u320··on LK-99: The live online race for a room-temperature superconductor
Increased for 2, decreased for 1.
u320··on HBM’s Future: Necessary but Expensive
PowerVR was making and shipping tile based accelerators for desktop way back in the 3dfx days.
u320··on Germany Falls into Recession
They wouldn't cut rates anyway, with inflation at 7.2%.
u320··on Westinghouse AP300 Small Module Reactor
The so far most successful SMR, BWRX-300, is also that size, and also a scaled down version of a long lineage of reactors. They are shooting for the same price target as well. So they are just going where the market is going.
u320··on Update: The Swedish authorities answered our protocol request
I don't see how that makes any sense at all. Nothing happened in this case that the Swedish police couldn't do themselves without any international requests.
u320··on Fakespot Is Acquired by Mozilla
In my experience, it will only reliably tell you what country you are in.
u320··on CATL has announced a new “condensed” battery with 500 Wh/kg
You can do better than that if you use the waste heat from thermal plants. Both for hydrogen production and co2 capture.
u320··on Mullvad VPN was subject to a search warrant – customer data not compromised
Yes, in the sense that they are both admissible in court. This is Sweden, not USA.
u320··on Diverging Diamond Interchange
For those kind of roundabouts you add signals to the pedestrian crossing. Although above a certain size tunnels or bridges becomes justifiable, but then we are pretty far from urban environments.
u320··on Diverging Diamond Interchange
Yeah slowing down cars "naturally" by using narrower roads and roundabouts, and then built lots of non-signalled pedestrian crossings (sometimes with bumps) have been a trend for some time. The data seems to support it works.
u320··on Diverging Diamond Interchange
You can have traffic signals for pedestrians even if there is a roundabout for cars.
u320··on Diverging Diamond Interchange
So you are complaining about the lack of traffic signals, not the roundabout.
u320··on Spotify is trying to silence former employees in severance contracts
And it never ends well.
u320··on Effing-mad, an effect library for Rust
If Rust had algebraic effects, your example would be:

  fn foo<T,E>(closure: impl FnMut(&T) -> bool | E) -> Option<T> | E
All that's needed syntax-wise would be a way to attach one or more type parameters to a function type. (I used "|" here but it could be anything)
u320··on Effing-mad, an effect library for Rust
I don't think anyone would describe their proposal as a limited version of algebraic effects. It's missing the algebraic part for one thing.
u320··on Effing-mad, an effect library for Rust
I agree but Rust is extremely unlikely to go in this direction, even though it is a pretty good fit.
u320··on The F-15 Eagle: Origins and Development, 1964-1972 [pdf]
"F-35 is bad" is just an internet meme with little to support it.
u320··on Making Steel with Electricity
Yes it gets more expensive.
u320··on Plane Lands/Takes Off in Only 20 Feet (2013)
It does and the top story has 4 likes and 1 comment.
u320··on Plane Lands/Takes Off in Only 20 Feet (2013)
You still need airflow over the wings to turn it up to allow the propeller to produce lift. Unless you are flying a V-22 Osprey
u320··on UK backs Rolls-Royce project to build a nuclear reactor on the moon
But Rolls Royce is a nuclear company, Pratt and Whitney is not.
u320··on Nuclear power plant leaked 1.5M litres of radioactive water in Minnesota
It's worth adding too that the US for some reason has insanely low thresholds. Orders of magnitude lower than most other developed countries.
u320··on Nuclear power plant leaked 1.5M litres of radioactive water in Minnesota
So your attitude to misinformation is that we should just give up, and act as if it's true? Should we stop doing vaccinations too, just because some people believe they contain 5G chips?
u320··on Nuclear power plant leaked 1.5M litres of radioactive water in Minnesota
Light water plants doesn't even produce much tritium to begin with, so it's hard to imagine this would pose any danger.
u320··on Zed, the new code editor from Atom developers, has entered open beta
It doesn't feel native on MacOS either, and wouldn't look any more out of place on Windows or Linux.
u320··on Zed, the new code editor from Atom developers, has entered open beta
Yes this is for stuff you upload to their "service" whatever that is. It has nothing to do with the editor itself.
u320··on Overhead of Returning Optional Values in Java and Rust (2021)
> Rust's philosophy is to be a super powerful tool, language complexity be damned.

This is not Rust's philosophy at all.

u320··on Twitter was down
The fun part is that the CEO is on Twitter as this happens, arguing about COVID.
u320··on US-Japan team hails H2-boron plasma fusion breakthrough
Helium-3 can be made on earth by fusing deuterium nuclei. Which is a lot easier than fusing Helium-3 nuclei, so if you can do the latter the former is probably a lot easier than going to the moon.
u320··on Europe's largest deposit of rare earth metals discovered in Sweden
Yes but the parliament can change the law however they see fit, to exempt this mine from environmental law. This has already happened twice in the last few years (cement production and hydro power).
