Despite best efforts, even among the largest lines (Maersk + others via DCSA), EDI still reigns supreme in this space. Nothing inherently wrong with EDI itself but there are plenty problems with access. Port & terminal level visibility are in an even worse place.

When I had some downtime a year or so ago, it was really interesting to revisit the reverse-engineered clients (a la RuneBot, PowerBot, etc) and taking a look at how that was done then and now. Actually made me somewhat working with Java again.
Very cool to see other folks who found themselves on a similar path thanks to that community!
I did, however, hear from a Dasher who was more than happy to clue me in on the policy[0]. From now on, I no longer tip inside the app and let the Dasher know I'll be tipping them in cash at the door. It's a pain for me, but I feel better knowing 100% of my tip actually went to them like it was supposed to.

If nothing else, I think it creates a sense of security in that they'll be able to still use it if they lose their controller or their phone dies.
I spent some time working for a company that builds imaging satellites. My role was working on the UI team, building real-time telemetry monitoring and alerting software using web technologies for ground control. It was definitely one of the more interesting places I've worked at.
The transition to AWS was completed a little over a year ago and took several years to do.[0]

Once he left they probably felt like they had a team that could contribute to Hapi core themselves if needed, and had no desire to sponsor continued work on the project other than having employees spend time on features/fixes they required. I could be way off -- just a guess at their reasoning.
