tyohn··on Smashing the Clock (BestBuy's "location and hours do not matter" work style and an increase in productivity it caused)
Performance based management - about time. I hate the constraints of a 9-5 job. What is the use of forcing me to work till 5 even though the only thing I've been doing is sitting on my ass reading online news? If the works not there how about you let me go home. Stop assigning me busy work - why do we have to be "busy" all the time? And if there is a large amount of work I'd be happy to work late nights to get it done. And if I can get my job done from home, the wild, Starbucks or where ever why does it matter - where I am?

tyohn··on Why online advertising sucks, and is a bubble
Maybe its time for Google and others to step up and verify that the online advertising they are selling is being used for the correct purpose. ~ Which in turn will increase the price of the advertising which might have the effect of creating a even better solution ~ would "bait and switchers" be willing to pay "a lot" of money to run a bait and switch ad? Or maybe Google could add "Google Verified" to ad words to insure "clickers" that they were getting what expected to get...
tyohn··on The 'Trophy Kids' Go to Work
They said the same thing when the "X generation" was entering the workforce. They even had HR videos about how bad we where going to be...
tyohn··on Semantic Web: Making Advertising More Relevant to Consumers
I'm not saying that I don't like the idea of web 3.0 but where's the reality? While its nice to believe that we'll all create APIs that will "talk" to each others APIs - currently we can't even agree on which programming language is the "best" much less the which data format should be used. I guess if we could get a standard set like the appliance industry does with electricity (120 Volts, 60 Hz, 3, 2-3 prong plug) then it might happen. I'm not even going to touch on the invasion of privacy...
tyohn··on Ask HN: Review our site, ListBite (social classifieds)
I think you should narrow your focus. Didn't craigslist start out with just one area? Why do you call it social classifieds? Is there a social network tied in somehow?

The "Solved Bugs" link doesn't go anywhere?
tyohn··on [dead]
I just emailed them :)

I really like the design, very sleek! I wish this would have been around when I was working for the IT department of a school division in VA.
tyohn··on Ask HN: Review our app, Muspy (new album notification service)
The concept is fine but I find the design a little drab. In my opinion this is an "entertainment" based site and you mentioned possibly selling music... you need to jazz it up, give it some pop - create a vibrant color scheme - then I think people will feel more in-tune with your site.
tyohn··on Ask YC: What are you working on these days?
I think I like that idea. Now just add in a kick-ass reputation fixer module and you're set :)
tyohn··on Rate My Startup - Dawdle.com Is A "Moronically Easy" Online Marketplace For Gamers
I'm not sure why but on my computer I can hardly read any of the text? I guess my machine is missing the font you used?
tyohn··on Details of Clickjacking Attack Revealed With Online Spying Demo
Yeah but how many clicks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop?
tyohn··on The Seed of Apple's Innovation
"Because the purpose of business is to create a customer, the business enterprise has two--and only two--basic functions: marketing and innovation. Marketing and innovation produce results; all the rest are costs. - Peter Drucker. As Steve seems to points out - Apple lost site of one of those while he wasn't there now they have it back.
tyohn··on Aesthetics Send A Message
I love great design but in the case of "tools" if the design doesn't help the function and the productivity of the user - and there is something else out there cheaper that does (even though its "ugly") I have to go with productivity.
tyohn··on Aesthetics Send A Message
I have to wonder do the aesthetics of your MAC make you as a programmer more effective?
tyohn··on Shoestring Budget? Starting to feel growth issues on your back-end? Embrace unix and C
What's interesting about this posting is unbenost to my co-founder, yesterday I was discussing some of the issues we were facing with a "retired" unix programmer and he talked about early sorting and searching methods. It was quite remarkable what they achieved with very little in the way of hardware and memory.
tyohn··on Learn everything about a website
Cool site... I liked looking up my site :)
tyohn··on Y Combinator Challenge #8 - Dating
I've got it, lets create a virtual experience dating site. That way you never have to meet the person - you can just do things together from a distance ;)
tyohn··on We've been working really hard on our startup and now this
Well, I guess I don't get out enough :)

But I remember reading something about Adobe opening up the .SWF format but we were already crawling and indexing when I read about it.

tyohn··on We've been working really hard on our startup and now this
"If you aren't growing organically (and FAST), you need to very critically ask yourself why."

Thank you for your thoughts. You could be completely correct for all I know. I don't mind serving a very niche community. But as far as organic growth we haven't released the site other then on YC today :)

tyohn··on We've been working really hard on our startup and now this

tyohn··on We've been working really hard on our startup and now this
Sure, we'd be very interested.
tyohn··on We've been working really hard on our startup and now this
And we are in process of a re-design. I have to wonder if I should keep working on it...

tyohn··on Ask YC: The Carrot or the Stick?
I think I'd start by watching the startup school video http://www.omnisio.com/startupschool08/david-heinemeier-hans...
tyohn··on Ask YC: Can you provide Feedback on my customizable homepage start-up?
Hi Mark, I added my email to the about section in my YC profile. Feel free to email me.
tyohn··on Ask YC: Can you provide Feedback on my customizable homepage start-up?
Good point but I'm playing with another concept at the moment. When I can I just like to lend a hand to other startups - I was thinking the people I know might like the ClutterMe site.
