the entire process of creating and releasing the icon first from the right.

undebuggable··on Aerocart cargo gliders
I use my cargo gliders only for full scale landing operations.
undebuggable··on I’ve removed Disqus. It was making my blog worse
Without comments it's much simpler and cheaper than a $5 VPS and a random CMS, with comments it's much complicated and expensive than a $5 VPS and a random CMS.
undebuggable··on The graduate 'jobpocalypse': Where have all the entry-level jobs gone? [video]
There are three career stages. First you're not qualified enough, then for a moment you're overqualified, and at last you're too old. The last stage occurs few decades before statutory retirement age.
undebuggable··on Why I gave the world wide web away for free
The web was truly a hyper idea!
undebuggable··on Models of European metro stations
I was never able to build mental model of Alexanderplatz in Berlin. Most of the times was simply following the signs and yup, the layout is complicated.
undebuggable··on Using Claude Code to modernize a 25-year-old kernel driver
Imagine the horror when a random stranger finally installs and sets up that bloody printer on your laptop.
