udkl··on Reallocating $100/Month Claude Code Spend to Zed and OpenRouter
QoL features is where WebStorm shines! I don't look forward to when I have to open vscode instead sometimes.

Just the floating and ephemeral "Search in files" modal in Jetbrain IDEs would convince me to switch from any other IDE.

udkl··on Scaling HNSWs
Two resources that helped me understand HNSWs: https://blog.wilsonl.in/graph-vector-search/ https://github.com/brtholomy/hnsw
udkl··on OpenAI Needs $400B In The Next 12 Months
As a reference for anyone interested - the cost is estimated to be $10 billion for EACH 500MW data center - this includes the cost of the chips and the data center infra.

A consequence of tools like Sora and Google Flow is that there will be an increase in amateurs creating professional quality content for comparatively cheap. So a thousand such shows (probably many more) isn't in the realm of the impossible!

udkl··on Amazon fined $2.5B for using deceptive methods to sign up consumers for Prime
Try the PayPal Debit card if you are in the US (and I think UK) .... you choose the category each month for a 5% cashback.

they don't do anything special for frozen items .... it's just as if you get it in bags from the store. .... add in additional time for neighborhood deliveries if any ..... usually they arrive semi-frozen .... you can track the delivery driver from the store (where they hopefully keep it in a cold room) to your home... for me it takes them from 20 mins to 1 hour for delivery ...

For good or for bad, I've switched to Walmart for many of my orders as well as home delivery of groceries now and then and they have been decent. It's good to have competitors who are catching up.
udkl··on OpenAI and Nvidia announce partnership to deploy 10GW of Nvidia systems
$10 billion is small change compare to the estimated all-inclusive cost of $10 billion for EACH 500MW data center ... $200 billion for 10GW.
udkl··on OpenAI and Nvidia announce partnership to deploy 10GW of Nvidia systems
It looks like NVDIA looking to move up the value chain to have a stake in the even higher margin/addressable market instead of simply selling the tools.
udkl··on OpenAI and Nvidia announce partnership to deploy 10GW of Nvidia systems
For another sense of scale: A 500MW AI-centric datacenter could cost $10 billion or more to build. So 10GW is $200 billion!

udkl··on Things I learned from 5 years at Vercel
This is a good writeup, but the VP learnings/mistakes (#3, 4 and 5) honestly felt pretty amateur mistakes for any leadership position ... even for just a junior managerial role. It's a good thing they were able to learn on the job, but the team could have used a more seasoned leader - or the author could have had more pre-training/coaching.
udkl··on The death of partying in the USA
The concept of playdates is amusing to me as an immigrant. In Indian cities where most people live in apartments, the kids just go down and play around with the 10s of kids from the neighborhood. Adults get free time and kids get to socialize and enjoy.
udkl··on Cinematography of "Andor"
Yes, I am the same. I enjoyed the entire S2 even though I left S1 after 1 or 2 episodes.

S2 has great, great acting and characters along-with good pacing since they apparently jammed in at-least 2 seasons into a single season. It starts out strong too.

S2 shows the larger republic and it's politics and factions. This gives you a broader galactic context of what's going on. This enamored me and got me to go back and re-watch the first 6 movies. I originally watched them as a teen and was lost at the time. Really started to appreciate the setting and story now.

I need to go back and watch the remainder of S1 though since they say it gets better later.

> The Beauty of Modeling Everything as Events - hen you model work as events, powerful patterns emerge

Wouldn't you say these patterns aren't unique to event based systems since functional composition can also lead to these patterns? For eg: see the Streams API in Java

========= - Where would push event systems make sense over pull based systems?

udkl··on 'It's a money game to them':son takes on UnitedHealth over elderly father's care
Universal health care isn't the only alternative. The fault is in the way private healthcare is structured in the US. Countries like Thailand and India have fully functioning and affordable private healthcare.
