ulfw··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
My Finder now opens every folder scrolled to about 2/3 of the way down instead of all the way on the bottom or top. I end up scrollign 20-30 pages long each time I want to do anything. Yay macOS27!

Meanwhile haven't found an actual new feature yet

God heavens. It's worse than 2000/2001!

Gotta start selling my portfolio

ulfw··on google.com/goto: Google's anti-scraping update
Well one has to look a level up and ask who the people are who hire such people and why
ulfw··on Google will buy half the electricity from one of Finland's nuclear power plants
What a huge waste for humanity
ulfw··on I spent $220 on Google app ads and 60% of the installs were robots
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of actual end customers/humans (i.e. not bot farms or paid for actors) who click are not clicking on purpose. I've seen so many bad Android apps that have performance issues where content is still rendering and by the time you've tapped on where you go an add banner/link loaded up and registered you clicking on that. Zero purchase ever done but numerous 'ad clicks' generated

I get that but the sheer ridiculousness of a total non-feature (moving the torch/flashlight icon from the left to the right, which takes 2 seconds to "develop") selling as some kind of accomplishment is bad enough. Telling me this will allow me to "celebrate my picture" was so stupid I couldn't even bother listening to the rest of the sales pitch

Don't charge me 2000-3800$ and insult my intelligence with stuff like this

ulfw··on iPhone Duo
Huge outside the US where people live in small places and use public transport rather than living in mansions with big TVs and be in a car (no phone use) all day.
ulfw··on iPhone Duo
Then they'd be seriously dumb people to buy an otherwise inferior (too thick, too heavy, bad cameras, small screen) device for $2000 to just use that outer screen alone
ulfw··on iPhone Duo
It was even more American over the top Marketing which really doesn't work well in the rest of world.

We laughed out loud when they claimed "the controls on the side let you celebrate your pictures on your lockscreen more"

Yea it's nice we can put whatever picture on a phone's lockscreen. It really is. Every phone does that.

Not once have I CELEBRATED my picture tho.

Open a bottle of champagne anyone?

ulfw··on Initial effects of AI technology on employment look positive
There are no job openings. The ones you see are fake.

I've applied to the same FAANG opening in Sydney 3x over the last 1.5 years. It's not a real job as apparently they're not eager to fill it for years.

ulfw··on Initial effects of AI technology on employment look positive
This is the biggest bullshit lie ever

I haven't had a job in 4 years. Well okay I am an old piece of shit of 49 yrs old with a Stanford degree. So obsolete for this new AI world of imaginary bullshits. So I deserve it

ulfw··on Commodore 64 released September 1, 1982
No never. Booted it up. Didn't know what to do with it. Had zero software for it. Let it go. That was pre-internet obviously and no one I knew ever used CPM
ulfw··on Commodore 64 released September 1, 1982
I had a C16 as my first computer followed by a C128. But for the latter the majority of time was spent in C64 mode. So I basically had a C64 in a nicer casing. Lovely times
ulfw··on GrapheneOS says Pixel 11 has MTE support after all

ulfw··on Google Maps Renames Lake Ontario to Lake America
And yet Google decided to have the whole planet (except Canada) see Lake America. The sucking up to Trump knows no bounds with Google and Apple (who will again follow suit as they did with Gulf of America)

"those outside of the U.S. and Canada will see both names"

ulfw··on Google Maps Renames Lake Ontario to Lake America
None of that GNIS US shit explains why people in the free world have to read "those outside of the U.S. and Canada will see both names"
ulfw··on Doctors are finally learning to manage antidepressant withdrawal
A GP nowadays is a triage person and nothing more. Sadly. My old school GP back in the day was a proper doctor. My current one is a really really nice guy who knows less about anything than I do. I literally tell him what to prescribe me and he doesn't know what it is. Whenever I have some issue he never diagnoses it but sends me off to radiology because those doctors will come up with a diagnosis for him. He then might treat if simple or more likely triage me to see a specialist.

I kind of find it cute to be able to be paid for this. I could do it easily and better but I would have to spend years studying medicine, which at 50 is not an option anymore

(this is just to my modern GP's job. I could definitely today NOT do my old proper full-on-doctor GP's job)

ulfw··on Moderna reports first positive Phase 3 for mRNA neoantigen therapy in melanoma
I don't like words like "revolutionized" as they set wrong expectations.

For non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (such as pembrolizumab, nivolumab, or atezolizumab), median overall survival typically ranges from about 10 to 20 months in advanced stages as opposed to 10-12 months for standard chemotherapy treatments.

That's great news especially as they would likely be better tolerated. Bt let's please not call living a handful of months longer as a 'revolution'.
