udfalkso··on Calibrate Before You Accelerate: Bias Toward Action in a New Role
Who cares!
udfalkso··on Drivers are so used to speeding many ignore posted limits, study finds
Also, water is wet.
udfalkso··on Show HN: Minute – Offline meeting notes on macOS with Whisper and llama.cpp
This looks really nice! Gonna try it out. Thanks
udfalkso··on Show HN: Anypost – transactional and broadcast email API, 8¢ per 1k
Ok nevermind, it showed up, but took longer than I expected.
udfalkso··on Show HN: Anypost – transactional and broadcast email API, 8¢ per 1k
I was excited to sign up for this. But, I never got your verification email, so I can't sign up. That should be your bread and butter.
udfalkso··on The bottleneck might be the air in the room
This. I have mine set to run the fan 15 min every hour. Circulates air nicely.
udfalkso··on Ask HN: What GUI/desktop app do you use to keep track of different AI sessions?
Iterm2 with a bunch of named tabs
udfalkso··on I let AI build a tool to help me figure out what was waking me up at night
They don’t block much more noise but they’re much more comfortable
udfalkso··on OpenAI should build Slack
Teams suffers from one giant problem. There is a totally odd, but understandable from tech debt perspective, segregation between “chats” and “teams” which makes it practically impossible to find everything. It’s a fatal flaw. Slack is beautifully simple and effective in comparison. Also, the reminder feature on slack is extremely useful to me personally and I miss it dearly in teams.
udfalkso··on The Napoleon Technique: Postponing things to increase productivity
“Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it's a day you've had everything to do and you've done it.”

Margaret Thatcher

(To which a clever friend of mine retorted: Because you know you can do nothing the next day)

udfalkso··on Maybe the default settings are too high
When I was meditating regularly I found this easier to do. I had the presence of mind to notice I was rushing and slow down and focus on the details. I need to start meditating again.
udfalkso··on RAG accuracy jumped from 10% to 60% when I added outcome scoring
It’s not pushy at all imo
udfalkso··on Ask HN: How can I get better at using AI for programming?
Same thing happens every time a new hire joins the team. Lots of documentation is stale and needs updating as they onboard.
udfalkso··on Inflatable Space Stations
And Seveneves
udfalkso··on Tell HN: Azure outage
OpenAI Clip python library fails because the model download is a hardcoded azure cdn url :(
udfalkso··on Scientists are learning why ultra-processed foods are bad
100% this. There is a wonderful book called The Dorito Effect that goes into this in more detail.
udfalkso··on Ask HN: What brought back the joy of programming for you?
Learning Elixir and Phoenix and getting the hang of functional programming. What a pleasure.
udfalkso··on Ask HN: Doom and Gloom but financial markets doing well?
I’m currently reading Broken Money by Lyn Alden and it has given me a much improved perspective about why things like this are the way they are as a consequence of history and monetary policy. Very interesting.
udfalkso··on Ask HN: What browser are you using?
Spaces I suppose. Very easy, clean work/personal separation. That and the bookmark/tab conflation thing they're doing is actually kind of nice once you get used to it. Oh, and sync'ing cross device is nice as well.

I don't use any of the easel or boost stuff. I'd prefer if they stop working such silly things and focus on bringing their mobile app up to par but seems like they'll get there.

udfalkso··on Ask HN: What browser are you using?
I tried Arc a few months back and quickly decided to give it a go as a primary browser. It’s quite nice.
udfalkso··on Wearing an eye mask during sleep improves episodic learning and alertness
Clicking this link changed my Amazon app location to UK and I can’t figure out how to change it back! Thx for the recc though.
udfalkso··on Microsoft Edge is leaking the sites you visit to Bing
Yea
udfalkso··on Microsoft Edge is leaking the sites you visit to Bing
The part I like lost about the peek feature is when it happens elsewhere in the OS. I click a link in outlook or iMessage and I pops up right there in context without jumping all the way to my browser. ESP nice for unsubscribe links in emails.
udfalkso··on Ask HN: Easiest and cheapest full-stack frameworks that you love?
Speak for yourself? I personally find I’m much more productive with elixir/phoenix and the end result is much more performant. (I say this having built multiple large projects with rails in the past)
udfalkso··on Ask HN: Easiest and cheapest full-stack frameworks that you love?
Elixir/Phoenix is wonderful. Worth a look.
udfalkso··on Ask HN: Easiest and cheapest full-stack frameworks that you love?
It’s def a solid option esp. if you’re very familiar with it already.

But, I think Elixir/Phoenix beats it handily at this point for someone starting from scratch with either one or that is willing to spend a week or two learning something new.

udfalkso··on Tamagui 1.0 – Cross-platform React apps in less time, with better performance
Can I use styled components with Tamagui?
udfalkso··on Ask HN: Which mailing lists would you recommend to subscribe to?
podcastnotes.org has a popular weekly mailer that summarizes interesting ideas from recent podcast episodes. (Disclaimer: I'm the tech guy at PN)
udfalkso··on It's normal to play the same song over and over again (2016)
A song stuck in my head can make me restless all night as well.

One fix I’ve found that often works for me is listening to instrumental jazz every night before bed. It’s variable/random enough that it knocks the stuck song out of my mind without replacing it with another. Search for “jazz for sleep” playlists, there are a few decent ones out there.

udfalkso··on Felt
Very nice map!

What seems to be missing from Felt is some interactivity to make this map useful. I can’t tap on a route to see it’s length it get it to open in google maps for routing. I can’t tap on a pin to get its address or get directions to it.

It’s just a zoom able picture, which isn’t a big payoff for all the effort needed to build the map.
