tylerag··on Nearly 20% Adults May Have Misophonia – Significant Negative Responses to Sounds
I did. The police officer told me that he himself drove a loud sports car, and his neighbors complained to him about it, and we just need to get used to it since it's part of driving a sports car.

Needless to say, I was not writing a letter of my compliments to his supervisor.

tylerag··on Nearly 20% Adults May Have Misophonia – Significant Negative Responses to Sounds
After getting a lovely neighbor with a straight piped Dodge Challenger, I completely understand the statement "it’s about feeling trapped or helpless when you can’t get away from these sounds."

Also, if you have a straight piped Dodge Challenger, I assure you your neighbors hate you.

tylerag··on Tesla's next-gen electric motors will get rid of rare earth elements
The other problem in house wiring is that when you tighten down the screw to attach the aluminum wire to the terminal, the aluminum work hardens, and expansion/contraction/vibration will cause it to break.
tylerag··on The Surprisingly Scientific Roots of Monkey Bars
I'm genuinely curious, how common were lifelong injuries from unsafe playgrounds? I'm 32, and even the structures I had as a kid are now gone. And those were tame compared to what my parents had. Yet I can't think of anyone that had serious injuries from them. In comparison, I know multiple people that have lifelong injuries they will never fully recover from drunk driving.

In possibly related news, Bezo's $500 million yacht just set sail.
tylerag··on American drivers have a blinding headlight problem
I've heard anecdotally to just get super bright headlights on your own vehicle. That way your eyes are already adjusted to the brightness. I don't know what to if you have a conscience, though.

It's actually not terrible.

tylerag··on Batch Box Rocket Stove: Ergonomic, Efficient Wood Combustion
Is this the same as a rocket mass heater? Appears to be a somewhat different design, but same physics. A rocket mass heater is going to have the burner box outside of the bell.
tylerag··on The ThinkPad TrackPoint tried to build a better mouse (2020)
Just realized that the trackpoint on my laptop is completely worn smooth. I've been using Thinkpads for 25 years, I doubt I could switch to anything else. First thing I do when getting a new laptop is to unplug the ribbon cable going to the touchpad. Can't accidently enable it when it's unplugged!
tylerag··on NYPD can use more than 15,000 cameras to track people using facial recognition
Or just use AI to detect faces (without recognizing them), and store the high resolution faces for later processing.
tylerag··on Metal 3D Printing – Dan Gelbart
If you have any interest in mechanical engineering or manufacturing technology, I strongly recommend you check out his whole YouTube channel. In particular, I recommend his history of scientific instruments. Extremely intelligent and knowledgeable person.
tylerag··on “Fun disabled by administrator” (2015)
Fun fact: this is a common technique when dealing with children.

> No, you can't leave the table until you eat your vegetables.

> No, you can't go play until your chores are done.

tylerag··on South Park Creators Land $20M in Funding for Their Deepfake VFX Studio
I remember being a little kid and my parents telling me that the tabloids at the grocery store were fake. Elvis isn't alive and aliens aren't visiting earth. Similarly, I've been thinking that we need to educate people to be skeptical about deep fakes. The best way to do this would be to have a deep fake of someone famous saying or doing something ludicrous. So over the top that it is obviously fake. I'm pretty sure Matt Stone and Trey Parker would be the best to do this.
tylerag··on You can no longer post a link to Mastodon on Twitter
Mastadon is a decentralized social media platform, so a competitor to Twitter. It has nothing to do with the location of Musk's jet.
