u124556··on Show HN: We open-sourced our anime discovery application
Do they really need the code to clone the UI? I'd be more worried about the suggestion system.
u124556··on Ask HN: What ever happened with the TrueCrypt shutdown?
Who is going to complain if someone uses TrueCrypt's name? Can anonymous people retain copy rights over their work?
u124556··on Cross-platform Rust Rewrite of the GNU Coreutils
(psss, they were just trying to be funny)
u124556··on Cross-platform Rust Rewrite of the GNU Coreutils
So if I replace coreutils with this on my Linux box, I won't have to call it GNU+Linux anymore?
u124556··on Cross-platform Rust Rewrite of the GNU Coreutils
I guess there's no problem if people just use them together and obtain the results without redistributing both together.
u124556··on Storj – Blockchain-based decentralized storage network
With all these blockchain based permanent storage service the question that always comes to me is: What happens when someone uploads Cheese Pizza? What about copyrighted content?
u124556··on Tell HN: The site was offline. What changed?
Or you could, you know, use a more popular language.
u124556··on Firebug 2.0
Are you on a mac? I just tried and the close button is on the right.
u124556··on Python 3 is killing Python
Mostly, what you need to become a "Python 3 expert" is learning the Python 2 __future__ module. Use it for a while, then the switch will be seamless, intuition-wise.
u124556··on Python 3 is killing Python
What popular third party libraries don't have a port and don't have one planned for the next 5 years python 2 will be around?
u124556··on My No-Soap, No-Shampoo, Bacteria-Rich Hygiene Experiment
I wonder if it is that BO is really gone or is it just that you don't notice it anymore.
u124556··on Show HN: Where Adblock+ injects 20K CSS rules, HTTPSB injects one
I think the point is they can port the code back to ABP so it can benefit from it. It's not a competition.
u124556··on Gitchain: Decentralized P2P Git Repos aka "Git meets Bitcoin"
I don't think it's meant to replace the status quo but to add a way to keep repositories that the status quo would refuse to host themselves.
u124556··on Why Van Halen's tour contract had a "no brown M&M's" clause
He wants them to care.
u124556··on DRM and the Challenge of Serving Users
At least as feasible as a feature-compatible flash replacement.
u124556··on Panda: a tool for hackers and designers
Whenever I see a panel on the left of some main content I expect it to do something to that content.

Perhaps the problem is that the Dribble side feels like the main content for the page. I mean, you can even hide the left panel to let the "main content" take over the whole screen!

u124556··on Amazon granted patent for taking photos against a white background
But what if the patent itself is a slight variation of a more general and public notpatent?
u124556··on Amazon granted patent for taking photos against a white background
Why nobody is showing concerns about her to the USPTO? Do US Government agencies have any politics about the general public concerned with the work of the individuals working there?

What about other examiners?

u124556··on Google Music natively on Linux
I don't think streaming can beat having the actual files on disk (and owning them). Specially if you like listening to high quality flac instead of lossy compressed music.
u124556··on We'd lose our security certificate if we allowed pasting
But those are both public
u124556··on Ask HN: AdSense alternatives?
Your Digital Ocean link doesn't work, the double // after the domain seems to be the problem.
u124556··on Poll: Were you banned by AdSense? When in the cycle were you notified?
So what's a good alternative to AdSense?
u124556··on Click – Python library for command-line interfaces
The command decorator is nice, but the group decorator feels wrong, why create a function that does nothing just to decorate it? I'd rather use `cli = click.Group()`.
u124556··on C++ – From goto to std::transform
`result = [i * i for i in v]` looks much more readable to me.

What if you need to square every other element? copy_if and transform then don't look so pretty anymore. `result = [i * i for i in v if i % 2 == 0]` is still more readable.

What if you need to do something else and you don't know if there is a transform like function for it?
